Doesn't look like Derek Carr is going to help me out with the passing yards though.

You are almost halfway with Carr's passing yards, boy did the Raiders needed that last-min TD to stay in the game. Huge throw by Carr and a nice catch by Jones.

J. Mixon Score anytime could be problematic for your parlay, Bengals stopped twice in the Redzone, good luck though.

Raiders are lucky to be just one score down with all the penalties and silly mistakes up to the final drive of the 2nd Q.

Yeah, that TD pass padded his stats.  I almost took the under, but I figured he'll be playing catchup all day.  Last time he played the Bengals he threw for about 216 IIRC.  I figured he'd be good for a few more in a playoff game.  Which is why I figured he's good for one interception as well.

Burrow's longest completion 35+ yards, and Bengals to win

Chase 28, Uzomah 29  Cry Grin

Still another half to go, so plenty of time.  They've got the ball first, and so far they're playing the clock.  That'll set up a big downfield play sooner or later.

Snacks and beer have been secured for the super wild card weekend. Cheers, Joe Judge.  Grin

Lol, good for him.  No use crying over spilled milk.

Anyways, i don't see the Raiders making it past this round despite the fact that there are a lot of bets coming their way to cover the 6/6.5 half-points. I don't want to get involved with spreads, which is why i have Burrow's longest completion 35+ yards, and Bengals to win @2.23, i could also see Higgins having a big game with a TD and some big yard plays.

Those are good picks, sounds like a safe bet as longs as Chase is on the field.  I took a different approach and threw caution to the wind:

  • Player stats - D. Carr 1+ Pass interceptions (Game)
  • Game event - 1+ Fumbles lost (Game)
  • Total points - Over 43.5 (Game)
  • Player stats - D. Carr over 249.5 Passing yds (Game)
  • Player stats - J. Burrow 2+ Passing TDs thrown (Game)
  • Player TDs - J. Mixon Score anytime (Game)
  • Money line - Bengals (Game)
Odds 11.70

Doesn't look like Derek Carr is going to help me out with the passing yards though.

I will try to enjoy the fantasy football offseason because the 17-18 week long grind was too much for me in the end. I'm simply gonna sit back, relax, and enjoy some terrific football without getting worked up about lineups, fpoints, or anything.

I tend to agree with you that the Niners are being overly hyped in the media at the moment, (...)

They surely are unfortunately. The odds at Betfair are 1.65 - 2.52 in favour of Dallas and that is just the general home advantage in sports (60/40). What plays into this is the from ChiBitCTy mentioned inconsistency especially from the Cowboys offense. If both teams play their best, Dallas will win. But while we know what we can expect or will get from the 49ers, we don't know what Dallas team will show up and this is priced in. The dilemma with value betting - you think a team will win, but odds are too low.

Despite me thinking that SF will advance, the value is likely on Dallas, because the odds reflect a so and so playing Cowboys offense. But that is no given, they could also light up the scoreboard with ease; you never know with them. If there was a guarantee that their offense would click throughout the playoffs, then they would even be my pick for the Championship Shocked

That being said, the markets expect a KC vs GB Superbowl:

Titans are way too low imo, can't see them beating KC and probably GB back to back, even if Henry comes back in good shape. Same goes for the Bills, if they even manage to get past NE.

Hey there, good to see you around.  Happy new year.

Thanks, Happy New Year Smiley

Honestly should anyone be betting against the bucs and Brady?  I've bet against him plenty of times and gotten burned.  That is really good odds on them I might actually take that.  They should annihilate the eagles tonight and then it's a stones throw to the superbowl.  I do want to see a rematch of last year's nfc championship in Lambeau.  Come on football gods make it so.

Hey there, good to see you around.  Happy new year.

Those are pretty darn good picks and actually reflect my pre-planning for the 49ers potential opponents, lol.  Based on your picks next weekend would look like this, with my picks in bold:

AFC: (as if I care)
Cincinnati @ Kansas City: Revenge of the Chiefs.
New England @ Tennessee: The Jedi master spanks the padawan once again.

