It is pretty difficult to know if an ICO is a "good" investment right off the bat. You have to do your research and make a calculated decision whether or not to invest. Look for ICOs that have experience in the particular field in which they operate. Also look into their business plan and what the plan to do after the launch. Knowing as much as you can allows you to make the best decision.

I'm looking to invest in Crowdholding depending on how well their first week goes.

Reasons why:-

Solid team - with top guys from Google, Skype, Oracle. Large team as well with marketers, developers, law and actual financial experts.

White paper solid - Nicely designed, makes sense, numbers all add up, nice minimum threshold and caps, finite amount of tokens

Social media - Strong and interacting with people, their reply to their thread very quickly.

Concept - Makes sense and is actually wanting to do something good for startups and the average person.

All points to a solid good project, expect them to do something!

Website is below

https://ico.crowdholding.com

Hope this helps, happy hunting!

What are some characteristics of a good ICO?

1. Established company, so you know they won't vanish.
2. Legitimate utility behind their idea that requires the blockchain to be realized.
3. Majority of their coins distributed to the public.
4. Reasonable market cap. Think 23 million instead of 250 million
5. Team that is always responsive in the various channels like slack, Telegram, on this forum, etc

To summarize all you have to do is to search every part of the project and analyze them as well as use your common sense. To give you what you need to look up, here it is

1. Check who are behind the project. their past projects, well known areas etc.
2. Check if their goal and concept is realistic
3. Always read their whitepaper and do a due diligence
4. Check if they have an escrow
5. Check every social media sites of them

Some flaws are easy to spot like wrong grammar and bad graphics. if we use our common sense on this then everything involving the particular project should make sense, if not then better drop it.

Firstly look into whether they need an altcoin. That is the most vital factor. There are too many ICO's just creating a coin to have an ICO.

Secondly look into the whitepaper and the team. Most people just focus on the developers and although this is important, also focus on the CEO and other parts. It doesn't matter how good the developers are, if the CEO isn't leading the way it will fail. The whitepaper is the ideology and if that doesn't make sense, it's not a good idea to invest.

Next i look into the website, social media and how interactive they are with potential investors.

If you do all that and still enjoy the project, join a bounty, you will learn more about them and then you can invest.

There are many ICO these days and the best thing to do is to make a research in which ICO is worth to put your money. There are many things to consider the project, the roadmap, the project team, their marketing strategy and also to read their whitepaper. These things could help you a lot in choosing an ICO that is legit.

It's really difficult today to find some interesting and promising ICO for investment. There are so many "empty" projects, which have only idea. But some are real and can bring a good profit. I prefer to invest in projects, which have some the finished products or the development.

First look at the idea: is it something new or there are already plenty of competitors on the market?
Then look at the profile of each member of the team: is there a real Linkedin or social network profile? do they have significant work experience?
Finally, try their MVP: the mvp is generally speaking a reliable indicator of the involvement of the team

What are some characteristics of a good ICO?
A good ICO is ought to have some interesting idea behind it, something unique. Marketing strategy is also important. Website and videos must be of high quality and there got to be mentions on some other website apart from official info. What is also important is a good dev team with experienced people taking care of the project. Finally, it's best if an ICO also has a real project to which is it connected, maybe some contracts with major organizations or something like that.

Absolutely on point with this. It's not all about the website, whitepaper and graphics - but about the thought, scrutiny, business planning, marketing, corporate partners and reason for adoptive growth that makes an investment attractive. It's not about "which ICO to invest in at the moment" as there will always be opportunities. It's about investing in and ICO with legitimacy, good contacts, backing, transparency and full credibility.  Smiley

4. Existing revenues.
5. Growing market. Food traceability market will reach $15.1 Billion by 2021.
6. Emerging markets as main focus. Compound Annual Growth Rate of food traceability is the highest in Asia-Pacific (16.7%) compared to the rest of the world (5.5-8.7%).

Some characteristics are (in no particular order): solid team, concrete idea with realistic goals and token applicability. Be sure to check out Electroneum as it meets those characteristics (and are currently offering a 20% bonus). They also have a good referral program, so you can get a "5% bonus on all ETN purchased by people that you refer to the Token Sale".

Besides Electroneum, Enjin Coin also looks like a solid project. ICO started on October 3rd and has sold over 82% of their tokens available so far (660 million ENJ out of 800 million ENJ).

If you visit their announcement thread and notice that it does not have any negative ratings then they are likely to last a while.
