Theirs something we need to overlook, since the push up thread is not call for scam, I think is relevant, if you are reporting it as off-topic what about some threads that gives wrong speculations and predictions of bitcoin, will you also report such threads as off topic, the truth is that we are becoming logical in the forum, whatever you know you can apply with your group to catch fun in this community you can apply it, but let it not attract scam, for me I have not seen anything wrong with the thread, except that you find the thread unreasonable through your points of view, why other persons will find it reasonable through their sense of reasoning. So don't agitate on something that's cogent.

This thread has been very helpful to me because of the pushups, before now I don't engage in exercise because of my busy schedules but I used this opportunity to exercise and it has really helped my body.
You are right that some people are not even engaging in the pushups but are posting fake report but I think that should be there own problem and not ours because they are missing out from the real benefit of the thread.
I went through almost all the post in that thread and I discovered at a time people involved in the pushups were asked to post there transformation body since they started the pushups and they did and to be honest some people really benefited through there body transformation.
Those who are faking it are missing the benefit and we should not bother ourselves with that, let look at the main goal or reason the thread was created for and not focus on people who are deceiving there selves by faking there report.
Thank you.

The only thing that is unreasonable here is that this thread is kept in that section. It belongs to Off Topic. You want (alleged) exercise and fun? Go to OT.

Calling the thread "the stupidest thread on Bitcointalk" or saying all other stuff was unnecessary if your purpose was only to say that the thread belongs to the wrong section. You could start this topic with a title such as "Does this thread actually belong to this section?" or maybe, "This thread is placed in the wrong section" or anything else that could convey the point you are trying to make. What you chose as the title and then as the body of your topic made it look too negative and that is the reason why you are getting so much criticism for it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that thread, in my opinion, if you thought it's in the wrong section, that should have been your only agenda with this thread. We have far more serious issues in the forum to deal with rather than pointing fingers at specific threads that are literally causing no harm to the forum as a whole. A thread being placed at a wrong section doesn't make much damage, to be honest, but still, showing concern is good but if it's done with good intent and suitable representation.

The stupidest thread on Bitcointalk is probably this one. Why are you crying in Meta for a thread that has nothing to do with you?
Some people are really weird. If you are too lazy to get your ass off the couch and do push-ups, that's your problem; but don't try to stop someone else.

Very true.

Why should anyone qualify to op like he is some important person on the forum. I can not think of one reason why would anyone care what he thinks about the thread and the participants. If he likes serious topics so much why don't he write more in Serious discussion and Ivory tower subforums? But for some reason those two subforums have just a few posts per month.

Can't understand motivation to remove topic that helps people stick to their exercise routine? I see that op identifies as female,so I would invite her to calm her hormones and better join 100 pushup topic for her mental health.

Also very true.

The attention this guy gets goes way too far. When I read it first, I had to laughingly shake my head. This forum is a place I like to spend time on exactly because at the end of the day, everyone can say whatever they want, can share whatever they want as long as they don't violate certain explicit and implicit rules and values. But even when they do violate any of the aforementioned, they can still raise their voice.

I have jumped in on the Niacine / Glutamine topic JJG got started and thought this is amazing! Sure we are a bitcoin community here, but considering how much time we all have spent here reading, writing, why would some normal life issues not find their way into this forum when some people share the same ideas. Sharing the same ideas is actually what brought many of the oldest members together here anyway. And the fact that the range of topics will expand at some point, is not surprising at all. Involving some fun to keep people involved is the least stupid I can imagine to be published here on this forum.

Trying to discourage other user from gaining fitness through the 100 push-up a day until Bitcoin reaches $100k thread is what I don't really understand by referring such thread as a stupid thread of which same Op still posted in the 100 push-up thread to increase the pages that he called stupid thread, if probably maybe he can't do exercise or dislike doing exercises is never an excuse to discourage other from doing push-ups which comes with a better health benefits.

I believe that thread has help alot of Bitcoiner to gain fitness, strength, and stamina through doing exercises and also more user has gain more knowledge that regards doing exercises.

These are the threads my local friends utilize very well. WO was the favourite one, but some of you started to giving them neutrals and trust exclusions, so my friends decided to use different threads where Jay is active. Because he loves every posts where the writer acts like they are Bitcoin maximalist. Since these threads are big, my friends exchanges merits between them and nobody notice that if no one checks their profile. It seems you guys started to looking into those threads as well. You got no chill man.  Huh Huh

I also follow this topic and see it as a challenge and submit reports on some days. Some people may have bad intentions but ultimately they deceive themselves.
I think there are no users who spam the topic to post or get merit farming. I checked the pages and did not see any unusual absurdity, in short, I just could not understand why it bothered some people so much.
In my opinion, one of the best activities on the forum is that people try to implement it in a disciplined way and it is also fun and healthy.

