Ethereum, being the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has all the potential of replacing Bitcoin in the future. It's more than just a cryptocurrency, being a platform for the development and execution of smart contracts (aka dApps). With ETH, it's possible to launch alternative cryptocurrencies without the need to start a Blockchain from scratch. It's also possible to use the ETH blockchain for other purposes such as voting, proof of identity, verification of documents, and more. In contrast, Bitcoin's only use is for finance where it cannot be implemented in other areas by its own.

Given all of the benefits Ethereum provides on top of Bitcoin, it makes me wonder whenever it'll be able to replace the pioneer cryptocurrency within the future? As long as, Ethereum keeps progressing in development and mainstream acceptance, it'll be much closer to Bitcoin every step of the way. What are your thoughts? Huh
What if ethereum replace someday? Ethereum is one of the best coin nowadays in which it follows the path of bitcoin when it comes to the price and volume, for example when you saw the price of the bitcoin pump up it follows the price of ethereum to pump up also. Ethereum can really replace bitcoin someday in the near future.
this will never happen. Ethereum does not have the functions that Bitcoin has. After a while, bitcoin will be developed technologically then 80 percent of people who hold ETH will sell it

I think sir, if real talk honestly speaking nothing can replace bitcoin position, not only for its price but of course to its features too.
Because of this I knew that this is the reason why people embraced it and the mass adoption was spread out rapidly all over the
world, that's why Bitcoin achieved the period of 10 years existence in this business.

I think that when ETH value will reach the value of $ 10,000 and BTC will stay at the current price, Dominance ETH will increase to 60% and altcoins will completely lose value. However, Bitcoin is not likely to be replaced by very large BTC users, it cannot be overthrown.

Well, both bitcoin and ethereum have their advantages and disadvantages. Ethereum has better ecosystem and every improvement, it is capable of doing much more than Bitcoin. But Bitcoin is the first coin appeared on crypto market,it has the largest capitalization and it is laid the foundation for the whole crypto market. So, I think it won't happen in near future.

I don't think its possible. Its not about ETH.its not possible for any altcoin to replace bitcoin. We can see that almost more than 59% of all market cap is in bitcoin. People like it and trustbit the most. Even in a long future its hard to believe for me that ether or any altcoin will replace bitcoin.

It will be big bad news for crypto space entirely if eth replace bitcoin because crypto space will lose many investors, i belief many investors are into crypto because of bitcoin only even big well known organizations trust bitcoin only, so it will be bad for long time, bitcoin has the highest marketcap presently just imagine what will happen if that vanished

Investors must think practically, that is, follow what looks profitable. It could be that ethereum replaces bitcoin because the market moves very dynamically even though it is difficult to happen. In the past people thought Yahoo was a big company that was hard to beat but what happened now Yahoo became a company that was sold

I am glad with ethereum could replace of bitcoin some day later, many investor keep holding ethereum will be happy because seeing ethereum have higher price than bitcoin, but is not be true because price ethereum and bitcoin today so far and never could raised half or bitcoin price, although with eth situation today look down.
"Replace" here is not replace the price, the total supply coin of Ethereum is unlimited so to reaches the present price of Bitcoin now is impossible.
But with a large number of coins and low transaction fees, I think Eth will be used widely as cash in real life.

Ethereum, erc-20 token thanks to projects using standing can say. Now ico's are released with their mainnet. So erc-20 transfers are constantly decreasing. As transfers are reduced, there is no need for minerals and financial benefits are reduced. This affects the price of the ethereum. So the ethereum will never replace the bitcoin.

To reach the conclusion whether Ethereum can beat Bitcoin, we first have to look at the current market position and the degree of utility of both coins.
Bitcoin is clearly market leader right now. It worth 70 times more than ETH. When it comes to utility, it is accepted by many online stores. Easily speaking, Bitcoin is most-widely used cryptocurrency at the moment.
Whereas Ethereum's market condition is worsening. It has dropped over 90% in last 19 months. When it comes to utility, it is mostly used to create tokens. There is hardly any real use of ETH coin in its own.
If we compare above, we can easily reach to conclusion that Bitcoin will remain the king until some new cryptocurrency comes in the market, offering entirely different set of utility.

Exactly. Right now, the numbers are telling us that it's nearly impossible for Ethereum to surpass Bitcoin anytime soon. However, we cannot discard the possibility of ETH overcoming Bitcoin in the future as crypto behaves in many strange and bizarre ways. The high volatility in prices makes certain cryptocurrencies rise on top of others across the market. We've already seen how Ripple's XRP cryptocurrency has replaced ETH in terms of market cap several times. Of course, ETH has regained its rightful place on the market. But, the trend repeats itself every time there are wild fluctuations in price. For once, ETH was heavily used as a gateway into the ICO world. Now, that's a thing of the past as ICOs have experienced a massive crackdown from worldwide governments (especially the US).

Things aside, I believe that Ethereum will do just fine as an alternative to Bitcoin. After all, ETH is not meant to be a store of value. The world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap can be useful as a sort of "fuel" that powers smart contracts worldwide. This would allow Ethereum to become a highly-demanded altcoin for years to come. However, its price might not increase that much because of its undefined maximum supply.

