I'm quite a patient person, so when it comes to my coins having low value, I tend to just ignore it and work for more coins. Although, I still check it's value weekly, and whenever I see even the slightest increase in it's price, I'd grab that opportunity and sell the coins that I intend to sell. I think it's actually better than getting nothing at all.
The key is not to sell at a loss. When you are sure you're making profit and won't regret selling the coin in a week or two or a month or two, then sell. It's my rule too. You're right, that’s the simplest rule. But usually people think that they can make even more money than expected initially, and that's where problems start: they hold and lose, or trade and lose, and the market is not behaving the way we want. I don't think there is a particular formula to sell your coins. You just have to consider the market conditions if selling them will favor you and fetch you some profit.
Normal trading rules and algorithms do not apply here, IMHO. I think we need to have a different kind of brain and lower our expectations of what's going on in this market.

I agree. It doesn't make sense to panic sell when the price isn't right for you to make a profit. I hold good coins and trade in cheaper ones for profit. It's had to tell when to sell but with practice you can do it. Jump to:
