Pretty much a typical Adesanya that will surely get Dricus Du Plessis attention and he got it and so the hype is on, for if that will be a pretty much interesting fight for sure

I guess most of us didn't have a good betting line on that day. Well, that made me feel a little better because I am not alone.  Cheesy
Now in this fight, I really never expected Robert Whittaker to be defeated like this and Dricus Du Plessis really did his research very well against Whittaker and because of Dricus Du Plessis's power on his strikes it is easy for him to knockout Whittaker surely this is a great performance from Du Plessis was really great and the thing is his next opponent is Israel Adesanya this is going to be great a new fight for Izzy is going to be phenomenal,
Here I am not going to end up betting for the underdog but I will surely bet for the Israel Adesanya. I just wish the lines will be pretty enough for a profit.
Dricus Du Plessis already had something to say against the champion Adesanya.
Quote
“He’s behaving like a clown in there. That’s not how a champion behaves. That’s not at all how a man behaves. He’s behaving like a child. Conduct yourself like a champion. There’s people looking up to you, and you’re behaving like that. If that sells tickets, good for him. I’ll sell tickets in my way. I’m a gentleman, I’m a man, and I’ll behave like a man.”
https://www.mmafighting.com/2023/7/9/23788572/dricus-du-plessis-israel-adesanya-behaved-like-a-clown-at-ufc-290-adesanya-responds
Early marketing, I like it. This way they can boost the number of pay-per-view sales. Considering it's Adesanya, there's no doubt he can pull a lot of customers but Du Plessis might need to do some things to put it in the number 1 trend.

Meanwhile, Dana White would not care about what happened there especially Adesanya using the N-word in the microphone.
He said, "He is black. I don't give a sh*t."
They surely made it hot so early, I bet many UFC fans now are excited to see this happen as early as possible too but Du Plessis will need his rest first.

Actually, I was amazed from start to finish of the event and I was on the edge of my seat thinking if I could get great winnings this time well it is pretty much not bad, just OK, well I should say the Whittaker was a true upset just like what I have said Du Plessis was really going to their plan a good listener to his corner that is why he wins the fight, the Moreno VS Pantoja fight was a controversial I really don't like what happened with the result, and Lawler put a spectacular last fight of his career, and it was epic, I got to admit I was wrong about Robbie Lawler,

Whittaker lost his opportunity to get a 3rd fight against Izzy. Its never expected that Dricus Du Plessis would win the fight but he did and even took down and pounded Whittaker. Can't say he will not get the next big shot later. But it was said how exposed Whittaker was after Cannonier southpaw stance.

I also thought Yair could make it against Volkanovski. Volkaanovski is just too much for him, you can see how he is overpowered TD is not enough. Overall UFC 290, has lots of good fights with great ends. Congrats to Lawler!

Not gonna lie I bet for Robert Whittaker and he failed me miserably, I got to admit I have gotten so many losses now in the UFC than in the WNBA, but surely even though Whittaker could have won this fight he will get banged up again by Izzy so it is better to be now than to be banged by the champion, and I think another fight maybe a retirement fight for Robert Whittaker just like the Robbie Lawler fight when the UFC will set up another fight for him and a highlight on his last fight aswell, and yes Israel Adesanya VS Dricus Du Plessis is next,

Anyway here are the result of my picks for the UFC 290

Alexander Volkanovski VS Yair Rodriguez ROUND 3 KO/TKO - WIN

Alexander Volkanovski has managed to stop Yair Rodriguez's kicks by switching his stance, it was crazy with simple switching Rodriguez now has a hard time making his kicks, which was in the 1st round, and Volkhave gave Rodriguez a hard time with his striking, but on the 3rd round those kicks really were getting the Volk a hard time in defending those he was always getting caught by it until that right hook landed because, on the 3rd round, Volkanovski is actually memorizing Rodriguez rhythm and combination and that was the time that right hook landed then it became a takedown the strength of Volkanovski then those ground and pound to finish the Mexican fighter on his tracks,

Brandon Moreno VS Alexandre Pantoja ROUND 5 DECISION - LOST

I was really surprised I really thought that Brandon Moreno have won the fight, it was really a close match but Alexandre Pantoja really is a hard-to-beat fighter for sure and we can surely see it in these two fighters' past fights Brandon Moreno really is having a hard time with Pantoja, but in this fight, it was really a close match that we can not see who really won the fight, but it was a very controversial fight that is what I got to say but for me, Brandon Moreno should have won,

