There wasn't many surprising results in this round, but we can see some interesting outcomes. Dinamo Minsk were kicked out by Liepaja, Tobol got eliminated by club from Luxembourg, Hajduk Split surprisingly lost to Gzira (club from Malta) at home and got eliminated, Kilmanrock got eliminated by club from Wales.
Next round we will see some big clubs joining competition like Espanyol, Wolves or Torino.
@buwaytress, I was thinking about Legia over 3.5 bet on this game, but decided to skip this match. Seems it was good decision.

It's really big surprise that Hajduk lost to Gzira.
All Gzire players have value as one Hajduk player, Caktas.
It is true that Hajduk has not had great results for a long time in Croatia and Europe but still it is a club with a centennial tradition and many magnificent results in history, a lot of championship titles and cup winners in the former Yugoslavia, semi final in UEFA cup 1984. etc.
A saying that today everyone knows how to play football, and that no one should be underestimated, proved to be correct.

@logfiles I know. It was a sucker bet and had that written all over it, but after the sending off I suppose we should be impressed they kept the scoreline so "respectable!" Wink

@LTU: Indeed, you avoided a pothole. Last night's rounds were full of goals though. I'm actually undecided about who to back this season. Glad Chelsea won't be playing (unless they drop down from CL) and I actually think Wolves have a great shot... I really want to see an outsider win it, be nice to see their face in 2020 CL.

I've got a crazy bet on Europa FC to win at 42/1. They're up against old Polish giants Legia Warsaw but they're away after a scoreless first leg but this is good so they know even 1 goal means they have the advantage, it means they will look to counter when Warsaw attack to save face.

It'll probably end up as a thrashing but I like 42/1. GO GIBRALTAR!

Any other upsets? Aberdeen needed a penalty to level things up at 1-1, they could very well lose if they let in another goal. I fancy Rejkavik at home also hosting Molde. These are just about the extent of how familiar I am with these teams haha.

Crazy bet it is indeed. At 55 minutes right now and Legia Warsaw are having a 2 goal lead.
What is making matter worse is that Europa FC's centre back Sergio Jimenez Sanchez has been red carded. Europa FC is in for a thrashing.
Sorry mate.

I had a feeling since yesterday that not all favourites will win because of a long history that this is not happening.Days like the old ones where in Champions League all favourites used to win easily.Yesterday very low odds like Hapoel Beer Sheva with 1.35 did not win together with many others.

As DarkDays points out, and as others constantly say, yes, these are minnows, but a lot of clubs have rich history, not just the Liverpools and the Ajaxs and the Bayerns. My own local club in my eyes has such a rich vein of history, even though we have only a few honours to our name. I remember the players, the coaches, the games, even if not many do.

I think even Trofo or someone else once said it is still possible to find great games and great clubs with huge atmospheres in the less fancied stadiums and I totally agree. Remember what an impression the Icelandic fans had at World Cup? I bet you, if a minnow like Europa FC make it to group stages, cue scenes of delirium in Gibraltar.

BTW, my pick of Shamrock Rovers did themselves proud didn't they? I still lost the bet but hey, 2 away goals!

@LTU see how hard it is for favs to win? Of your 6 picks, THREE failed to win!

Lol... Europa FC?
Which country is that time from?
Never heard of that team before
Did they just name their team for the purpose of just Europa League? Grin
They are from Gibraltar. I don't knowe history of their name, but now I see that they are playing against Legia and result is 0:0 at 65 minute. Draw in this game would be big sensation.

According to Wikipedia "The club was founded in 1925. It was continuously active up to 1970. The club merged with College in the 1980s, going by College Cosmos until 2013, and in 2014 split again from College, changing from College Europa back to Europa FC, while College 1975 entered the Gibraltar Second Division. The name change was cleared by UEFA and the Gibraltar Football Association has granted back the honours the club lost when it folded initially." so clearly the club has a lot of history and pride assosicated with its name. Look at some of the records from 1960's .. pretty impressive at the time.

You are betting on the favourites and I think the games you have bet are all with big difference between the teams playing.I hope you win your big parlay but it is almost impossible for all the games you have played to be wins otherwise sport betting sites would suffer heavy damage in the amount of money lost. Also history has shown that when a lot of games are to be played never all the favourites have won.
No, it wasn't parlay. It would be fastest way to lose money. And as I see, I already lost few bets - not the best day so far...

43 matches will be played today in Europa league qualifiers. Mostly we will see smaller and less known teams playing. But I will post few my bets.
Riteriai win vs Klaksvik @1.77, Hapoel Beer Sheva win vs Laci @1.35, Domzale win vs Balzan @1.47, Brann win vs Shamrock Rovers @1.5, Debrecen win vs Kukes @1.38 and Haugesund win vs Cliftonville @1.63.
I'm not going to play with big money today because betting on such games is quite risky and we already saw some big surprises in previous days.

I hardly ever play with big money, and for me big is even $50 to $100! AND I don't post them here either, call me superstitious but I post my beer money bets only. And it's not even really beer money, it's really money I'm prepared to lose. I find the $5 bets are a lot more enjoyable than $50!

On to the games though, I have a hard time making my picks too. Precious little to dig up from the news on team preps from these leagues but I actually chose the underdog in one of yours. Shamrock Rovers are from a scrappy league (Ireland) but they are in the thick of 2nd spot in their league with shitty form, 1 win and 2 losses in the past 5 games.

Brann are in a much better league but are scrambling in 5th and equally poor form. Of course they should have better quality still being in a more competitive league that actually has a Champs League spot haha, but still, luck of the Irish?

This is very correct, this is the sort of games I usually stay away or go through proper research before trying to place a bet or predict them.
When two weak teams play, it's more difficult to choose between them, this stages are pretty tricky.

Imagine a game between Accrington Stanley and Morecambe. Two derby rivals from the underbelly of England's worst performing football leagues. Even though they are hard to predict, it can be fun to watch all the misses these clubs could stack up in a 90 minute game.

I think having the thread every season would be best, and it'll help to keep it clean and reduce the possibility of it turning to a spam thread.

Nah, this is fine. Same thread for as long as possible until one of the mods lock it.

Although it can technically be considered a superthread, all recent conversation appears to be on-topic so I see no reason why it should be ended.

Can we have this as the perma thread or a new one every season?

I'm loathe to open new threads every season, what do you think? Can we have this as the perma thread or a new one every season?

I think one thread per competition and per season is better. It makes things easier to follow.
It might also prevent them from being locked.
Thanks for opening these two new ones.
Yeah usually I would agree with you. But if you take a closer look at this section, either Hilarious or Cyrus are going ham on the lock hammer. Closing down super old or super mega threads (and even some smaller threads).

The last UEFA discussion thread was also locked down. So I think this is the perfect replacement thread in that one's place.

I agree if the European League thread is separate from the champions league. Of course, each thread will have a different discussion because the competition is different. And for every season it seems like there's no need to open a thread anymore. This is my personal opinion  Grin And it is unfortunate that AC Milan cannot compete in the European league this season because there are cases.

@LTU and the rest. OK fine, renamed to Europa League only;) Thanks for the feedback.

@Juggy, well, the Mets Uni team actually won last night, they unfortunately lost progress thanks to Europe's away goal rule so no fairy tale there.

@LTU Yeah in general I like to look for good value in the latter and group stages too, and I generally have good fortune. I especially think when teams meet for the first time, they're unknown entities, and if you have just a tiny bit of knowledge about them, you might know more than the bookies.

Rangers are my darkhorses for this tourney, but not just because Stevie G, they're actually getting better with every game!