NFC:
San Francisco @ Green Bay: My heart wants just one thing that my brain refuses to grant; hope.
Los Angeles @ Tampa Bay: Stafford loves to end games with interceptions.

Although, if by some miracle the Niners move past the Cowboys and the Packers, the road to the super bowl is going through Tampa Bay.

49ers vs Cowboys - This is a tougher one but I'll take the Cowboys.  They are inconsistent as hell, but that offense is very high powered.  The Niners are overrated in my opinion.   Spread is Dallas -3, I think they cover.

I tend to agree with you that the Niners are being overly hyped in the media at the moment, but I think the Cowboys offense is also overrated.  To be honest, I'm 50/50 on this game.  My prediction is that the Niners defense will shutdown the run, forcing them to rely on Prescott's arm.  Our front 7 should be able to pressure Prescott into a few costly mistakes that will help our offense stay in the game.

What better way to end a post than with some hope?

My answers in red below...

Saturday, January 15, 2022

Raiders vs Bengals - I like the Bengals here.  Big win against KC headed in to the playoffs with some nice momentum.  Burrow and Chase are on fire! Spread is -5...I think they cover.

Patriots vs Bills - I'll take the Bills here.  I think the Patriots are the most overrated team in the league.   Spread is Buffalo -4, I think they win by 3 pts.

Sunday, January 16, 2022

Eagles vs Buccaneers - Despite not having Godwin and now Antonio Brown, I still very much like the Bucs.  The eagles suck, surprised they were able to slip in.  Spread is -8.5 tampa, I say they fail to over

49ers vs Cowboys - This is a tougher one but I'll take the Cowboys.  They are inconsistent as hell, but that offense is very high powered.  The Niners are overrated in my opinion.  Spread is Dallas -3, I think they cover.

Steelers vs Chiefs - Chiefs all day here.  Steelers got beyond lucky backing their way in to this one.  KC is -12.5, I think they fail to cover.

Monday, January 17, 2022

Cardinals vs Rams - Great matchups, taking the Rams here.  They are on a roll and are primed for great things these playoffs.  They could easily be your Super Bowl Winner Rams are at -4 spread, I say they cover.

Would anyone care to take a guess what the win / loss results will be?

As a non-betting person I would pick all home teams to win. They are all favourites to win their games and rightfully so. Now as a betting person, I think there is some value in going against some of them.

Raiders vs Bengals
I think the odds for the Raiders (3.00) are a bit too high, but just a bit and probably not worth it to jump on them pre-match, because the value is low-ish. If the Bengals take the lead with a TD, then I would probably play the Raiders for 4.50-ish inplay and/or the HC.

Patriots vs Bills
Here I will definitely bet on the Patriots ML, because this is close to 50/50 for me. Pats are a bit in a slump after looking one of the best teams mid-season - that being said, I expect them to be fully ready for this one. Bills didn't convince me the whole season and Allen is not doing very good in the forecasted weather conditions:

Source: https://twitter.com/MatthewFairburn/status/1480924110419079168

Eagles vs Buccaneers
Can't see the Eagles advancing to next round. Bucs have the #3 rush defense and I have strong doubts that Hurts can beat them with his arm Roll Eyes Wouldn't bet on the Bucs for these odds either though, this is probably fairly priced.

49ers vs Cowboys
The game I am most looking forward to and the 49ers will win this ! But the odds are really meh, was hoping for 3+. Dallas is kind of poor at home for their standards and when their defense isn't able to create turnovers, they are screwed because they can't 100% rely on their offense to click. They have been struggling quite often offensively - which is surprising when having probably the best offense just on paper - and the 49ers defense will be able to shut them down enough.

Steelers vs Chiefs
Even 1.15 for the Chiefs looks maybe good here. This is just about how much of a pounding KC wants to put on PIT and Big Ben in his last game.