The image has been edited.

That seems pretty clear, and although I agree it was done (probably) for purposes of humor, it's not exactly funny.  One thing this forum seriously lacks is personalities who can do genuine humor through writing.  Anyway.

As far as that thread attracting merit farmers and similar members with similar motives, show me a thread in a section like Bitcoin Discussion or any of the altcoin sections that doesn't act as a magnet for those idiots.  That's why whenever I've created a self-moderated thread, I rarely get shitposters in it.  Presumably people know I'll nuke their moronic nonsense without hesitation.

OP, you mentioned doing 100 pushups a day is nonsense for anyone who knows anything about physical education....I'm curious as to why you wrote that.  I'm no expert in that field, but I'd think it'd be great for increasing arm strength if not the price of bitcoin, no?  I am truly wondering about that (not that I'd be able to even get close to 100 pushups in this lifetime).

This is one of the more appropriate posts about the push-up thread. I am thinking that I can't trust my eyes reading all of this about a funny thread. I agree with you that it should be in the off-topic section, but other than that, seriously, we have seen a lot of discussion about topics we all agreed are not worth getting excited or angry about. This topic, in which I participate, clearly is one that doesn't deserve the attention it now seems to be getting in the negative sense.

I have had some great conversations with JayJuanGee there, it goes hand in hand with a thread that JJG opened and I participated in and while I agree that there might be some people trying to fish for merit, there are some genuine people around there, like DirtyKeyboard, whom I got to know through the thread and who has been providing me with software recommendations and learning material to set up those wonderful tables with Python myself.

I don't think the thread harms anyone at all. Merit farmers are everywhere to be found. Some people will fake their number of push-ups, some people are obviously very serious about it as they seek exchange in regards to little health issues and what could be done about it. Frankly, it is a nice side topic that I enjoy being part of, I do take my push-ups seriously btw., but again I do agree that the topic should have been opened in the off-topic section. As to the editing of the image, I have no clue and I never paid attention to that. It definitely wasn't the reason for me to go there.

That's called humour, it's not related to sport or to the bitcoin price itself, only people who call it "nonsense" can't get the humour.

It seems some people can't get that that humour belongs to off-topic, not to Speculation.

Apart from what you have mentioned, this thread became heaven for the merit farmers and abusers.

That's for sure. 174 pages of that rubbish?

I think the reason moderator thought it does not belong to off-topic is because of how it is connected to bitcoin price.

Connected? As connected as a 100 farts a day challenge.

I don't think it's stupid. But it could follow Wall Observer's treatment, where the thread doesn't show signature.

I think its easier and more appropriate to move it to Off Topic.

If we're going to be completely honest, if it was started by a beginner or a low-ranking member, that topic would have been moved a long time ago - although those who expressed their "support" would certainly not agree with that.

I agree.

You are being completely unreasonable here...

Come on now, even a kid would get the humor in that and know that it's just editing and it's done for fun.

The only thing that is unreasonable here is that this thread is kept in that section. It belongs to Off Topic. You want (alleged) exercise and fun? Go to OT.

That thread might look like spam, but most of the posters there aren’t spammers. It might seem silly to you, but others love that thread, and as someone mentioned earlier, it’s all about humor.

If they love that thread so much they will still keep loving it on off topic.

It's bullshit because you only work the upper part of the body and you don't increase the workload, unless you are able to do less than 100 (which you can do in several rounds during the day), and if you increase it, yes, but even then the improvement is very limited. It would be better to complete it with other exercises to train the whole body, starting with squats, which you can do without weight first and then with weight that you have available at home. And above all, it is crucial to increase the workload and vary it. If you want to do push ups, first do normal push ups, increased to x reps and then you can combine them with isometrics, incline, supersets, etc.

People need to stop taking random ideas on the Internet too literally. OgNasty thought of doing pushups and encouraged everyone to follow him. To me, that's fun and healthy, because it creates an environment of patience and discipline, while it keeps a fun character.

What people have to stop thinking about is that this thread is fit for Speculation.

