thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo late goal.
A late and an important goal for Portugal, an important goal too for his career and to still show that there is something he can offer, scoring goals when the team needs it. I predicted him to score as you can see in my post before the game
Ronaldo will score.
Had it been an option to bet on , the odds will be very high because he has been struggling to score goals, did not score a valid goal in their last game and him scoring in this game was also not 100% certainty. A goal in his 200th appearance is a good way to mark it.

One of the results that surprised me yesterday was the defeat of Bosnia and Herzegovina.I was very surprised that the team, which was the heavy favorite against Luxembourg, was not able to score.I think that the team with such a pool of players should be at least in 2nd place in this group after 4 matches.Bosnia and Herzegovina has very good players but they had difficulty in reflecting this on the field.
Portugal, on the other hand, managed to beat their opponent with a single goal.We cannot say that it was an easy match for them, but they still managed to win.In the other match of the group, we can say that it was not a very difficult match for Slovakia, but they could not make the most of the goal positions they found. We can also say that they played a dominant football from the beginning to the end of the match.
I've looked at Luxembourg's game stats and probably yesterday's match was one of the best in recent memory for this national team. But sometimes they have stellar times when they suddenly show a great game. Last year they drew 3-3 against Turkey, which was also unexpected. Before that, they beat Montenegro 2-1.

Belgium were struggling in first 30 minutes of this game and Estonia were doing impressive but after having some adjustment things were completely under their control and before end of first half we have two goals from the Lukaku which was good
To be honest , I really didn't see Belgium winning this game had they continued  playing like they did in the early minutes of the game, and the previous match in which the drew when we all expected  them to win..made me doubt them to deliver a win...But I must say they do know how to hold the ball but in front of goal they weren't so creative imo..but good to see Lukaku10 getting on  the scoresheet  once again.

Portugal plays against Iceland because Israel and Portugal both are in different groups, and we have no chance of their matches in this campaign, with Portugal won by 1 - 0 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo late goal.
Thanks for the correction,  must have been absent minded when the people I was watching  the game with saw "ISL" and assumed it was Israel when the team Portugal played was Iceland.

Atleast CR7 was on the scoresheet as predicted  Smiley

One of the results that surprised me yesterday was the diddefeat of Bosnia and Herzegovina.I was very surprised that the team, which was the heavy favorite against Luxembourg
These competitions always produce such unexpected results and from the stats you can tell that Bosnia and Herzegovina did everything right, had most of the ball possession,  had more shots at and on goal, completed more passes but it wasn't just their day and Luxembourg beat them convincingly!!!

In the match against Iceland, Portugal should have won with a fairly superior score, but again their finishing still looked bad to convert into goals. Portugal managed to score a goal in the final minutes through Cristiano Ronaldo's kick which took advantage of Goncalo Inacio's assist which also closed the victory for Portugal with a score of 0-1. There was tension after the goal as the referee had to look at the VAR to determine whether it was offside or not, but it appeared to be a goal and Cristano met the goal with his teammates.

In this match, Cristiano Ronaldo also re-entered his name in the Guinness Book of World Records after reaching 200 caps with Portugal. It's definitely not easy during his 20-year career with Portugal and at 38 he can still be decisive in victory for Portugal.

Considering Iceland's style of play, this is a good result. And by the way, despite the fact that many criticize Portugal now it has 4 wins in 4 games, many other top teams have worse results, and for example Poland failed altogether.
Ronaldo is doing everything as before - every game is an update of some record, what kind of player!  Smiley
Portugal managed to wipe out the 4 matches they played with perfect wins, and that put them at the top of Group J.
Talking about Cristiano Ronaldo, at his no longer young age he can create something that is difficult for football players to achieve, and now he has scored his 200th goal with the Portugal national team after he scored in his last game and at the same time the goal was the winning goal for Portugal . This player who is currently playing in the Arab League with Al Nassr is extraordinary.

Since the beginning of match apparently Iceland was aiming draw result from this match because they had displayed defensive style game and probably they were realized it's hard for them to beat Portugal and you can see it from their statistics that Iceland only have 28% ball possessions and Iceland can able to managed their defense until 88 minutes but indeed everything looks different when Willumsson got the red card that Portugal can easily to penetrate their defensive lines which make Ronaldo can able to scored goal and bringing Portugal to collect 3 points from this match and after this result Portugal has 12 points from 4 matches and they got first place with 2 points difference above to Slovakia
Admittedly, this time Portugal felt very confused about breaking into Iceland's goal and they were only able to do it in the final minutes. But Iceland also appeared confident and they were quite sure that this defensive strategy could at least make Portugal feel frustrated to be able to score goals against them.