Nonetheless, it's safe to say that Bitcoin will remain as the "King of Crypto" for the foreseeable future while Ethereum will remain as the "Prince of Crypto". Both camps have their distinctive advantages/disadvantages one from another. People can use ETH or BTC depending on their daily needs. With the power of smart contracts on Ethereum, and a resilient store of value on Bitcoin, the Blockchain ecosystem becomes a better place for people within the mainstream world. Just my opinion Smiley

a long time ago, ETH has always been rumored to be one of the coins that have the potential to surpass BTC. but unfortunately, the demand for BTC is always greater than ETH. in addition, the rise of bitcoin dominance a few days ago also became evidence that bitcoin was needed more than other coins, even ETH.

well, if one day ETH dominates, and replaces bitcoin, the answer is quite simple, just change your focus from bitcoin to ETH. Besides that, I think most investors have bitcoin and Ethereum in their wallets.

That's certainly true, mate. Ethereum may be far superior than Bitcoin in terms of its technological aspects. But the pioneer cryptocurrency is still widely trusted and adopted within the mainstream world. Because of this, Bitcoin has experienced a greater level of demand than Ethereum and most other altcoins on the market. Right now, ETH is far behind Bitcoin in terms of market cap. Considering the current circulating supply and price difference between both cryptocurrencies, it would take a lot of effort for ETH to get past Bitcoin anytime soon.

If the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap wants to experience an upsurge in price, it would need to deal with its issues first. It's still the day where many people are expecting Ethereum to adopt PoS + Sharding for scalability. Demand will gradually decrease until Ethereum does the right thing to boost its transaction capacity for mainstream use. Only then, investors will buy ETH in mass, resulting in higher prices over time. Despite this, it'll be nearly impossible to replace Bitcoin because it's too big to fail.

Nonetheless, I believe that Ethereum will do better by complementing Bitcoin in every way. Since it was mainly designed for smart contracts, it could serve its purpose well for delivering censorship-resistant dApps to the world. On the other hand, Bitcoin can serve well its purpose as a store of value as many people use it like "digital gold". As both cryptocurrencies improve over time, their position on market will become stronger. Hence, Ethereum might remain as the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap for years to come. Just my opinion Smiley

Of all the other thousand cryptocurrencies out there i think ethereum is still the only one capable of replacing Bitcoin as the top cryptocurrency presently.

Eth is the second largest coin by market share and it is also tge major coin used to develop the largest percentage of smart contracts present in the cryptocurrency space.

In terms of market dominance and marketcap ethereum stands next to bitcoin. Recently ethereum was moved to third place by Ripple. By that time it was mentioned as manipulated growth to get the attention of users towards xrp. Later ethereum took its place. The term altcoin itself makes it an alternate to the bitcoin and not an replacement.
So i think eth is capable but i dont believe that will happen anytime soon
Next to bitcoin most of the people prefer ethereum for investment as well other transaction purposes. This is perfectly based on the real-time usage and the growth it has provided through the smart contract when there is more than two thousand coins in the CMC. Ethereum has the ability to compete against bitcoin, but this will never cause bitcoin get replaced by ethereum.

But I would like the project to replace Bitcoin more focused on privacy. So I wouldn't have preferred Ethereum.
So you mean a coin like Monero? Hmm, if Ethereum already seems no match for bitcoin then I think this coin is even way farther to replace it. I say so because Monero is currently rank 13 compared to ethereum which is in the 2nd spot (based on the Coinmarketcap). Well, who knows? The usage of Monero is growing rapidly in dark web, maybe it could be it's gateway to encourage more investors which leads to greater adoption.

bitcoin and ethereum are different from each other, bitcoin is a profitable investment in the last decade and ethereum is altcoin which has a smart platform with several projects in this market, so i don't think ethereum can replace bitcoin, bitcoin will remain the top in the crypto market.

There  is  no way  Ethereum can  replace bitcoin because  each one  has  its  used case bitcoin is meant  for secured , fast and  reliable payment
but Ethereum Networks is capable of opening up the world of decentralized applications even to the people who are without any technical background can be easily accessed by its native browser.

Those things you have mentioned are fact but nothing beats bitcoin as the best store of value.
And for ethereum to be able to replace bitcoin someday it needs huge gain for its market cap but I doubt this is will ever happen. I'm an ethereum holder though.

I agree so much on this. Bitcoin seems untainted as the exemplary cryptocurrency. Bitcoin isn't
showing anything that might frail it's stance as the best. Surely prices alarmingly goes up and
drops down erratically from time to time, as dips are a normal and vital occurrence in any market.
I love and support ETH, I invest on them I think it's the next best thing since Bitcoins and they
have an essential role just like Bitcoin. But if ETH does replace Bitcoin that might really change
things here and there. It does seems likely to happen, It can possibly replace Bitcoin given the
circumstances that it might peak up and overtake bitcoin at some point in the market in the
future. ETH is uniquely vital and it has a distinctive place in cryptocurrency today. But currently
Bitcoin still holds it's ground and affluence with every other coins out there, since every altcoin
is directly or indirectly affected and  influence at different levels with Bitcoin's market price and
value.