Cardinals vs Rams
Odds are ok and Rams will win. But not because they are so good, but because the Cardinals are so poor. The early season Cardinals would easily eliminate these Rams, but the injuries to Watt/Hopkins really changed it all for them. JJ will likely make his comeback, but the team is in too much of a disarray nowadays. So the Rams get a lucky break here, but they will lose next round then to whomever they face. Despite having all those star players, they don't convince me at all and it all starts with Matthews, who just is no Brady/Rogers/Mahomes/younameit and never will be, regardless of how much money you throw at him.

That game last night was the best finish to a season I've ever seen.  The amount of 4th and longs that the Chargers completed to tie the game up and in overtime! Lol.  I mean a 4th and 21 with 2 seconds to go in the game and they hit that.  Only to have their coach swipe the game from them.  I don't care what anyone says the Raiders were going to lay it down and kneel saying they didn't want to risk a long field goal.  Once they got the first down after the timeout it was a wrap.  Just glad I'm not a charger fan right now.  (Being a giant fan my hopium wore off in October 😀
I agree, it was bizarre the head coach called a time out there, it was completely unnecessary for the Raiders to try to get the first down or to kick a long field goal, but now some are defending the decision saying the Raiders would have gone for it anyway in an attempt to avoid the Chiefs.

No way the Raiders were going to take a knee, and that's why Staley took that time out.  He waited until he saw the offensive formation on that 3rd and 4 play.  Carr was in the shotgun formation with Jacobs on his right, two wide outs and Renfrow in motion.  Another thing I'm certain of (and Staley probably was too) is that they weren't gonna throw it, 99% that was going to be a run play and the defense wasn't set for a run play.  If nothing else, he took that time out to get his defense in the mindset for a run.

For the Raiders it was a no-brainer; they had the ball and they needed that first down to remain in control.

Would anyone care to take a guess what the win / loss results will be?

Anything can happen on any given Sunday, and your guess is as good as mine.  I will likely put a small wager on each of the two biggest underdogs (Eagles and Steelers) just for fun.  I don't think either will actually win, but the Eagles have a history of beating Brady with quarterbacks we don't remember, and the Steelers want to punish their geriatric quarterback who just wants to retire in peace.  So you never know.

But we must remember that people are risk-adverse and jobs were on the line, the Raiders as long as they kept the ball were already in the playoffs and all of this with an interim coach, he was not going to take a risk there as in his mind there was the possibility of maybe getting the full-time job if they made it to the playoffs, but as soon as that time out got called they knew they needed the first down, so they went for it and as they say the rest is history.

Agreed! I will draft Justin Herbert next season. He deserved to be in the playoff. The Chargers must improve their defense and must avoid penalties on offense. There was too much yellow flags for the Chargers in that very important final regular season game.

@DireWolf. I am okay just drink and enjoy the beer for me. Congratulations!

@South Park. For fantasy it will be Renfrow versus Ekeler. This is the battle of avoiding the bottomest of bottom hehehe.
You beat me fair and square congrats on avoiding being last, and as a small punishment I will wear on my personal text a message until this SB about how much I suck at FF.

That 49ers game!  OMG that was a nail-biter and so much fun.  I was stuck at ORD waiting for a delayed connection, watching the game at a bar.  Me and my cohort (Packers fan) were a tad bit drunk and being loud rooting for the Niners.  By the time it went into OT we had the whole bar rooting for the Niners.  In Chicago!  Good times lol.

Thank you all for the congratulations on winning the FF league.  What a streak of luck I had there at the end.  That's the first time I've ever been crowned champion outside of my fantasies (pun intended.)  Thank you all for participating and keeping it fun.  I can't wait to start again next year.  I assure you my luck will run out eventually.
It seems you had a terrific weekend, lots of fun, you won our FF league and your 49ers made it to the playoffs, not bad for a single weekend if may say so. Wink

The rest of you, I promised I'd buy the beers if I won, and of course I'll honor that commitment.
