yes the key is proper cold.    not too cold  -5 to +5c     or 23f to 40f   good psu  high fan and boom 1700gh is yours.

So who keeps their home that cold?  This is suppose to be a 'home' miner.  I'm looking forward to receiving mine in the next couple of days.  I knew about the loudness of the fan, but didn't realize it doesn't reach the stated speed under 'normal' conditions.  We don't even keep our server rooms lower than 65f.

Oh well, live and learn.  I'll compare them to the S5s when they arrive and decide from there based on $/gh & j/gh what my end of year purchases will be.  Right now, the S5 is leading on the 'expected' $/gh for home mining.

Outside temp is now -2 deg.  I put a drilled metal plate to stop insects or small particles to be sucked from asics.

My record till now is that. Just like is advertised Cheesy

I did a fan mod for 1 sp20.

I pulled the fan out completely and added a silverstone to the external end of the miner.

Are you sticking with a Pull configuration? Have you tried switching to Push, or Push+Pull?

pull and while it is quiet it is not quite correct.

 next will be push- pull

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A460TK6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it allows sound to drop to 60db and run about 1150 vs 1000

I can hash at 1158gh

all temps are good

I tried that fan too, a lot of air gets lost in the gaps, thought maybe using tape to black out the gaps where it overhangs the side of the case.

Thing is, what I have been trying to do is find a fan that lets me run at max TH, as good cooling but with a lot less noise than the stock fan. Its proving difficult to do Sad

yeah this has it quieter and at 1158.

the gap issue can be fixed by a piece of felt.

http://www.amazon.com/Waxman-length-Heavy-Strip-Brown/dp/B000SL29KU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419811188&sr=8-1&keywords=felt+strip

I think if I find a correct push fan maybe this one

http://www.amazon.com/Bearing-NF-F12-iPPC-2000-PWM/dp/B00KFCR5BA/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1419811286&sr=8-7&keywords=noctua+120+fan

I could do 1400 pretty quiet. this is not a big issue for me  but I love to tinker around.

I had these in the house----------after I put that felt on temps dropped on the 2 high ones from 115 to 110

closed two gaps one on each side

db is 60 but there is a lot of ambient noise the room is 52db due to all the fans in the garage.

please excuse my laziness here... I read the first couple pages but didn't see the answer.

Can anyone compare the sound of the SP20 to that of the Antminer S4? I currently have an S4 running and a couple SP20's coming in and want to know if they will be louder than the S4, about the same, or if the S4 will drown them out. For example purposes the S4 will be running on default clock and voltage and so will the SP20.

thank you.

At stock speeds, I would say they're close to the same noise.  That's just based on my hearing, no sound measurements.

Sorry I don't have an s-4 .  if you run these at 1200gh and 40 fan speed  or 1000gh and 15 fan speed via ssh they are okay.  if you run at 1400gh and above with 60 fan speed and above they are loud.

My meter reads 65db at fan speed 15.  the pitch is not a whine it is bearable in an un-used room.

I would not run it watching a tv in the same room.

But if I run an s-3 with a slight down clock to  freq 212  and this fan

I am good to go db under 48

Yes it is.  I have 7 running and 2 on the way. = 9 units  I have 1 s-5 coming it total of 10 pieces and just about 12th in hash.

I want to keep all of them but it is just a little over my power envelope.

Here in New Jersey it reached 62F on tues and the house got really warm 80f .

 This is with 7 x 600 = 4200 watts.

Even though I can provide the 6000 watts to run 10 pieces I am thinking it is just a little more then I should shoot for.

So I offered 1 sp20 for sale on ebay.

 I am hoping to run 7 sp20's and 2 s-5's = 9 pieces

When I look on Spondoolies website for the latest offer it says that if these are reshipped or resold the warranty will be void. Is the warranty nontransferable on this unit as well? I don't blame you on selling the value of these things is dropping like a rock considering they can be had for $500 free shipping if you buy 2.

well if you look at my ebay link you will see I have been in business for 11 years and my reviews actually amaze me.  I have 7 in my house and 2 on the way.  that is 9 I can not run 9 in my home.

So don't you think I would make good to the buyer on ebay?  (yes I would )  I would do an exchange from one of my remaining units.  Then I would talk with spondoolies tech and hope they would help me out.  I now see that they say they would.

Yeah I'm pretty happy with my SP20.

First unit had to be RMA'ed, as it only had 7 out of 8 ASICS going, but even with that, it was pulling 1300 gh/s. They shipped me the new replacement unit as soon as I got a tracking number for the old one, so it was only a couple of days worth of lost hashing.

New unit, is pulling 1500 and change gh/s with 240/240/240/240 W per PCI-E cable, running on a 1000 W power supply.

I have taken it to 1.7 gh/s with 2 different power supplies, 2 x PCI-E cables each, with 270x4, but it loses efficiency.

I'm happy with one power supply feeding it with a slight underclock and underpower.

Would buy one again, but I don't have the power to run all my miners. I'm already running a cable from the garage, and a cable from the other room. Lol !

Sucking down juice from 3 circuits.

yeah and you have the sp20 in a spot that the loud fan works without driving you nuts.(a guess)

which is what the sp20 's biggest annoyance is fan noise.
