I read about many projects and many of them are brilliant, a lot of good startups have received financing and investors do not regret that they gave them money, this all leads to the development of technologies
I read first the whitepaper then look for the management team if they are trustworthy. Last thing I look for is vision of project developer it is more on personal judgement but it is important because We all know there's a change that the project will not materialize.
Most important for me is the technology behind a coin or token. I believe only coins with strong basis will survive is long term.

first of all, I'm looking for a promising altcoin that will grow in price in the future.
Pay attention to the team, it seems to me that about 90% of the success of the project depends on this. Check their old work, what kind of people, whether in the industry and what they do. Well, to assess the reality of their work.

I usually invest in altcoin to get profit but i prefer long term profit but the coin should be backed by good project and product not just hype price coin.potential coin neglect the risk of great dump and pump . steady growth is good for a coin.
I invest in alt coins only for one purpose - to make a profit. I am sure that most people came to crypto with the same purpose. If I were a coin developer I would probably have thought otherwise.
Potential of the coin to become successful someday, the darkness lasts only as long as necessary to prepare for the day ahead. 
I invest in coins because I want to earn. Now I do not have a lot of coins, but I see a greater potential for earning altcoins than BTC. They cost less, some have good growth.
The only thing that encourages me to invest in altcoin is the cheap market and that means for me that it is easy to get pump by the manipulator or the whales in the market so if they want to pump the price then they can easily do it because of the cheap market price

Well, for one, there is one token everytime and a lot of them are cheap. Everyone of them is worth the investment and has a lot of potential to moon high and early. Think about it, there far more alt coins than bitcoins in total. So imagine investing $100 in every one of them.
Im investing my time in the airdrops of privacy.This project encourage me to really invest my timeand effort because i really do believe the potential of this project in the market.And ofcourse in Ethereum.
Investing in cheaper altcoins is too risky but the return is exponential once it goes pumping which get me interest to follow some cheap altcoins. You just need to be careful in choosing and attentive to have plan B once the price is in downfall to avoid loses.
Those community supports of the said altcoin encourages me to invest in them.for example, Its so good that ico will be finish in few hours because many people want to buy that, means that coin has a god future. In addition, the team of that projects also helps me to bought their coin mate.
What encourage me most in investing altcoins is its potential for huge and fast growth, altcoins are known to increase as much as 100x in one day, although much more risky due to the fact that there are those coins which just vanish in mid air. I think the key here is study carefully the coin you want to put your money into. For me, I just want to to work in high risk high rewards project, I just like to gamble.

At this moment I am more interested in ICOs and my motivation is selecting good project and if it will have success it is something very exiting. I am looking for updates at www.icoguide.com. besides ICOs do not require a lot investment so I can afford the accompanied risk.
It's also important to watch the coin for a while. Read the bitcointalk, watch the capitalization on coinmarketcap and do your own forcasts.
