People are interested in altcoins because there are very profitable especially if you know how to pick the best projects.Have made lots by investing in altcoins over the last year's.Not all altcoins brings in such profits all the time but most do atimes. overall there can be a very good investment.

almost all crypto traders who join this forum have some altcoins they hold in their wallets. in my opinion all the reasons are almost the same, namely waiting for the best price to get the altcoin held.
I myself have several altcoins such as matic, cardano and Trx, I hold them until the market is in favor of these altcoins to gain profit from these altcoins

Altcoins can make an investor an instant millionaires subject to a  rapid pump in price of that invested altcoin, I recall vividly in 2018 in the aftermath of Bitcoin ATM alot of altcoins pumped massively thus some  investment worth of $100 generates a massive reward of 1000% profits this is very real and obvious with reference to to some altcoin/USD price chart take a cursory check on past price history of some those altcoins in Binance App or other top exchange where a single daily price candlestick pumped massively in two to three days invariably massive profits was yielded.

That's certainly true, mate. Altcoins are a high-risk, high-reward investment, while BTC is all of the contrary. People often choose altcoins that are "new to the scene" with the hopes of getting huge returns in the long run. Sometimes it works, while other times it fails.

I'd say altcoins are more of a gamble due to their highly-unpredictable nature. Besides the fact that most altcoin projects are scams, some of them are unreliable for serious day-to-day payments (eg: Solana). I'd suggest you invest wisely by diversifying your investment into more than one cryptocurrency. Only then, you'll be able to minimize risks of loss as much as possible.