On the other hand, it's no wonder that the game was so hot this time because so many yellow cards have been issued by the referee and it also proves that Iceland often commits fouls to Portuguese players to stop attacks. But losing one player can change everything that has been built and that is what Iceland is experiencing. I think without any doubt Portugal will qualify for the next round by winning Group J later.

I watched the Moldova-Poland match yesterday and I'm still in a bit of a shock after what happened in the second half of the match. In the first half, as expected, Poland dominated, fully controlled the game, and 2 goals scored is the lowest penalty for Moldova. The Moldovan players came close to the Poles' penalty area only twice, but did not even shoot at the goal. In the second half, the Polish players were probably on vacation. Fatal mistakes in defense (2 assists are basically Polands plays), ineffectiveness in the attack and a visible lack of commitment made Moldova score 4 goals (one not recognized by the referee, in my opinion wrongly) turned the tide of the meeting and won a historic victory.

Bosnia's loss to Luxembourg was completely unexpected. And it is the same Luxembourg that went down against Portugal by a margin of 0-6. Perhaps their overdependence on Edin Džeko is becoming a disadvantage now and younger players are not filling the vacuum left by the retiring ones. At this point, they are at 4th position in Group J, behind Portugal, Slovakia and Luxembourg. Iceland has also disappointed so far in the same group. Out of their 4 matches, they have been able to win just 1. Looks like Portugal and Slovakia will qualify to the next round, as there is not much opposition from the other teams.

But even when the times are over when any team should be underestimated, this was still a home game for Bosnia against Luxembourg and Luxembourg had an even number of shots on target.

But there is an exciting situation for Luxembourg now. I think for the first time it is possible for them to make it top 2. They have the home game against Slovakia and tied their away game against them. If they collect the points against Iceland and Liechtenstein and perhaps achieve one more surprising result, the game against Slovakia could decide about either them or Slovakia achieving the qualification and I believe that it will be hard for Slovakia to beat Luxembourg in that game.

Portugal' performance in the face-off against Iceland left much to be desired. We had envisioned a more assertive outcome, hadnt we? Yet, Cristiano Ronaldo came through in the dying minutes. He never fails to keep us on tenterhooks

The anxiety during the VAR assessment was akin to a prolonged suspense sequence, right? But, the goal was confirmed, and Ronaldo sealed his 200th match with a victory. Doesnt that encapsulate a true master? Commendations to his illustrious 20-year journey

But here's the burning question - can Portugal persist in depending on Ronaldo' flair when their all-around finish needs major improvement?

Belgium got a very comfortable win against Estonia just as expected. Lukaku put on a good show with 2 goals. However yeah this isn't an indicator that Belgium have improved their general effort. Their group is quite an easy one here in the qualifiers stage. They might be likely to finish it behind Austria though but it would still be enough to carry them to Euro 2024.

But the problem is they don't look like they can be a great title contender there. There is still a long time period to talk about it maybe. But since the World Cup there isn't much change we can see now. Belgium have had a  wonderful generation to make use of with winning multiple titles. But in-team personal issues between the players turned everything into a nightmare for this team. There are still players who don't talk to each other as far as I know.

Yeah, I just read the news yesterday about the problems in the Belgium national team. Their goalkeeper made a statement saying that their coach gave out a private conversation that they had. If that is true, it's a disaster for the team. The team (club or national team) should be above personal grudges because that kind of stuff can really ruin the morale and once a great team can start playing very badly.

In recent years, Belgium had a great team, with some of the best footballers in the world, such as Courtois, De Bruyne, Hazard or Lukaku, but apart from third place at the World Cup in Russia after a great victory against Brazil in the quarter-finals, they did not really achieve any great international success.
It seems that the "golden generation" of Belgium is slowly leaving without achieving the result that everyone expected from them.
I wondered why this was so and it seems to me, after this affair between Courtois and the coach, that I understand why.
You can have great individuals in the team, but without team spirit and team unity, you cannot achieve the desired result.
Croatia is the best example.
Of the other national teams in these qualifications, I was very pleasantly surprised by Scotland with a great start, and very unpleasant by Serbia and Bosnia.

