here I review about the advantages and shortcomings of ICO for investors:
advantages
The advantage for investors who follow ICO before the coin is launched to the free market is the price given will be cheaper.
And usually when the coin is launched the price will jump up to more than 5x the price of ICO. This is what makes investors enjoy the existence of ICO
weakness
Some things become the problem is SCAM when ICO is not clear project, purpose collecting funds made by developers and teams that are not clear or not plastered. Usually this will be explained in the whitepaper.

I should say that small caps has a lot of potential. If you need quick buck, probably HST or CAG could be a good choices. However, in long term I trust privacy coins (ZCash, Zcoin etc.) all of them will grow. I like BitShares as well. Very strong community, scalable blockchain. It is not only a platform you can build on, it is a self-governed and self-evolving digital world. Politicians and bureaucracy will be changed by smart contracts or a line of code, to be exact.

I would choose Ripple. In November 2017, US banking giant American Express announced that it will be partnering with Ripple to send money across the Atlantic to the UK. A lot of people are beginning to realise how big of an opportunity there is between business and the blockchain and that's making Ripple the early winner here. So I think Ripple looks as promising investment.
