People have different reasons for doing things. Some smokers are only smoking for the smoke. They literally just like seeing themselves exhaling smoke, and so vape has become a thing. Others are substituting vape as well but their vape juice contains nicotine (main component of tobacco). Other are smoking for the taste. There are tons of delicious vape juices out there. And candy surely is a good substitute as well. I hear some choose the type of candy that has menthol and has a strong taste. The same thing in gambling, people have different reasons why they are gambling.

People are gambling for the following possible reasons:

a. the thrill; Those who are in it for the thrill can substitute gambling with something extreme like sports.
b. to bury their sadness/feelings (or whatever negative emotion) that they don't wanna face; Online games will not really do the trick as it's not really thrilling, per se. It's good to consult a friend or a psychiatrist if you are too afraid to face your own feelings.
c. their upbringing; You really can't change your upbringing as that already happened, but those are in the past and that doesn't necessarily have to define who you become.
d. their social life; The single best thing about your friends is that you can choose them, you can easily cut off those who are bringing you down as well as those that keeps you gambling.
e. just having nothing better to do. When you have nothing better to do than gambling, that means it can be replaced by any other behavior! You can just pick whatever that keeps you entertained.

It's like to ask why people instead of smoking do not eat candies. There are different people, some like gambling, other online games kind of Dota 2 and there is a type who combine it, just like my husband dose.

It is absolutely a different and even a well interesting experience than gambling as far as I am concerned, most especially for those who are seeking fun. At least with gaming, you are utilizing your brain to solve some riddles, and you are trying to overcome certain challenges but not in the name of winning some money but for fun.

If fun is the major reason why people gamble, then gaming is a whole lot better when it comes to having fun. The only exception would be people who are in it for the money, while some may realize, they still need to be able to control those winning impulses when they start getting too much.

Yes gambling is more satisfying for gamblers. And the same goes for gamers, they do love gaming whether its an online or offline game. As I've said they have similarity in so many ways but describing the differences is easy to determine.

You mentioned meeting new friends by gambling, you may not know that when I was into an RPG game I made a lot of friends and we've been meeting once in awhile. And now we became real world friends.

That is where I gambled to when I was active towards items that have value in the title. It’s fun to see how games could give a lot of value we just have to take advantage of it. It’s sad that you lost your rare items but I think it would still regain it and the fast Way to do it is by gambling. 

But I dont think that all of the gamblers also plays Csgo or Dota 2, so they can't bet any items there. I do play those two but I dont usually use my items to gamble, I use it on the game.

I gambled on DotaLounge one time and that is a regret. I bet my rare item and I will be getting 2 mythical items. There is a possibility if that team winning though I still lost. I know that rare items these days is cheap but that is a waste.

but maybe there are any games that are challenging and makes our heart beat faster like for example, we are playing combat and adventure games which will give more excitement in the games. I agree that if money inside the games, it will more challenging like we said because we are tempting to win the games although we know that it is difficult to win the money.



yes, it is different things. usually, people playing online game for fun and other people playing gambling for making money which they know they cannot always win the game. so playing games online is for releasing the stress without spending any money and we can enjoy the game and get fun inside the game. but in gambling, we can also enjoy the game and get fun too like what we get in games online.

As far as making money and meeting new friends is concerned, I would go for online games. There's TONS of money in online games. In fact, the video games industry is one of those with the most revenue.

In online games, there's the leveling up, crafting, grinding, and making money. MMORPG usually requires a lot of crafting in order for people to have the best items. Not everyone has the time and the will to grind so they just buy the items from another person. Same goes with the in-game currency, they just buy it from people. So, becoming really powerful and rich in an online game can also make you rich in real life as you are able to sell these items. In CS:Go (Counter Strike Global Offensive), lot of the skins costs more than when you buy the actual gun in real life. It's really crazy how much people spend in games. You can also easily find insane tip amount in a Twitch stream.

Meeting up new friends is quite easy as well as online games usually require you to play multiplayer. A lot of games are played with a team. There are Steam and Discord group chats where you can easily meet new people with the same interest as you, which is gaming and they are likely to stick with you if you're a good player. I used to play a lot of online games and I must say, I mostly stayed just to hang out with my in-game friends.

In gambling, we enjoy the game whenever we are winning and most of the time that is not what's happening. This is why online games is better in terms of enjoyability, income, and meeting new friends. That's just my opinion but I have included proofs to back them up.

Well i think that for gamblers it more satisfying to gamble rather than playing online games.

Gambling may meet new set of friends,  become more strategic in reality.  But in online games you can play only by yourself,  also online games are just for leisure,  having fun or I may say that itnis just for a minute fun.

Some people who do gambling make it source of income,  to gain something not just for fun.  It is two different thing that we cannot make a subtitute for gambling.

Gaming and gambling are two different things so you have a point that if addiction is tackled, it must be on separated threads and there are too many of it already on this board.

Gambling has its stake while playing games doesn't have any stake but only in-game items. Both are good for entertainment but it has similarity, whereas some gamers are doing it as livelihood and way of living while some gamblers do the same.

I believe that the addiction is a completely different topic in this case (of course connected, but probably needed to be treated as a side topic).
For me personally, gaming just provide completely different experience and incentives than gambling and in some cases is complimentary to gambling.

But there is a difference in that. If you are a gambling addict and you are not aware of your addictiveness, you are just gambling the games that you are used to like 21, Blackjack and Poker.

Just imagine a gambling addict shifting from those three gambling games to betting on Mobile Legends? I don't think that that will be an option to a gambler. If I will be the gambler, I would rather travel miles just to gamble, you can't just find a quick alternative to someone who is addicted to something. I can recommend them some games on the playstore since there are some online games there that they can play like Blackjack and Poker.

Playing online games will not cover their hobbies as gamblers, we know there are many online games and mobile legends are the most popular online games, there we can still gamble using custom features. So if you are a gambling addict, then you can make online game as a place to gamble.

Playing games online and gambling are actually two totally different things and for most people they are just really looking for ways to make more money from gambling even though they claim they want to have fun, but in reality, it is the money and the hope of winning huge one day that keeps them going.

I have myself this question several times, that if people really want to have fun, there are interesting and educative games that can really bring that fun they really desire rather than gambling.

Well, most people think like you, but I see from the other side that they tend to be more into gambling games because they are very looking for challenges rather than just playing games, obviously gambling is very different from ordinary games because in that game using money or coins to fight and, in essence, they want to find pleasure and profit.

Most times when people say the main essence of them gambling is to have fun, I can understand for those who go the traditional ways in casinos, but for those who are actually gambling online, I want to believe asides from the fact that they are looking forward to a win, there is really nothing to catch as fun from it.

That is just a way of just distracting themselves from not getting too addicted to the gambling world. If people want to have real fun, I also believe there are better ways to achieve that than gambling.

Yeah it's about challenging that you won't get when you just play ordinary games. gambling makes your heart rate faster because there is something you bet on and that is not in the game. once again the two are different. just because looking for fun doesn't mean gambling are the same as ordinary games

playing gambling by playing online games is really risking what we have, but the way it is done is clearly very different and the sensation that is gained is very different, because everyone has a different hobby to determine the game he likes. many who are addicted to gambling many do not like playing online games even though the purpose of both is just to have fun most of those who are accustomed to gambling would prefer to play gambling because by gambling they can get abundant profits if they are able to win it

That is also a kind of gamble, theres alot of players who are near to professional quality play and spend all their time, effort and equipment setup to achieve that aim.  However its possible it never pays off for them and they are worse off then the person who did a normal 9-5 job and kept the games and gambling to a personal level.
