What about the Mondial?

It will be hard for team play the EURO in 2021, national tournaments like Serie A, etc AND 12 games for qualifications at Mondial

(Not sure if the numbers of qualifications games for the Mondial is exactly 12 for the nation but I think they are)

Anyway, I used to see Euro promotion but from last two days there are no such promo in the sports channel 🤪
Grin Grin Since the EURO has been set up to be held in 2021 then the promo may not be valid anymore because it is still a long time to EURO 2021. lol

Maybe the country is still safe from Covid-19

It's really boring if we have to wait in 2020 for soccer.
It's not just soccer/football but more or less in every sports, it's the same. Not much sports lately. However I see some club friendly in Russia and Switzerland LOL

I think all sports are postponed but it seems that there are still those who played today.

Maybe the country is still safe from Covid-19

Maybe they could isolate the games somehow? I don't know how it could be done perfectly but if you do not have visitors on the arena you can basically make a closed doors Olympics if you are careful enough. How?

You basically get all of the athletes and all of the people who will work in japan a few weeks before, preferably a month before the games start, that way you put them in places they can live and you separate them all, you give them tests right there and the ones that turn out negative can go outside and train and talk with each other, if anyone turns out positive you send them back. That way by the time games start you will know every single person who works there and if they have corona or not, nobody is allowed to go outside or go inside, and you have a very clean Olympics.

OP is definitely on the ball, I just noticed the thread title has changed already from 2020 to 2021 Cheesy
In all seriousness the move by UEFA was sensible & works out the best for everybody. Now we get football in 2021 summer & the World Cup the summer after Wink

And not only this.
Everything will change.

Euro 2021
Olympics games 2021?
World cup 2022
Athletic Mondial 2022? from 2021
Copa America?
Copa Africa?
Winter games?

It might happen in 2021.

If Covid-19 can be overcome this year then I think 2021 is the right thing for all competitions to begin because in that year all Covid-19 will be cleared all over the world, (if it is finished this year)

It's really boring if we have to wait in 2020 for soccer.

Well, June 30th might be a bit of a stretch. It would be great if they would be able to pull that through but I feel it might go deep into July as well.

The problem in July is contract expiry/loan deals ending for some players (for example, Lallana would be out of his Liverpool contract in July) but I guess stuff like these will be easily resolved.

Patience is the only thing we can have right now that will help us. We have no idea what will happen until next year. However if olympics joins this as well, we may actually end up with a summer league all of its own by the national leagues. Think about it, there will be nothing this summer if olympics goes as well, this one already postponed. So if by may or june we get better and there is treatment and everything is back on track, maybe there could be leagues again. It is still risky, if this happened back in november or something we could have shortened leagues but it is march already, so I don't know if we have enough time left. However no matter what happens this postponing was a great idea.

@Captain Corporate sadly we have no other option but to wait and see if the Olympics will be postponed or no, but at the moment Japan is determined that it’ll not postpone the Olympics event. It’s also pertinent to note that we have no information available yet, whether various league will be able complete their season or no as this virus is refusing to slow down, and to protect fans and players it’s quite possible that this season may be called off in various leagues.

Japanese do have say in their situation, if their country is not doing so well because of corona and they can't hold the tournament there, they will tell the committee that they can't do it and then the committee can't do anything about it, they may want to move it somewhere else but in this short span of time it would be difficult and considering nobody wants travelers right now it will be near impossible and probably even impossible.

I am 100% sure it will be just postponed, maybe for 1 year, maybe for 2, maybe it will happen in 4 years when the other should happen, maybe many athletes will be hurt because of this, but whatever happens it is more important to keep these people alive than help them get their dreams come true.

I would rather see no more corona infected people over getting gold myself if I had the chance, I am sure athletes think the same.

Toma helped me get on the ball, but yeah. I think we got this resolved reasonably quickly. I mean, it's not like we know for sure what's going to happen but at least with this huge postponement there is every chance we can finish our seasons out, and then plan for the rest for life post corona after this with some comfort.