100 Push-up a day isn't even strenuous especially if you have been working out for sometime
It would be to a Noob or individuals that barely or has been inactive from exercises for a while.
Individuals there are adviced to start knowing their capacity and start building.
I don't really care why the thread was created but it did help me pickup exercising again
And I must say, it did help
Though I don't post anymore since schedules are tight and shit
I still find time to work some muscle out even if it is not as effective as beating limits everytime
It's something especially to an individual that sits in the office all the time.

You might call the name stupid, or the goal stupid but atleast it helps those who really perform it.

Apart from what you have mentioned, this thread became heaven for the merit farmers and abusers. Whether they do the pushups or not, they report regularly to get some merits, and some forum members never disappoint them. I have been checking some profiles lately and noticed they use some threads to farm merits, and this thread is one of them. Another one is the Buy Dip Hold thread, which they use.

I assume the screenshot you posted is just an edited one. The bold text looks edited. But even if it's not edited, I don't think Satoshi ever said something like that. I will be happy if I get proved wrong.
174 pages I mean damn! haha, what might they be talking about there? I did not come to see this topic before, or maybe I don't remember. If merit spamming is happening here, then the chance to catch them is so low, as the OP said clearing the topic is hard, so he failed to report it to the moderators.

The screenshot is definitely edited, not the bold text, because if you will see the email archives, it is in its original form. The pic they used has a serial number of 129th Email and on the archive, send to Marti is the following.

Most of the fixes are on the sender's side, so if you were downloading the network upgrades to 0.2.

How long did the initial download take?
After Google Lensing the humorous picture I only found source on Twitter means it don't have any official source either so it surely proves its fake.

Threads that are merit-free, zero-IQ spamfests that should be locked:

La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2024/25
Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod]
Premier League Prediction Thread 2024/2025
Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A)
Cricket match prediction discussions
Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread
UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Season

No offense to people who like these sports, but if the majority of your posts are found in a combination of any of the above-mentioned threads, that means they most likely suck, and you most likely run multiple accounts on the forum. That's just based on my empirical experience with the forum.

It’s the safest thread to post the gambling post quota for signature campaign. There’s a lot of user that fall directly to your description which most of their post quota only revolves on that thread.

This kind of mega thread isn’t have any value anymore when we talk about the effectiveness of signature campaign on that area since almost a spam fest out there.

100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge

I had seen the thread before and I guess because of the title I hadn't stopped to read it but now I see that it is 174 pages long, a spam megathread at its best.

There are stupider threads, but as far as being a hub for merit farmers, yes its among the stupidest. Lets name n shame some of the worst offenders (meaning they are filled with spammy posts by merit farmers):

[CHALLENGE] Run A Bitcoin Node: 14 Days To 14 Merits
Save your nice merit records here - LAST UPDATE: 13/04/2024
Announce your rank up, merit or any achievements that makes you feel great!
[Merit] Share your best posts/threads with Fillippone to be merit assessed
[v2][Self Moderated] In Merits, Count Down To Your Next Rank...
El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender!
Buy the DIP, and HODL!

I want to note that I think these threads were started with good intentions, but became targets for merit hunters & muti-accounters.

Threads that are merit-free, zero-IQ spamfests that should be locked:

Definitely lame. Maybe not the stupidest on bitcointalk, but still pretty lame.

A) It was started ~2 weeks after he threatened to knock out & auction the teeth of another member here. (Og flexing his cyber muscles?  Roll Eyes)
B) It's an easy way for paid signature spammers to keep up with their quotas.

I feel bad for anyone pulled into it who think it is being done purely for good reasons like health and physical fitness, they should continue to work towards their own health goals since the premise of 100 push-ups a day isn't a bad one, and the idea of 100 push-ups a day has been around well before Og... but it really shouldn't be surprising to anyone who knows the guy that he would use fake info. and trickery to get people to support his manipulative behaviors.

Credits to the merit hunter spammer to make it possible. You will notice that same group of user keep spamming same Bitcoin thread like El Salvador thread that is still active and the buy the dip.

It’s easy to accomplish a plus 1 post and a higher chance of merit on that thread due to the merit source active on these thread.

Honestly, I’d rather see threads like that where people are probably enjoying themselves than those serious threads that eventually just turn into a spam hub with the same repetitive posts. At least with this one, you’ll see some fun developments every now and then… lol. Just let them be, mate. If you think the thread is stupid, that’s fine, because Bitcoin is going wild right now--it’s already a crazy bull run!
