First I will say it is not every altcoin that the price is down, some are high considering bitcoin price as at December 2017. But one thing that really caused most of altcoin down is that, those altcoin never have real working product and most investors don't pay attention to them.people believe in those coins that are already made, those coins that have existing product.

All can tell is that any coin in market is not always in green position. Many altcoins relies still on btc blockchain that’s why everytime you see Bitcoin falls many altcoins is down too. Although there are a lot of altcoins independent to btc exchanges already.

I think the current dip is caused by two factors:
1. Binance API fail
2. MtGOX guy selling coins for 400M.
But the marker seems stable around 9K and alts seems to get a slight recover.
Make market go down?
I believe prices have down because the opportunity to have more bitcoins and increase the number of miners of bitcoin
personally, I think if the current market environment is not good and the market is falling. At the same time, bitcoin also fell,

it's mainly because we are in a down trend and as long btc keep going down all altcoins will go along with it . keep in mind that when btc rise like what's happening now , altcoins won't rise as money shit from it to btc . the only scenario where altcoins restore its position is when price of btc stabilize above 8k$ or more.

It is not really a pattern that every mid year the altcoins are always cheap. That is a wrong observation as far as I am concerned. The altcoins are very cheap as of the moment because the market suffered a long time of dumps and panic selling. Although there are green days, the lost value was big enough be recovered easily. But that does not mean that the altcoins are not worth investing. It is best to buy them during these times.
But, that can't be used as a technical analysis. It's just like what happened few years ago when the market is bearish for about 1 whole year or even more.
The demand and supply change the price range of the altcoins and in this time the bitcoin also affect the altcoins and now a days the bitcoin is recovering so it will affect the altcoin market too while the users are always using all the crypto they invest all the time.