Robert Whittaker VS Dricus Du Plessis ROUND 2 KO/TKO - LOST

Now in this fight, I really never expected Robert Whittaker to be defeated like this and Dricus Du Plessis really did his research very well against Whittaker and because of Dricus Du Plessis's power on his strikes it is easy for him to knockout Whittaker surely this is a great performance from Du Plessis was really great and the thing is his next opponent is Israel Adesanya this is going to be great a new fight for Izzy is going to be phenomenal,

Crap, crap, crap.
Lost all three bets.
I was rooting for Yair Rodriguez to knock out Volk but what happened is the other way around.  Grin

Here are the results of the UFC 290.
Alexander Volkanovski versus Yair Rodriguez - Volkanovski won thru TKO/KO
Brandon Moreno versus Alexandre Pantoja - Pantoja won by decision.
Robert Whittaker versus Dricus Du Plessis - Whittaker won by KO/TKO in Round 2.

I hate losing but damn that's some powerful performance from Volk. The strategy was simple, put down Yair and let the fight be taken on the mat with Volk above him. It's a very simple plan and yet a hard task on how he could prevent Yair from standing again. He definitely dominated Yair there.
Obviously, there's still a lot of room for improvement for Yair, especially on those takedown defenses and how he could defend himself once someone is above him.
It's a loss but so entertaining. Congratulations to those who bet for Volk.
Damn! there are a lot of underdog wins in this card by not the main card Pantoja and Du Plessis, upset but there are also clear and unclear unset in this fight the Brandon Moreno VS Alexandre Pantoja is an unclear upset because the fight was super close and I can not really determine who's really win I need to see the fight again actually, and a true unset was the Dricus Du Plessis VS Robert Whittaker fight was a true upset, Dricus Du Plessis really is studying Whittaker and getting ready on whatever Whittaker could throw at him.
Preliminary bouts results and they were all good and some have said the greatest UFC event of the year:

It was one of the best events ever with so many upsets but it was a tough one to bet on this fight weekend.
But it was quite entertaining for any fan of the UFC and I haven't heard of any complaints of the quality of the fights.
So many first round knock outs and two performances of the night:
Denise Gomes received performance of the night with her 20 second KO of a heavy favorite which I lost the first leg of my parlay on. But it was enjoyable for me the rest of the night with the rest of the main card.
Dricus Du Plessis also received a performance of the night for beating another heavy favorite being Whittaker.
Very choice words in the post-fight interview when Adesanya made several intentions of disrespecting the winner of the match with a face-off in the middle of the octagon.

Fight of the night was certainly Alexandre Pantoja beating Brandon Moreno and it wasn't really known who had won until the judges split decision came in:
https://www.mmafighting.com/2023/7/9/23788517/ufc-290-results-alexandre-pantoja-ekes-out-split-decision-over-brandon-moreno-claim-flyweight-title

Many questioned the scorecards of course after the decision was made:
https://www.mmamania.com/2023/7/9/23788357/ufc-290-scorecards-moreno-pantoja

Think Dan Hooker bout was a really good fight because he had bleach blonde hair before the fight but was bloody red by the end of it so you know it was a battle.
He said his arm was broken at some point and had a photo of him in the hospital with the guy who gave it to him in a tweet showing his xray of the arm as well:
https://www.mmafighting.com/2023/7/9/23788552/dan-hooker-reports-broken-wrist-in-ufc-290-win-celebrates-in-hospital-with-jalin-turner

Volk was Volk and didn't want to bet on the main event as it was a lock for the belt to stay with the champ who is going to have shoulder surgery but the rematch with Islam Makhachev from the sounds of it does look to be still going forward as scheduled later this year:

