Basically, reading white paper for detection of SCAM is not just the only reason why whitepapers are created. Whitepapers provides pre insights and the actual insights about a project. Maybe the white paper doesn't matter, after all, there are so many fraudsters. Those white papers are also fake. Even if you have actually read them, maybe you don't know what it is. Even if you really read some white papers, it’s nothing but a waste of your time.

Absolutely, if the ICO is scam at the first place they will gonna scam. White paper does bot going to give you an idea on how they are going to scam you because white paper contains "white" information no trace of dirt being said to you. But it is important to read the white paper to know the details of a certain ICO when you are going to invest, risking money is all up to you.

The challenge we have most times is not about knowing if a project has white paper, but our disposition towards the whitepaper by reading it, which helps to determine if the project is scam or not.
Whitepaper gives insight into what the project is all about.

i guess you can conclude how good is the project's team by reading whitepaper. and it is also can give you some perspective view of the whole thing so you could decide whether its worth your money

The importance of reading the white paper is to know what is the essence of doing the project to know also our benefit in trusting that project.
