But if we talk about real and existing coins, then the best ones are to choose such as the etherium, because here the potential is quite predictable.

Demand is the most important element for the price to go up. If i see there will be more demand for an altcoin, I analyze the fundamentals, token metrics and price history. If everything looks good, I wouldn't wait so long to invest in it.
I am basing on my experience, if I see the signs that were present in previous successful projects, I consider that they can affect this new project also to be more likely successful.

Its one reason which encourages me to invest in altcoins is that I want to increase my portfolio in bitcoin and altcoins help me to do that but you have to careful because altcoins are a bit risky.

Because there is a lot of potential for growth in altcoins. You have a possibility catch a few hundreds ROI. I mean Bitcoin is good, but why I should invest in BTC and get a 300-500% till the end of year, when I can invest in other altcoins and get a 10-20X? That's the reason why I invest in other coins.
