Damn now situation is pumped up for everyone... New ball Pujara gone and Pant attacking Cummins and Hazelwood. T-20 feelings taking over here, I hope people stop saying that Test cricket is dying.

Last hour, Last 15 overs and series is still alive. 80% -20% India

Aussie need only couple of wickets then they could fancy their chance.

69 runs needed only.... IPL mode?

Indian fans, fingers crossed please  Grin

I think Pant will wait for until there are like 5-6 overs remaining so that there is no risk of losing the match and then he will unleash the IPL mode. We still have three pure batsmen to bat and Mohammad Siraj we have seen can swing his bat in the air too. So even if the tailenders could play 5-6 balls each chances are we won't lose the match. i think Mayank Aggarwal's wicket was too important if he would have stayed until now India could have tried for a sure shot win until now. I don't know how much trust will India lay on Thakur and Sundar but I see a clear series victory for India.

Another 69 runs needed, with a minimum of 15 overs remaining. I can see the Australian bowlers getting more defensive. The target is perfectly achievable for India, but they should be careful not to lose any wickets. Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins are bowling very economically, so the Indian batsmen may be looking to target the other two bowlers (Hazlewood and Starc). I have a feeling that Rishabh Pant may be able to give India a win here.

Consistency is lacking with Starc, and this is not a new phenomenon. I have noticed this ever since the Ashes series of 2019. At least in this match, he is proving to be a massive handicap for the Australians.

The reason why I am backing Starc is that he has delivered a lot of times when Australia needed him. Right now he is not consistent or giving of performance as expected but everyone come through that face. With Starc I feel it is not that bad. Plus another reason is that there isn't a proper name that pops out when we talk about replacement of Starc for whatever period.

Looks like this match is also headed for a draw. Till Shubham Hill was batting I felt that India had a chance of reaching the target of 328 but now it seems they would like to keep their wicket and play till the day ends. Do not know what will happen at the later stages of the match.

I believe that still there is a good chance of a win, for either Australia or India. A maximum of 37 overs remain in this match, and India needs another 145 runs to win. That is still less than 4 runs per over. On the other hand, Cummins/Hazlewood/Lyon seems to be in very good form and therefore Australia would also try hard for a win. As long as Rishabh Pant is there, I have my hopes. And the last thing I want is another rain interruption.

Their goal in this match is to hold the wicket and draw. If they bat now to win the match then I think we will see their batting disaster again. They will lose wickets very quickly, and in the end, they may lose the match. So, they will not take any risk now. They will play slowly and hold the wicket until the end of the day.

He is a good bowler and helps his side a lot in ODI and Test matches. Yeah he is struggling in later test matches in this series but I think he got off with decent start , I mean taking wickets in first two Tests. I think Australian team is still gonna trust him since he is the spearhead on whom his team relies on usually. He is the one often leading the pace. And I still think Langer will still be trusting him in next matches. I would have agreed with you if the bowler wasn't delivering a good line and length and wasn't taking wickets for quite some matches (not 1-2  matches is what I mean since it is Test)

And btw he is quite a batsman as well. He recently in Sheffield Shield was so close to century until his captain declared the side. Tongue .

And once again, Mitchell Starc is proving to be the weak link in the Australian bowling lineup. I would like him to be dropped for the next series.

His dismissal broke my heart lol he deserved that maiden 100. Talented batsman, him hitting Strac out of the park was treat to watch and surely shot of the day so far. On the other hand happy for Lyon, poor guy having bad time on his 100 test.

It was lovely innings from Gill. He is so young and facing against those deliveries is really crazy. I am sure by the end of the day, lot of cricket players and fans will be heaping praises.

196 in 50 overs looks achievable but we shouldn't treat Test format as ODI. Sometimes it could work but very tricky majority of times due to various reasons. Bowlers run hard and focus on bouncers, bodyshots with 2-3 slips, short leg etc. One mistake and you are gone, not to mention long spell and pitch. 4 runs per over is possible only if every opposition bowlers bowling shit all day long.

Yeah... It is really close.. it could end either way. Lot of tactics putting into places to get those wickets could change this situation quickly. It is getting interesting in this last stage.

Last stage, Last test and crucial match...what are the chances of that.. huh Border-Gavaskar series is as amazing as Ashes isn't it :p (I know Ashes is just way better but still this series and young guns blazing for Indians has really packed some high quality entertainment for us.)

Pujara should do what he does best and Gill should continue with the counter attack.

