Hey dooglus:

Were you maintaining a 50 day list too, or not?  Maybe too much work to maintain that many days, but this 20 day list is starting to seem a bit inadequate and also is starting to appear that little by little all of the top 20 days are being replaced by dates in 2017... maybe that is not a problem, but it would seem a bit more informative to have some older dates in the mix, as well, no?

I'm not actually 'maintaining' any lists. I'm recreating the list from scratch each day, relying on stats from bitcoincharts.com.

I make the list long enough to include the last day's price. If the last day's price is in the top 20 then I only post the top 20. Otherwise I round up to a multiple of 5. Once yesterday's price isn't in the top 50 I go back into hibernation...

I only recently came across this thread, but I find the concept quite interesting to post a top 20 of the daily average, rather than just what the price may have reached at any one snap-shot in time.

At the same time, it stirs in me a lot of other ways that similar questions can be post to give slightly differing views of the data... like I mention the top 50 daily averages.  Also could be top 20 3 day averages or top 20 weekly averages... I know that any of this would be a bit of work, but just gets me a bit curious to think about those other variations on the data set and speculation about reading the time periods in different ways.

How confident are you in this prediction?

But seriously, you might consider using a script to generate your reports. I posted mine in this thread not long ago, and here it is again:

Code:
vwap() {
    days=1200
    top=20
    currency=USD
    rows=$(wget -o/dev/null -O- "http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/chart.json?m=bitstampUSD&r=$days&i=Daily" |
                  sed 's/], \[/\n/g'   |
                  head -n $((days-1))  |
                  tr -d '[],'          |
                  awk '{print $1, $8}' |
                  sort -k2nr           |
                  head -$top
        )
    newest=$(echo "$rows" | sort -n | tail -1 | awk '{print $1}')
    printf "Update:\n[pre]\n"
    n=1
    month_ago=$(($(date +%s) - 60*60*24*32))
    echo "$rows" |
        while read t p
        do
            if ((t > month_ago)); then b1="[b]"            ; b2="[/b]"    ; else b1=""; b2=""; fi
            if ((t == newest))   ; then c1="[color=#7F0000]"; c2="[/color]"; else c1=""; c2=""; fi
            printf "%s%s%2d  %s  %7.2f $currency%s%s\n" "$b1" "$c1" $n "$(TZ= date -d @$t +%Y-%m-%d)" $p "$c2" "$b2"
            ((n++))
        done
    printf "[/pre]\n"
}

You should be able to adapt that to work for Euros.

Edit: note that bold font is used for prices less than a month old.

Edit2: I second qwk's proposal to use ISO 8601 for date formats. It makes sense because writing the most significant information first (the year) and the least significant last (the day of the month) matches how we write numbers - (hundreds first, units last), so sorting alphabetically also sorts into date order.

thanks for correcting, edited post.

i will change to ISO 8601

in €uroland dates are noted usually noted like: 31.12.2016 as opposed to 2016-12-31
i tried to come up with a notation that keeps confusion low. i hope it is readable.

I guess this thread will need daily updating, at least for the next 10-15 days.

I've been updating every day for the last month or so whenever the previous day's price was in the all-time top 50.

Thanx for the daily updates, Dooglus. This has become a must-see thread for me.

Looking forward to the day when each day's new entry is at the top of the list.

We Canadians had several of those a little over a month ago. Even the Europeans had a few.

Hopefully those days will be back soon. I'd like to see our politically beleaguered friends to the south get in on the fun too.

Still 9 days where we were below $1000? Somehow, it feels like we have been over $1000 for quite some time now.

you quoted the update, i might say. check the charts yourself. bitstamp climbed over $1000 just two days ago.
