Just watching this match at the moment and it is a boring on. No goals.
Hope you didn't put a winner in regular time or on goals, because I don't see this one being settled until penalties as those normally decide a winner for these finals.
You were correct. We made it to the final and were eliminated on penalties for the second time!! Only the main card of the UFC would make my weekend right now if everything goes according to plan. I'm too tired to watch the entire fight!!

Let's see if Igehhh selections manage to hit!
It's being a bad weekend after all.

I might actually tune in this weekend actually. Only got the one football game to watch (FA Cup final) and if I lose that bet, then I'm going to probably not sleep well. And the following day I have a huge 4 hours to myself, would feel like a long break from domestic duties.

Of course, if I can manage to stay up to 4am that would be a minor miracle these days.

Don't forget the predictions posted above.

Anyways, back to the UFC at hand.
In about six hours we will have UFC in vegas so here are the matches and odds:

I see Blachowicz is the underdog for the main event @2.65x
I will take him to win it early either by KO or submission.

Let's see if Igehhh selections manage to hit!

This weekend we have Jan Blachowicz up against Aleksandar Rakic and looking to get his belt back from Glover Teixeira :

Should be a heavy hitting bout for the main event at the Apex in Las Vegas.

I don't see how 1/2 a pound can make the different since they are not heavyweights.
The weight difference was very marginal but many have defended it because of crossing the line when it comes to what is deemed okay and what is not.
Why the UFC are still using scales from the past are beyond me and should be digital as with everything else in life when accuracy is the decision maker.

Fights proceed even if they miss weight. Title fights like this one there isn't any leeway for them to be a 1/2 pound off but for non-title fights they are.
They are allowed to fight but have part of their purse demonetized as a fine for doing so.
He entered into the ring as still the championship holder but as soon as the fight started the title was vacant.
It is strange how the do this, but it is hot they do it.
Chandler's knock out performance was the highlight of the night for many who was in attendance.
That was career ending for Tony for sure and do not think we will see him fight again being his fourth straight loss in a row.
McGregor coming back to fight with that call out would be hilarious.

Okay I get it now that kind of makes sense in a way,,, I guess in boxing (not MMA) it is a bit more strict right since I always remember fights getting called off just because they could not make the weigh in. I think a penalty system is much more important since they will lose actual money if not making weight.

But one thing,,, the opponent is disadvantaged if the weight is not lesser than expected. Should the opponent also be rewarded for getting like a handicap?

Wow nice call rdbase on Charles getting a very quick win, all done in 1 round. I do not understand though you said earlier he did not make the weight,,, so why did the match proceed?

Anyway after match now he and Chandler calling for McGregor. Of course it is all staged but the fans love it all the more  Grin

Right, so early Olieviera win, pretty big upset on Rose (the odds were 1.2 IIFC), spectacular KO for my pick Ferguson, in general, not a great weekend for my picks.

Hope not on a wayward path here (and I'm really unsure as I see MMA tags and boxing tags, even UFC tags in some of the news reports am seeing, maybe someone can share a link that explains all the differences and paths because I actually can't locate one) but whoever chose Bivol in the prediction special should be pretty pleased -- whomever chose an all out Bivol should be even happier (most punches).

I did choose him, but went for a more balanced selection and apparently, reports I'm reading are also surprised it went to unanimous when all judges went for Alvarez in the first 4 rounds.

Unbelievable scene I predicted Charles would submit in the second round, but it came earlier than expected because Justin was too easy for him lol. I was expecting a good fight, not what I just witnessed; how did Charles calculate every Justin kick? Man Charles is simply an unbeatable fighter who can choke you out at any time. It was a great night, but I went home empty-handed. My mistake was adding Rose to my Acca; she was too boring to watch, and she arrived unprepared, giving me one of the most boring fights. I had high hopes for her.

So they left Tony in the cage after that super KO kick, and he slept the entire time; he was having a good night before that.  Cheesy

Edit

Some unbelievable mistake by Charles happened during the weigh-ins:
Oliveira missed weight so the championship title is vacant.
Here is the official rundown video right after the scales showed the overweigh and an official spokesperson telling what will happen next for the title shot:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qikiwiF0pzU

Posted on ESPN who now organizes the UFC fights broadcasted globally:
https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/33867817/charles-oliveira-stripped-lightweight-belt-failing-make-weight-ufc-274

The odds for Oliveira have gone up to 1.65x from the 1.55x it was before the weigh-in happened.