Shubman Gill

Ugh!! And he is out... It was working so well. I mean Pujara and Gill. Still we have Pant and Agarwal but right now Rahane is come onto crease after Gill's dismissal. I think it still could work for India. India need 196 in 50 overs so that's almost 4 rq. run rate and pretty much achievable... isn't it? Just one need to play with a bit of pace just like Gill was doing.

I still recall India win was @8x odds on SB which I also took in my Multi and one of the legs has already lost. Tongue

Less than 50 overs remaining, and India still having 8 wickets in hand. All the three outcomes are possible even now - win for either of the two sides, or a draw. No signs of rain as of yet, and I am hopeful that today there will not be any rain interruptions. And once again, Mitchell Starc is proving to be the weak link in the Australian bowling lineup. Sending Sharadul Thakur or Washington Sundar and risk loosing a wicket is not the brightest idea, If India needs to win the openers has to score big and you need to contain the wickets as well. Rohit Sharma should anchor the innings and then Pant should be promoted to increase the run rate and if both these players looses their wicket then India should defend and it is not that easy.

Promoting Pant may not be a bad idea. But I am not sure whether there will be any rain interruptions for today. 62 overs remain in the next two sessions and if there is no rain interruption, then this should be enough for India to score the remaining runs. Less than 4 runs per over is needed from now onwards. But at the same time, they can't afford to lose wickets.
I think India is playing for draw and trying to retain Border- Gavaskar trophy and rightly so. When you are aiming to score 3.5 runs per over on last day then you are bound to lose wickets. Even Australia was playing safe when they lost quick wickets and really wanted to cross 300 runs lead.

Pujara should do what he does best and Gill should continue with the counter attack.

I was thinking if India could do a switch over tomorrow. It's understandable that 328 is a considerable huge target on such an uneven pitch. But I think if India has to win tomorrow they can do something out of the box. Like sending Rishab Pant and Sharadul thakur or Washington Sundar on 1 down and 2nd down. This will be a try by both of them to score some quick runs. If India can score something around 150 Runs until lunch. They can bat the remaining test pretty easily on the shoulders of Rahane, Pujara and Mayank Aggarwal who will have to play the role Hanuma Vihari and Ashwin played in the previous match. If the top order collapses India should look for a draw and if it doesn't India can look for a win.
This all is very good on papers but in practical its make no sense because its a test match we have fifth day with pitch is already uneven really tough job they must have to do some good in first two session mean save wickets then they can go for something in last session but if they can afford otherwise its already win for India they have to manage last all day on pitch with patience.
I think this isn't that bad in practical. I feel it would have been someone strong like MSD he would have done this for sure. Rahane might not because he would then be seen as the culprit for the series loss. But I think for winning you have to take the risk of losing the match. I think even fans would appreciate this stance if he takes this risk. Out of the box thinking is all that you need for winning matches in these complex situations.

Obviously openers have to play their part we cannot deny this fact. Shubhman Gill has to prove his worth in the team and Rohit Sharma needs to realise that he is the anchor for the team just like it's an One day match. But Like the first innings Sharadul was pretty good with his shots it wasn't like they were just lucky enough to hit those shots. So I think it can be a good experiment.

Sri Lanka was completely shattered in the first innings but returned to form in the second innings. The openers did not play well in the first innings but they played well enough in the second innings. Lahiru Thirimanne is still unbeaten, he has scored 76 runs off 189 balls. Great innings. But Kushal Mendis is out of form in both innings. I want to see a century from Lahiru Thirimanne tomorrow

Don't even remind me how fucking shit SL played in 1st inning, it was look like they were not playing test match but T20 and playing very risky shot even without settling.

Seems they understood their mistakes and learnt a lot from their first innings and as a result played well in second innings and made 359 as against 135 in first innings. Though England massive score of 421 in first innings have put them in driver’s seat and though they lost 3 wickets for just 38 in second innings still they only now require 36 runs to win the match. Sri Lanka would realize that though they played well in second innings and bowled well in second innings but each session for them is very important and losing couple of session initially in the test match can actually cost them the test match even if they play well in the end.

I was impressed to watch Sri Lanka's last innings. They batted great in the last innings. Lahiru Thirimanne has scored a great century and Angelo Mathews has played very well. He scored 71 runs off 219 balls. Lasith Embuldeniya and Dilruwan Perera have balled just great. Hopefully, Sri Lanka will be able to hold on to their great performance in the next Test.

This is where the problem occurs. They did play marvellous in second innings as compared to first, but they currently do not have consistency. In past few test matches which have seen they no doubt lack experience but they never showed a persistence in the matches that they are ready to stand on wicket for long hours, try to get settle first and play a long innings. This is missing in major SL players and this is causing them a big problem.
