Whitepaer is used not just to prove that the ICO is real, whitepaper focuses on the projects plan and future, as a bounty hunter, we seek to scan the whitepaper to know if it is real. but in the industry world, it is a big pool of information that will provide the investors about a certain ICO and its opportunities.

For me the project don't have white paper maybe is scam because if you want to become successful your project you will give all information about the project. It is important for us because for me that is one requirement of being a legit project.

1. problem that the project solves
2. whether tokens issue is limited
3. who creates the project and what experience do these people have
4. link to the smart contract code
5. what has been done?
6. what and how investors' funds will be spent
7. where is the company registered

The whitepaper can be referred to as a business proposal, where all the prospectus about the project is mentioned in detail. Its obvious no one is going to invest blindly if he wants to invest in the project he will refer the business plan like what is the project about? what is the product they are offering? What problems it can solve? will it become a success or not? What is the coin distribution?
If the whitepaper satisfies your instincts then you may think to invest otherwise you will be in loss if you invest without referring the whitepaper.

Whitepaper give a depth knowledge about what a project entails. it provide information about how a project intend to achieve its aim and objective. whitepaper is very important because it give insight how much potential is in a particular project and how much worth a project is if you wanna invest in project. reading whitepaper is not enough to conclude maybe a project will be great but it speaks volume about the future of the project. you can actually run a plagiarism check on whitepaper to see whether its original.

I think you have the wrong knowledge and of course you won't know the ico project that leads to a scam.
white paper is the most important part of the ico connecting bridge and investors, in this case someone can invest because they already know how the ico project will develop over time, this really requires experience of course logic

You should always consider read an ICO's white paper, white paper contains the vision, mission, plan and many much more information that will enable you to understand an ICO's concept, you can also determine if it is a scam if it doesn't have enough effort exerted to it. Low quality ICO (design and content) leads to lower rate of its success rate.
