I would invest 30% in bitcoin, 30% in the etherium, 30% in the top 20 altcoins , I would choose a pair and 10% in a more risky young asset.
You Can Invest in various Projects not just a Precious One.
You never know what happens next!
For me, i don't really trust much on ICO!
So if i were you,i Wouldn't be Investing any Penny on ICOs.
Meanwhile when i invest in a currency i analyse it before i do!
then i choose the correct time and correct ammount!
i made my capital 2x within two months doing that!

I prefer that you should place it to bitcoins because the market price today is currently dumping so you will absolutely earn a huge amount of profit when the market goes back to normal.

Of cource you have most probably already invested, but if not - don't invest now. Just keep that money and watch the market. I guess we will have a better investment opportunity soon. The market continues to fall and coins continue to become cheaper. Now it is very reasonable to stay in USD.
There's many of good options especially when one is able to get in at ground floor that is the best timing for anyone. This company is coming out with the first crypto arbitrage exchange between all the relevant exchanges around the world connecting them and allowing others to profit from the land-locked regionalized price differences.

Honestly I think BAT (Basic Attention Token) has the highest upside! They gave out 10k free tokens months ago and anybody who took that airdrop has made a substantial profit.
$ 500 is a very small amount to invest. With so little capital, I would recommend choosing the 5 most promising altcoins and investing in them in equal shares.
I think you should buy Pundi X and MTC. Thay already do x10 from ICO and i think thay won`t stop in future.
Well, I assume that you can invest this amount to perspective blockchain 4.0 project like Pchain . Also it is perfect time for long term purchases , buy something like Neo , Ada or BCH.

You can buy many altcoins with your $500 as the price are now lowered than the normal price. Please do your own research first before deciding.
