I think this will never happen at all, although ETH is a good and promising coin, but still Bitcoin is much stronger and more promising
everything is very simple because bitcoin has those properties that ETH can never possess, but Ethereum does not have those properties that bitcoin cannot possess. that's why ETH can never be the first. Just a simple logic  Cool

Then i will support ETH.  Grin Maybe the answer is that simple. Because the question from title is "what if". Any coin that in top, or maybe can make cryptocurrency itself accepted by all people over the world must be supported. If Ethereum be number 1, then we try to make it down under bitcoin, it can make bad affect on crypto itself.
bitcoin will not be replaced by ethereum. if this happens you should understand that there will certainly be a big change of control in the crypto market which has been the main pillar of the establishment of the trade to date. and also for the position of ethereum it is possible to replace it. whether it's with new or old altcoin, but it has evolved

Not possible. Bitcoin will remain as the biggest cryptocurrency. I am not saying it is the best in terms of features or tech but no coin can replace Bitcoin in the cryptocurrency market. Ethereum is a close follower however you can see what happens to Ethereum when BTC increases a little. The domince will decline a little but it will not go below %50.

That's certainly true, mate. Ethereum may have been following Bitcoin closely and all, but that's that. It seems unrealistic for Ethereum to overcome the original cryptocurrency after all. Perhaps, Ethereum would serve better as a complement of Bitcoin rather than anything else. As of now, Ethereum has a long way to go before it reaches Bitcoin's market cap of over $140 billion dollars. The current economics of ETH also affects its long-term pricing. With an undefined supply for ETH, it'll continue on a constant inflation rate for years on end. This would make it unable to replace Bitcoin in its entirety, anytime soon.

Nonetheless, Ethereum being a smart contract platform has outperformed Bitcoin in many ways. It can be used as the "fuel" of smart contracts, while Bitcoin can be used as a long-lasting store of value. As long as Ethereum remains actively developed and maintained by its foundation, there should be nothing to worry about. Just my thoughts Grin

I agree that ethereum is a complement to bitcoin. Bitcoin as money and ethereum as a platform for business. This is an ideal illustration of the use of cryptocurrency but what is happening now is that many competitors have begun to emerge for ethereum and this could change the ranking composition in coinmarketcap

Ethereum, being the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has all the potential of replacing Bitcoin in the future. It's more than just a cryptocurrency, being a platform for the development and execution of smart contracts (aka dApps). With ETH, it's possible to launch alternative cryptocurrencies without the need to start a Blockchain from scratch. It's also possible to use the ETH blockchain for other purposes such as voting, proof of identity, verification of documents, and more. In contrast, Bitcoin's only use is for finance where it cannot be implemented in other areas by its own.

Given all of the benefits Ethereum provides on top of Bitcoin, it makes me wonder whenever it'll be able to replace the pioneer cryptocurrency within the future? As long as, Ethereum keeps progressing in development and mainstream acceptance, it'll be much closer to Bitcoin every step of the way. What are your thoughts? Huh
Ethereum and bitcoin has been really tight on competing against each other for a long time already but bitcoin was still at the lead wherein ethereum's price is still far away from bitcoin. Amidst having that fact, ethereum keeps on improving day by day but just like bitcoin, it still experiences crisis and downfall. Good thing now is that bitcoin and ethereum are recovering and for me, it will take too long for ethereum to defeat bitcoin since it is a very strong and successful coin amidst the crisis.

I'm not sure someday ethereum can replaces bitcoin, from the marketcap difference is very far between bitcoin and ethereum
bitcoin are first cryptocurrency, but if that happend i think trend of bitcoin will decrease because the position has been replaced by ethereum

From scratch eth has been proven more usercase than btc but fairness been said blockchain which is the technology behind the development of bitcoin is same technology that supports the development of Ethereum network.. Both are different coins trying to solve the same problem in their perspective ways
but in the end, if both projects try to solve the same problem, then the winner will be the one who does it first. Only time will show who will stay in this market

ETH will follow bitcoin with respect to price for sure. But I am not sure about ETH replacing BTC. This is more of psychological thing. However ETH adoptation is at its maximum when compared to BTC. This might give edge to ETH to replace BTC but it will take another 10 years atleast.
all possibilities can happen and the desire of investors is also like that to replace bitcoin is not possible but if the price and the equivalent value might be possible it could be possible with the amount of interest in investing with coins will develop rapidly, in my opinion everything can happen because it is not anyone can predict the development of any crypto currency

The ethereum has all the potentials needed to replace bitcoin but that is not going to happen right now perhaps in the next 20 to 30 years in the future. If you look that market right now you can see the market is fully dominated by bitcoin with over 66% and ethereum has less than 10% of the market dominance. it is going take long time for etherum to replace bitcoin though.
The dominance is always rising lately for bitcoin and it seems that the market share for ETH has sunken for the moment because back then when ETH is on its peak it have so much ICO to support the market capitalization of ETH and also the price aswell but now most of the project are using some exchanges' blockchainso that'd be a huge stepback for ETH if really trying to conquer the market by becoming number 1.
ETH seems like just being used as a footstep to be honest. Its capitalization not really coming from itself but by the existence of another project.

I don't know if Ethereum will ever surpass Bitcoin in market cap, but its blockchain vastly outperforms Bitcoin almost every step of the way. Because Bitcoin is the OG cryptocurrency, it has garnered a level of trust that Ethereum hasn't reached quite yet. Perhaps as crypto goes more mainstream, people will see the benefits of Ethereum in comparison to Bitcoin - but I think we're still quite a long way off from that. Personally, I started off buying Bitcoin off of marketplaces like Vertex, and then branched out to diversify my portfolio a bit (still working on it - obviously).

You have point OP. However, I don't think Ethereum will become as popular as Bitcoin. When you mention cryptocurrency to some random guy, his first association, if any, will be Bitcoin. Ethereum is most definitely better option when it comes to development, but Bitcoin will be the leading currency always.

In my own personal opinion, i don't think ethereum could have a chance to replace bitcoin because bitcoin has more value and it is the number one cryptocurrency in the market, that is why ethereum doesn't have a chance to defeat bitcoin. But if ethereum really replaces bitcoin someday i think bitcoin will start to lose it's value little by little because people will start to lose interest to buy bitcoin.

yes maybe ethereum can take over bitcoin but not in the near future., ethereum is the biggest altcoin among other altcoins. I still believe that Ethereum has potential and will always develop in the future. In addition, ethereum has a smart platform and also a great team in developing its projects.

I am very happy if ethereum replace bitcoin some day, I still hold ether now hope can back to higher price and hope some day become replace of bitcoin position, looks impossible with bitcoin can replace by ether because bitcoin price very higher and ether very cheap, more than 400% bitcoin and ether have different price look nothing can replace to change bitcoin.

That's the one that I'm waiting for, because I saved a little of my money in ETH, everyone doesn't know what will happen in the future, ETH also has a team that has very good performance, so it's no wonder that one day ETH will replace Bitcoin.

what you say is true but in my opinion in terms of value, popularity and market capitalization of ethereum is still far below bitcoin. and a limited amount of bitcoin will make bitcoin more valuable in the future. So I think it will be difficult for ethereum to change the position of bitcoin. although ethereum has better technology than bitcoin.
