I think exchanges are really the best way or place to buy any crypto as it is safer and more better. If you are bothered about your private data, then create a new email, register on exchanges such as Binance, set your 2fa to secure your account then get started but there will be 2btc withdrawal limitation. Another alternative although a bit risky is buying from escrow groups in your region, but in this case you have to be careful. You can exchange money for cryptocurrencies using escrow from the forum, but I personally have not used such a service and can not say about convenience. Personally, I use the input of money through some exchanges, but there you need to go through the KYC.

The first point to best wallet security is to learn how to keep wallet logins safe. Avoid sharing them on emails or following /downloading unknown files sent to emails from unknown sources as well. With the exchanges, it is best to always trade with the tier 1 exchange platforms like Binance, Kucoin, Coinbase etc because they have good reputation.

Either way. If you are in the USA just use Coinbase or Gemini which has good security and your KYC info is safe and withdraw your BTC to a hardware wallet like a Ledger.
If you can't afford a ledger then just use an old laptop that you never connect to the internet and run Electrum or Armoury on it with cold storage mode and your coins will never get stolen. There are tons of guides on this forum on how to do this.

I don't understand clearly why you don't want to use Changelly. But here is my favourite way to exchange fiat to crypto: Kuna Exchange. There you can use your card or pay with telegram bot.

this way somebody could say you brought this coin, but noone can say what you did with it.
you could also buy mining equipment. you could mine some coins anonymously. very safe for you, your funds, but maybe not investment.