I really followed that match up and from beginning till when I stopped watching in the second half, Portugal was playing excellent football and the quality of players in the Portugal team is now top notch and I have no option than to admire the team and the way they play. The likes of Bruno in the midfield and excellent Silva in the right wing playing flawlessly.  Then on the left win is Rafael Leo with amazing talents. Ronaldo being the top man. I mean all the wings we're good but they lacked the ability to score goals which I attribute to the good defensive patten from opposition.

There were a lot of surprises yesterday... Luxembourg turned out to be one of them... But I was also surprised by Moldova's games against Poland and Bulgaria's against Serbia... I didn't expect Moldova to be able to make such a comeback and win... But the Serbs also barely managed to draw... Portugal were also lucky that Ron scored a goal in the final minutes...

Poland losing against Moldova is the biggest surprise in this qualification period. I don't believe that anyone would put some money on Moldova winning, especially not after they were losing 2-0. I really expected favorites to win yesterday, but that didn't happen. I guess it's football - you can always count on an upset.
It was a big blow for the Polish football team as they suffered defeat against Moldova in their Euro 2024 qualifier match. The first half Poland lead with a 2-0 score-line, but things turn in the second half, because Poland lost by 2-3 to Moldova. The loss was unexpected because Poland is currently ranked 23rd, while Moldova is ranked 171. This is football, favorites rarely fail, but this just goes to show that anything can happen on the given day.

England are very dominant in their group now. They even defeated Italy away as well. I think we can already assume they will finish the group as the leader. This win over North Macedonia by 7-0 isn't surprising at all. There is a huge quality gap and England just showed it in action. Saka's hat-trick was really lovely to watch and Kane also played solid as always. The qualifiers stage is easy for them maybe but they need to keep this up in the main tournament as well. Because they have no titles achieved in a Euro tournament in their history.

In fact this team have such a capacity to win this tournament. They have a squad full of very skilled players. It is all about management as a result. Southgate has been managing them since 2016 but there is still no achievement. If he fails again I think they should start over with a new coach.

Just to be clear, if you think they're winning a trophy with Southgate as manager then, that's the area you get it all wrong. ( Yeah I know you didn't say so )
Garreth Southgate is the another Harry Maguire, they have nothing to offer, they're just being protected. They have a great squad but they can't win because they don't have a good shepherd to lead the sheep's. ( This ain't bout sheep's )

Great game yesterday by the way, beautiful goals and good team work. It's a game you can predict the end evens before the kick off.
In thr first half, they just lacked creativity, wasn't comfortable with the usage of Alexander Arnold as a midfielder. Southgate no different from these half baked coaches in Africa.Super Saka, Harry Kane and the rest of the squad...... Fantastic!

This is exactly my point yeah. They need a good shepherd indeed. I don't want to believe that England board can't just convince any solid coach to manage them. It feels like impossible when I think how capable squad they have. It is just full of world star players I mean. Hence I think they have been doing it on purpose. They just don't care about having a World Cup or a Euro title very much. They just don't want to fail big time with a squad like this in hand.

However I believe this must change in the near future immediately. I assume the fans also want to experience the feeling of being champions. The only title won by England is the 1965/66 World Cup title.  Sad

So I did not check all the games yesterday but seeing that great recovery from Moldova made me think a lot,how come a team who was completely dominated by Albania 3 days ago where they lost 2-0 in just three days to get the power needed to come back from 0-2 to 3-2 against a team that is the contender for qualifying.Things have changed a lot and dramatically in group E now as Poland is in 4th place and not that many games remain plus they have a strong game in Albania in September and also one game at home against the leader of the group Czech where in these games they may as well lose points.I think Santos their coach should be sacked for that disastrous result yesterday.

Well.. Poland is not one of the strongest teams from UEFA. Apart from Robert Lewandowski and Wojciech Szczęsny I don't even know any of their players. But it was an amazing fight-back from Moldova. After trailing by 0-2 during half-time, they scored three goals in the second half to get 3 points from this match. Now it is going to be a three-way or four-way fight between the top teams to qualify to the final tournament. Apart from Faroe Islands, all the other teams in Group E has a chance of qualifying. Next round will be crucial though.

The sensational defeat of Poland, most likely after the goals of Milik and Lewandowski, the Polish team decided that the match had already been won and Moldova was not able to win back such an advantage. But the second half turned out to be completely different, Nicolaescu's two goals changed everything, and at the end of the match, Modova scored the winning goal. Now the situation in the group is amazing, in not the strongest group Poland is only in fourth place with three points, the team plays poorly in away matches...
