You can choose to buy Bitcoin or Altcoin, or you could diversify with 50% Bitcoins and 50% of one of those altcoins or a combination of the three. There are probably a few other altcoins that could be good as well.
You should choose a good coin to buy and wait for good price to sell, keep them at least 1 month. I personally think should buy coin of the floor as BNB or HT

Pick bitcoin or ethereum and hold for atleast 2 years and you will gain a lot of money. Trust me bro, long term is better than short term holding.

As for me, so $ 500 is too small an amount to invest, but if there is no more money, then buy at the moment ETH or Bitcoin, they just fell in price. $500 is already a good amount for an investment. You can choose from Ripple, Tron, Cardano, Stellar, Bytecoin and any coins below the price of $1 from the top 50 or top 100 coins in coinmarketcap are the good choices. Trading isn't that easy so you'll gonna need alot of patience and ofcoarse some basic knowledge so that that $500 of yours won't be turn into waste. Goodluck