The result of my bet on UFC 290

Alexander Volkanovski VS Yair Rodriguez - WIN

Alexander Volkanovski has proven that he is the real deal and the number 1 Featherweight in this fight he really did a masterful class performance in this fight, in the 1st round in preparation for Yair Rodriguez's kicks he was switching from orthodox to southpaw, continuously this will surely mess Rodriguez momentum with his kicks his preparation and with that he capitalized with it to disrupts Rodriguez kicks, and we can see Volkanovski's strength when he takedown Rodriguez and controls him to the ground, and when Rodriguez is going with a triangle choke Volkanovski is one step ahead of Rodriguez he even defended it knowing Rodriguez every move, and so Volkanovski finishes him to the ground, a truly masterful class performance indeed,

Brandon Moreno VS Alexandre Pantoja - LOST

Just like I have said this is going to be a close fight for sure Brandon Moreno is great but it was not like in their 1st match Pantoja was really giving it to Moreno but in this fight Brandon Moreno making the fight a close one for me Moreno really improve but again the fight was close and there is a certain controversy about who really win but for me, Alexandre Pantoja won because of the judges it was a split decision for me it should be a draw because both fighters have shown their craft, but Moreno got to crack on the 1st round his chin is giving up on him now and he can feel it but still it was a close match for sure,

Robert Whittaker VS Dricus Du Plessis - LOST

Dricus Du Plessis has done his homework and he is studying Robert Whittaker, in what to land and when he will punch him, I really think Jared Cannonier has exposed Whittaker on that straight right but Du Plessis just execute it with Finesse it is much more effective while he is executing it, and we can see that Du Plessis power with his striking that rocks Whittaker, and even though Whittaker has the fight IQ he needs Du Plessis is doing his homework and executing it in full detail,

What I see in the Main Event was a great fight for Volkanovski he have shown a simple technique but it was very effective against Yair Rodriguez you can say that Volk outsmart Rodriguez in this one, but for sure he has done a great job in making a win but Alexander Volkanovski was way ahead of him,

No on the Co-Main Event, it was really a controversial one one judge just ruins it all, giving all to Pantoja, but it was a close match indeed and I think this needs to be seen through and makes an effort to check what really happen, I may bet for Alexandre Pantoja but seeing the fight it should be checked,

Alexander Volkanovski vs Yair Rodriguez - LOST

Man! what a fight I really thought that Yair Rodriguez's height may come in handy with his wrestling and takedown defense but I never expected Volkanovski to throw Rodriguez to the ground and move him near the cage to pin Yair down, and Volkanovski is so much for Yair Rodriguez he surely doesn't know what he is going to do with Volkanovski, on this fight, well, after this fight what is next for Volkonovski, maybe an Ilia Topuria fight, perhaps for me that is a great fight to behold and we can see who had the better boxing, for me I am really excited just thinking of it,

Brandon Moreno VS Alexandre Pantoja - WIN

A close match for sure for me I have seen a controversial decision fight for this one, but I can not say that Brandon Moreno won the fight or Pantoja won it aswell, all I say is this fight needs to be accessible, and needs further investigation, it was a very close fight that I even give a draw for a result, and that is how I can surely say that this fight is super close, for sure,

Robert Whittaker VS Dricus Du Plessis - LOST

For me, Dricus Du Plessis really deserves a title shot next after defeating Robert Whittaker one of the best fighters in the Middleweight and surely Du Plessis one of the hardworking fighters for me after this fight Israel Adesanya needs to take precautions for sure because Dricus Du Plessis is not going to be an easy task for him a dude that will surely open up about his opponent opening and secrets and using that knowledge at his disposal what a shock that we have this kind of a dude in the UFC but he has done a great job in defeating the gatekeeper,

Nice game I will say, Moreno was obviously the favorite of the fight but it wasn’t supposed to happen easily for him, that was just an Upset but I never for once felt Volk will loose the fight for any reason let alone being knocked out technically or any way at all, Volk is very defensive, technically and strong enough to outsmart Yair’s kick tactics.... Volk deserved the win though, in mg opinion.