Of course, I'm not educated nor informed enough to say anything with certainty but we're doing the minimum to keep things mitigated. I've a feeling we'll be all right.

Temporary forum vacation
I think for me we have to just wait and see, and form a plan that can easily shift ahead by weeks or months if the situation does not improve. Very good that most countries are now just sitting in lockdown and waiting for the virus to just pass. I do not know if UK is right to do their tactic to get fast herd immunity but it does sound quite stupid.

Either way, EURO postponed hopefully they do the playoffs and qualifiers for WORLD CUP quickly too. Make tournaments shorter and qualifiers all together at once.

I do not see anything on UEFA but I can see the Wikipedia pages are already calling it EURO 2021;) So threat title changed!
UEFA released an official statement: https://www.uefa.com/insideuefa/mediaservices/mediareleases/newsid=2641071.html

Well, Olympics might present a bigger challenge to postpone than the EURO. We'll see how it goes but I have a feeling Olympic Games will be held in 2020.
Unrelated to UEFA but...Man, what's with the japanese and the Olympic commitee not wanting to postpone the whole thing? We all know there's A LOT of money involved but this is embarrassing.

They're prolly hopeful that everything will blow over by middle of April.  I'm hopeful too.  I reeaallyy wanna see Khabib vs Ferguson (UFC 249 main event) to happen in front of a huge crowd and everything.

This is a big fight which can lure crowds so this is a big no no for now but for sure once this things stabilize we can see the bout to cast and fore sure many people bite their tongue for intensity to see this fight continue.  For now lets relax on our backend and lets stay healthy since the current situation is so serious and lets pray that it will end up soon so we can see those big fights.

Regarding Olympics, the Japanese have said that they plan to host a full event and all the planning has not stopped, neither the preparations. They are adjusting it a lot though and yes, the Japanese are meticulous to a point. They will do everything and use and show off all their tech to make sure they have clean and sterile environments if necessary with VR gear for all spectators I bet;)

As the EURO has been postponed the same is going to happen with the Olympics.
Both of the events are huge. And if we say that EURO is not so big as Olympics and they are already postponed, the same is going to happen to them. We just have to wait for the official announcement.

But, as I remember, I heard on the news last week that Olympics will be held or canceled. They won't postpone it.

Where did you hear this? They happen every 4 years and are a pinnacle in the career of most athletes around the world.
I seriously doubt they would cancel them completely, it's just too much negatives if they go that way.

Maybe having them the same year as the Winter ones would be a possible solution - but then again, that is a whole 2-year delay.

Some tough choices are going to have to be made, postponing the EURO is a far simpler decision to make.

I really can't remember where did I hear that. I think it was on the radio. The radio host was talking about an online article which stated that Olympics definitely won't be postponed and that it can be either held like it's scheduled or canceled.

I know what Olympic games mean to every athlete in the World. It's by far the most significant competition and I'm sure every athlete would rather cancel all other competitions than Olympics. That's why I hope they will find some kind of a solution. After all, they are Japanese. If they can't find a solution, no one can Grin

The decision on the Olympic games, whether or not to be held, will be decided by the International Olympic Committee, not by the Japanese.
The situation with the virus in the world is such that it seems almost impossible for the Olympics to be held in the summer, perhaps at the end of the year.
It's not just about what the virus situation is going to be like in Japan, but whether all athletes will be healthy and ready to perform at the games.

True, but I'm sure the International Olympic Committee will talk to the Japanese as the country responsible for the organisation.

I'm not sure that summer Olympics can be held at the end of the year. Japan is in the northern hemisphere where it's winter at the end of the year. Some summer sports simply can't be held in winter. I don't know exactly what temperatures are in Japan in the end of the year, but I think it would be too cold.

Postponing the EM from 2020 to 2021 was the only right decision. I also assume that the Olympic Games will not be spared from a postponement this year.
