We just saw this article today, and felt the need to clarify a few points in it as they did spend a little time talking about Pepper Mining but never even fired off an email to us, and some of the information therein has been a little damaging to us.

Long story short, Pepper Mining is not based in California and we do not have a partnership agreement with HashFast other than the HDK agreement we signed back in the early spring to be a licensee that can make boards based on their chips. They did say they were planning on doing a blog post about us, but the new and fancy sounding Premier Design Partner label for board designers is news to us and there is not any sort of business partnership between the two companies.

Got my order for 2 in. Now to see who ships faster ... Habanero or Black Arrow!

There is no IHS, it just has four bare dies.

What is the IHS on the chip made of? Is it nickel plated copper like Intel? What is the TIM that is between the die and IHS?

I only ask these questions because I have experience removing the IHS and replacing TIM on the die. It helped me clock a 3770K CPU to a stable 4.5 GHZ. Idle temps 30C and max temps 60C. Wondering if improving the TIM on the chip can lead to more OC capability.

Yeah, there should have been an email that went out to all the existing customers with details on compensation for the price drop. Let me know if you didn't get it.

Man, these things look nice... too bad @ 1100$ couple w/ an unknown ship date, they still arent worth it =(
900-1000$ would be ok if they werent more than 2 weeks from shipping.

Are you offering anything to those that bought at $1500 since the board wasn't released before the price drop?

Thanks QG.  Hmmm.  I really think they would do a lot better mounted vertically.  It would seem hard to cool the backside of the asic board mounted to the bottom of the case that way; and I think a lot of heat is generated on the back mounting plate.  I guess it is harder to find a mounting solution my way though.

We have various coolers from the single radiator the dual size, the important factor is being able to push enough airflow though the radiator to keep them cool esp when you start clocking them past 850Mhz range.  What I replace the H80i fan with something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/111103811212?lpid=82 , cant recall the exact one but this can push enough air though the radiator to blow dry your hair.

The firmware has a thermal shutdown set to 105c.

One of the main things is to make sure you have proper pressure on the cooling head and that each of the 4 dies are running as cool as they can.  We will have a little tool you can use to visually see the temps of each die and then you can slowly screw down that area a bit more to make sure the cooling head making enough contact with the die.

Of course the higher ambient temp where you have these the more your trying to cool the whole board in general.  I have exp with this situation with a few evo boards we have as well, and well if you really want to push these, u gotta keep em cool

What temp does the Habenero thermal protection kick in?  Wondering about environment temps compared to operating/shutdown temps.  

The h80 is a great cooler, it keeps my 3770k running 4.4GHz at under 80C on BurnTest with silent fans.  

I'm wondering if an h100 or custom loop is the way to go for "spicier" environment temps?

btw, we reduced the price of the Habanero board to $1100 today and if you want in on batch one you should order asap! cheers and happy friday!

I am considering putting 3 of these boards into a 4U case.

Any ideas on how to mount the mining boards so that they sit lengthwise along the long edge of the 4U case (and leaving room on one side for the stacked 1U power supplies I will need)?

Case: Bud Industries 4U HC-14104 $170 (I am still looking for a cheaper solution, but this one is nice because its empty and easily modified)

Power Supplies: 3 1U server power supplies stacked @ 1000 watts or more... need suggestions. I see a lot of HP and Supermicro ones that would fit, but they look to have some kind of propriety connector.  

Cooling (liquid):
EK Supremacy Universal CPU Liquid Cooling Block x 3 ($300)
Alphacool NexXxoS Monsta Quad 120mm Radiator ($144) - should be able to mount at the rear of the 4U chassis
San Ace 120 12v fans for the radiator x 4 ($120)
Alphacool Repack Dual 5.25" Acrylic Reservoir - with 3 Swiftech MCP35x pumps ($500)
Misc hoses, connectors, elbows etc. ($150)

Habenero mining board x 3 ($3,300)

TOTAL: ~ $5,000 depending on cost of power supplies and whether I can get some of the prices down with some hunting.

I see that the Habenero with the Corsair cooling block is pulling 715 Gh/s.  With a quad 120mm radiator (80mm thick, very high flow) and an independent high flow pump for each board, it would seem likely to be able to push the chips a little further, maybe to 800 Gh/s?  Higher?  Is there a graph of power draw for the chips versus Gh/s??

At 800 Gh/s, 3 boards would produce 2.4 Th/s in a nice 4U rackable case for around $5K. That is not bad ($2.08 per Gh/s vs 1.5 Th/s spondoolies for $3,200 or $2.13 per Gh/s in a 1.5U rack case). If the chips could be pushed further, to maybe 900 Gh/s (2.7 Th/s), it starts to look really compelling.

All of this depends on:

1) Whether my cooling system would be enough to get the HF chips to 800 Gh/s or higher
2) Finding 3 1U server power supplies that would work, stacked, and not cost a fortune
3) Making sure all that crap will fit in a 4U case (fwiw, I don't think a 3U case would work because the Habenero boards are a little too tall for that)
4) Finding a way to mount Habeneros inside the 4U case

Ideas/recommendations?

Still Need water cooling and rear heatsink info (recommended &/or supplied).
Wire connectors supplied ? for using server supplies (2000w are cheap)
4 PCIE 16 or 14ga 24" long pigtails would do.
Chip price was posted @ 800 per unit, any way to get Intel or AMD TI ect on this raping going on

As stated power use is irrelevant, if it cannot pay for power for many years I would be worried.
I still profit on ant U1 BE and U2.. Can buy one U2 a month at current diff.
@750gh for this unit I could buy 30-50 U2 a month based of the 15gh I am at now.
hehe low budget miner needed...

Poorly worded. We just have a fixed quantity until we start another batch, so I'm not sure how long it will take to sell them all once they're in hand.