My Bet and prediction for the upcoming UFC 290

Alexander Volkanovski VS Yair Rodriguez

The odds for this fight are 1.28 for Volkanovski and 4.10 for Rodriguez, for this fight, Alexander Volkanovski surely will be very technical in this fight, and by all means, he needs to be careful in making mistakes but for me, I got high hopes in his boxing for sure, he just needs to take care of unexpected kicks from Yair Rodriguez and when it comes to wrestling for sure Alexander Volkonovski is one genius on defense as he showcases it against Islam Makhachev, for me, Yair also got a chance in winning when his kicks connected in the unexpected situation, I think this is going to be a banger I don't see that this is going to be onesided, and I got a bad feeling on this fight but for me on paper Volkonovski will win this so my pick is for Alexander Volkanovski,

Brandon Moreno VS Alexandre Pantoja

The odds for this fight are 1.50 for Moreno and 2.85 for Pantoja, this is going to be another banger but this going to be a back-and-forth fight as we can see Alexandre Pantoja had a history over Brandon Moreno and Pantoja already win 2 times against Moreno, but I have seen an interviewing Brandon Moreno that he isn't really that pressure going against Alexandre Pantoja, for this fight this is going to be a close match we can see a really entertaining fight like the Jiri Prochazka VS Glover Teixeira fight or the Alexander Volkanovski VS Islam Makhachev fight kind of entertaining, but I am going into the more focus Brandon Moreno,

Robert Whittaker VS Dricus Du Plessis

The odds for this fight are 1.28 for Whittaker and 4.20 for Du Plessis, Now this fight Dricus Du Plessis surely got power in his shots, and man it's going to go down to getting Robert Whittaker to be one shot by Du Plessis because Whittaker doesn't have a great chin but Robert Whittaker is way too fast for Dricus I think Whittaker will be very technical in this fight for sure we could surely see a banger and because of that many shots from Robert Whittaker and because of that strike output he can knockout Dricus Du Plessis, so my pick is for Robert Whitaker

There were somethings to take note after the weigh-ins happened last night:
Jack Della Maddalena vs Josiah Harrell has been cancelled due to the former having a test and he is not fit to fight:
https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/37975720/newcomer-josiah-harrell-ufc-290-brain-disease

Edgar Chairez who was a replacement fighter for Tatsuro Taira made catch weight so his result for the weigh-ins passed.

Jalin Turner missed weight by two pounds during the weigh-ins. Fight will commence as scheduled.

Nice one sharing it so that everyone will know that there are canceled fights right now, and they will avoid betting on those fights it is just too bad for Jack Della Maddalena after his first cancellation against Sean Brady now his replaced opponent now had a medical issue can his fight is totally canceled now, it was a bad take for Jack Della Maddalena, Tatsuro Taira is now good that his opponent Jalin Turner is good to go, this is a good share for sure

Now my picks for the UFC 290 and I think I will go with most of the underdogs

Alexander Volkanovski vs Yair Rodriguez

This is going to be a close fight for sure Alexander Volkanovski is a technical fighter, but so is Yair Rodriguez, well we all know that Alexander Volkanovski will win this on paper if you would look on paper it is likely Volk to win but for me, this is going to be a close match and like everyone said if whoever made a mistake then he will likely have a disadvantage, and Alexander Volkanovski also said that Yair Rodriguez surely is dangerous that kicks and unpredictable moves but he will be prepared for Yair Rodriguez and so I think we can see an upset here so my pick is Yair Rodriguez,

Brandon Moreno vs Alexandre Pantoja

These two have fought 2 times, now and Alexandre Pantoja pretty much has an epic history over Brandon Moreno, while for me I think this will be a very close match for sure both of these guys sure are well-rounded and I think the UFC really wants a great fight and I think this is a great fight to watch for sure and this fight will be an epic one and for me risking it on the underdog, for sure there could be a great performance that may happen and I can surely feel it, but I am going with the Underdog and my pick is Alexandre Pantoja

Robert Whittaker vs Dricus Du Plessis

Now for these fights, Robert Whittaker is a masterful class boxer, for sure this could be a great fight to watch while Dricus Du Plessis is a brawler for me his strength on his striking is massive, and surely Du Plessis hit like a truck I hit from it and goodbye to Whittaker and Robert Whittaker doesn't have a good chin that could withstand the punch of Du Plessis but what Whittaker had that got him the odd advantage was his speed and fight IQ, he could outspeed the guy with a barrage of punches and the technicality on this strikes surely in a Whittaker fashion, with a good takedown defense because Dricus is a wrestler aswell and could take the fight to the ground, but for me my pick for this fight is Robert Whittaker,

Call me crazy but I am going for the underdog this time on the main event and crossing my fingers that he could KO Volkanovski too.
It is a bold prediction, there is no denying that Yair Rodríguez is talented with his unorthodox style as it is really unpredictable how he attacks but Alexander Volkanovski is a different breed in the 145 pound division as he can easily take on any challenger in his division and no one could out strike him nor anyone could knock him out cold and he could even win against the elite fighters in 155 pound division, so always going with Alexander Volkanovski.

