Not only him many early Bitcoin users have lost their wallet keys and now their funds are dead. The fact is that Early Bitcoin users never thought that Bitcoin will gain that much price ever. some of them have just bought it for FUN purpose and never recognized its potential as a currency or payment mode. You will be amazed to know that only 75-78% of total supply is in circulation rest is either lost or cold stored.

Yep but it wasent all because we never thought it would be worth something in the future it was because we did not really understand the tech at the time as well.

this feels so bad man Sad. It's nothing that someone can do to recover the bitcoin ? did you try to contact everyone specialized into stuff like this ? if that would have happened to me man I would be so sad but I wouldn't lost my faith , who knows maybe in some years the tech will provide a chance for you.

If Bitcoin calculates the exchange rate at the moment, when the Bitcoin exchange rate is $ 17000 then that amount is $ 1500000, a very large amount. Make sure the owner is sorry for the loss of Bitcoin information. I found that address on Blockchain, the total transaction is 103 Bitcoin, it would be very wasteful if all of this Bitcoin lost. If you convert to USD then the owner it became a billionaire in 2018.

so many peoples lost because they didn't value much about bitcoin back those days. if he knew his bitcoins will value this much after 7years,he didn't lost that.
Today some peoples are mining "shitcoins" which costs almost nothing and don't care about the wallets. Who knows how much money those cryptocurrencies will cost tomorrow...

Yes, everyone must have had an interesting experience about bitcoin in the past, do you know why? because most people doubt the future of bitcoin. In fact, bitcoin prices rose to multiples today. I am also sorry to sell my bitcoin in early 2017, if I knew the price would go up this high, I would save it. Maybe all we need now is the magic bag of Doraemon to ask the time machine. LOL

There are several methods to secure the data of your wallet, including paper wallets and several copies on several sticks. Additionally, simply send larger amounts to several wallets and if you lose the success for one, you still have success to the other and are not flat broke.

I would feel like dying if this happened to me. I mean this is just so devastating. Everyone is trying their best to make a profit out of bitcoin and this situation actually happened. I am just sad for him.

Indeed it has something to do with faulty security measures. Nonetheless, you cannot attribute such negligence to Bitcoin per se because this situation happens to traditional fiat currencies as well. You can only blame the people around -- the account owner, the thief, the management -- but you simply cannot just point your fingers on one currency. It is high time to own up to our mistakes instead of looking for people to blame. As what the guy here previously noted, the lost was due to 'stupid' mistakes. Hence, it was a personal blow.

Wow what a tough lesson to learn.  Back then Bitcoins were not worth much so many people were careless with their wallets.  I have heard some hard drives were accidently thrown away or wiped cleaned with their coins on them.

And this guy lost 7500 Bitcoins  Sad

"However, such stories are not extremely surprising or uncommon back in those years; especially because no one had a clue about the cryptocurrencies’ value in the coming years. In 2013, there was another tale was a Welsh IT worker, James Howells who had lost almost 7,500 Bitcoins!
Apparently, he had accidentally thrown out an old hard disk which contained his private key. And according to reports today, that disk now lies under tones of piles of landfill inside a waste recycling centre in Pillgwenlly, Newport. If Howells had taken a little care of the same hard disk, he would be a millionaire today!"

Im not sure those bitcons will be stuck for ever I have heard that there is or will be a sipping process which basically sips small amounts of Bitcoins from old and unused Blockchains They can analize the blockchain to see if it is active or not and if its dead then they would begin to "sip" (take very small amounts from it) I have no idea if this is true or not but I can remeber reading about somehwere

This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

I'm sure he will take some lesson from this. But this- "So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad" is more troubling.  Where are those BTC now I wonder....
an exprience that he have been lesson learned about it and he might get a lot of mistakes that may done for so for me this is what we have to be more dicipline and take care for all of what we have done for.

So how did he lose it? Does he still have the hard drive? If so I would suggest not using it, and scanning it with software that restores deleted files.

Iv done the exact same thing although not as much Iv only lost around $2k in Litecoins and around $400 in Bitcoins

I have also gone through the proccess of scaning for deleted files and then done a search for wallet.dat files it bought up 6 walet.dat files and I did manage to get some of my Bitcoin back but I have tried with the other wallet.dat files with Litecoin and it just says they are corrupt. and closes the wallet back down

This is indeed the greatest loss I have ever witnessed. If he can keep it, he now has more than $ 1.6 million, some great wealth. It is very unfortunate that this property is the number of properties that I am dreaming to receive in the future. Really condolences to him, hope he can try to start again.

I think if he will recover his wallet for sure he instantly becomes millionaire! The importance of private keys rely to the owner. It is impossible to open up the wallet without it. So, the lesson here is to give importance to your wallet.
I think he neglected on what happens to his wallet specially it is a huge amount for now.

This is a terrible loss. He has lost a huge amount of money. The 103BTC he lost is over $1.6million.
It's really sad seeing a whole lot of bitcoins getting wasted in some wallet somewhere.
I really hope he is able to recover his bitcoins in order to avoid working in vain.