Just as Igehhh has mentioned it is a coin flip on who could win for the main event.
I don't disagree with him there.
Charles when backed in a corner can be like a snake and before you know it has you wrapped in a submission hold.

UFC 274: Pre-Fight Press Conference is happening very soon and there are many who are in the live comment section voicing their favorites to win:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Sl36zdb9co
Lol Charles won the staredown; did you notice Justin's fear and nervousness? Charles is probably going to put him to sleep because he looked lost even before the game began, and I just watched someone who won't last more than two rounds.

The queen of rematch Rose always gets her way I'm putting my money on her as well.
Oliveira always has the best staredowns during these junkets and doesn't ever backdown from them.
And yes, you do see the fear in his eyes. Cause nobody likes to get choked out.
Justin shitted himself. Lol. The only way Charles can lose is if he becomes overconfident and less ambitious; if Khabib can submit Justin, Charles, who is even better, will do it as soon as possible; it's going to be a ground grabbing fight...

igehh somebody should make a stats page of how many people who won staredowns also won the match. Interesting?? Wink
Being so confident gives you an advantage because it instills fear in your opponent, making them feel lost even before the fight begins. I can't provide such statistics because I only watch main events and am not a regular UFC fan.

@leea-1334: That is how it is with a majority of those who watch the fights in the UFC.
It is all about the thrill of the fight card. Don't necessarily need to have a bet on each and every fight. I usually bet on the prelims and don't even touch the main card bouts because they were either too hard to decide the winner, just as with this weekend's main event with Oli and Gaet.
But I will put my money on Nama just like igehhh has only because it is fun to put money on the one just before the main event.
And well.. It is Thug Rose!
Always entertaining to watch her cause you don't know how she will finish her opponent. Very crafty girl when she gets in the octagon.

If you liked staredowns then I would suggest waiting for the weigh-ins (the Ceremonial one is better) starting in about 12 hours from now:

Somebody reminded me about this thread,,, I do not really bet on UFC however just play the prediction games and sometimes watch on tv. If you live in Asia and you work late night or are up sometimes the only thing showing if there is no football is UFC or boxing (I cannot tell difference sometimes my mates get so pissed  Grin).

Countdown is about 2 hours but would say closer to 2 3/4 hours to go.

Placing your bets can be done here for all matches after watching the conference:

Both champions who are defending their titles are the favorites this time.

Oliveira was the underdog in his last fight against Poirier even though he held the championship, same with Namajunas.
So the odds for these UFC main event title bouts seem to be fueled by the hype and not necessarily who will/might win.

The buzz surrounding Gaethjes adds to the scheme. I personally believe it's a 50-50 game, but I must admit that if Gaethjes doesn't get the job done in the first round, I don't see him making it out in the second round, Oliveira is going to choke him up and give him a submission, he's such a dirty fighter, don't take him to the ground, you're never going to make it out, he's a submission specialist. Both fighters are excellent, but Oliveira is in his prime and will almost certainly retain his title. I'm betting on Oliv to win by Sub.

Another source of inspiration for Oliveira is the prospect of joining the ranks of the legends, which he aspires to do.

It was media day yesterday so alot of videos on what the fighters had to say prior to the press conference scheduled for later on today.

Here are introduction videos of the each fighter for those not familiar on who they are and who they fought in their last fight:
ESPN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GCbxhAAz48
BT Sports: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D--7xnP-kPg

Found it interesting on getting the American vs the UK media perspectives on who they think might win.

Just love those predictions promos, this time I mixed in my usual picks of heavy-sided underdogs with "narrower" underdogs. For me this time it was an arbitrary 15/10 odds or better to count as a favourite, usually for UFC I'm only picking the fav if they're 12/10 or better. No science behind it...

As a result, favourite Oliveira didn't make my cut as he was just above 15/10, though he seems far more rated in the media.