It's challenging but it's doable for Yair to win.
I am actually thinking the same that Yair might be able to defeat a top fighter like Volkanovski. His kicks will be his best tool to immobilize Alex. He needs to block the counter from Alex every time he uses his legs and knees to attack. Once he will be takendown by Alex however, he will be dominated, it's a small chance of Yair getting back on his feet.

So yup good luck trying out the underdog @danherbias07 I think it will be a split decision by Yair. This is if Yair lasts 5 rounds.

UFC 290 Bets and Prediction

Alexander Volkanovski VS Yair Rodriguez

Yair Rodriguez is a cool guy actually I really want the way he fights just like watching Anime and action movies with all the kicks but this is reality and Rodriguez is applying it smoothly with his fights, but the thing that I don't like about Yair Rodriguez is that style would surely cause a lot of mistakes and Volkanovski could capitalize on that and I can not trust his stamina those wild kicks and movement would likely require a lot of stamina I I often times seeing him catches his breath on his fights sometimes on the last rounds, and Alexander Volkanovski's fight IQ is amazing if you see his fight against Islam Makhachev that is superb even though he lost he showed that Makhachev can not bully him on the ground and that is outstanding,

Brandon Moreno VS Alexandre Pantoja

This is going to be a revenge fight for Brandon Moreno back on their fight on May 19, 2018, and right now Brandon Moreno had said that he was very confident going to the fight, and for me this is going to be a banger of a fight a close fight for sure both of these guys are well-rounded for sure in terms of striking and the ground but for me, Brandon Moreno really has the heart and he will never back down to this for me I like Brandon Moreno even more so my pick is Brandon Moreno,

Robert Whittaker VS Dricus Du Plessis

Dricus Du Plessis has average boxing and he got strength with his striking he also got good grappling and ground game but for me, Robert Whittaker has superior in striking particularly boxing with a mix of kicks and when it comes to his fight IQ he has superb in that part, and good takedown defense, I don't know what to say but I see Robert Whittaker just like Alexander Volkanovski, and what can I say they both appear as our favorite wrestler as Stone Cold Steve Austin for Volk and The Hulk Hogan for Whittaker, for sure I think that Robert Whittaker could win this for sure so my pick will be Robert Whittaker,

Forgetting about the Abus bet.
Moving on...

Call me crazy but I am going for the underdog this time on the main event and crossing my fingers that he could KO Volkanovski too.

After watching all the highlights of Yair it made me decide to bet for him.

He likes taking the TKO or KO and not submission, the way he fought Rosa was a living proof of that, he is in full mount and yet he still wants a stand-up battle. The same goes for other fighters that he fought although he finished his last fight against Josh Emmett with a submission because he was forced to do it while being in a tough spot. I also think he is just adding more flavor to become more unpredictable and this is where Volk should be careful.

This is going to be fun. Place your bets guys and good luck.

For me, Yair Rodriguez has proven himself and with this fight, even Volkanovski has said that the kid has potential if Alexander Volkanovski have made a mistake in this fight a likely Yair Rodriguez could get the Win, Volk have surely lessen those mistakes and if Yair is the one that made some mistake which is most likely because of those kicks that could get him out balanced Volkanovski could get that opening, but likely I have seen those highlights of Yair Rodriguez and I was really amazed because he got a unique style that he surely hones for many years in his MMA career, for me Boxing and the ground game was Volkanovski's weapon for Yair but Rodriguez advantage could be a main key in winning aswell and that is his kicks range and height,

Brandon Moreno likely has a huge fight IQ that could capitalize on his opponent's style I see Alexandre Pantoja also had some expertise which mostly is rear naked choke which I think Brandon Moreno will likely swayed aside the wresting defense of Moreno is on par with the Volk, but if Alexandre Pantoja only could show is Rear Naked Choke, that will be easily defended by Moreno for sure,
