I don't think so ...because Bitcoin is gaining popularity and widely used and recognised.
We do not control the future but we have to believe that more people will support bitcoin than the upcoming altcoins now.
The maket of altcoins are getting better also because they have a developer that are active in making improvements, while bitcoin is not.

We just have to hope that no altcoin will surpass the capability of bitcoin or bitcoin should evolve and improve so that even if an altcoin gained the same level of capability of bitcoin, it will not take the place of bitcoin that easily. Constant evolution and improvement for bitcoin is crucial so that bitcoin will stay number 1.

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?
Well if you think about it, altcoin is always exchanged with bitcoin
It's like bitcoin is the dollar and altcoins are other currencies of the world. No altcoin can replace bitcoin currently. Maybe in future bitcoin can replaced by another cryptocurrency but for now, no one can replace bitcoin.

It's possible. but bitcoin has gained much more popularity and it has been adopted for mass use.
yes everything in this world can be possible but still it is not so easy to beat such a good and popular crypto currency.

e-gold was much better and it was replaced. everything is replaceable. Smiley
Yes everything is replaceable and also bitcoin,
if a cryptocurrency is better and faster than bitcoin with the same or better features
then it will easily replace bitcoin.

Yes as we know that bitcoin is the first and master crypto currency and all other coins are the copies of bitcoin then how can a copy replace its original. It is hard for any of other crypto currency to replace bitcoin and to become the first crypto currency of the world.

They are not just a copy paste of bitcoin. Most altcoins have something an actual thing to offer. For example, the new and quite hyped up coin on Liqui, the Edgeless (EDG coin). The coin can be used in the casino that doesn't have a house edge. Most gamblers say that they are losing because of the house edge so I guess that's what gave the developers that idea for a coin. Other coins have their own target market. Altcoins are better than bitcoins at some aspect but that's not enough for them to replace bitcoins

Could you explain shortly (in your own words) how this coin is different from the pack?

On the other hand, the only killing feature right now will could at least theoretically make Bitcoin obsolete (if is continues to stagnate with no new features added) are instant ping-time transactions. Many coins that followed Bitcoin lead tried to diminish confirmation times rightfully thinking that this is what people need, but none of these coins came even close to truly instant transactions made in a completely decentralized way. This and dirt-cheap transactions is what could potentially threaten Bitcoin hegemony

It is not, I was just simply trying to point out that almost all altcoins out there have their own purpose but those purposes and those improvements aren't enough to surpass bitcoin's current standing. And some coins have their own target market, like my example. Slight improvements and some other gimmicks will never be enough to kill bitcoins. Maybe if it will be mixed with some intense marketing strategy, then it can reach a high market cap just like bitcoins. But I still doubt that.

Bitcoin is symbol of trust in all cryptocurrencies and will keep dominating this market. Bitcoin will not be replaced by another cryptocurrency as it is to be used as basic thing to set the values of other altcoins. Bitcoin has reached the level where it can not be undone or to be influenced by any other coin.
Accept the fact that bitcoin will become old and it will be like the metals that will experience rusts which it needs to be replaced by another one who can do the same thing or even better than bitcoin. After a few years, bitcoin will be slow and because of that people will migrate to another coin and purely use it and abandon bitcoin.

I think it is possible. at least bitcoin and few authority altcoins (Like Ethereum, Ripple) percentage of total market capitalizations will change.

They will come close to each other.

Because authority altcoins still achieving promising growths.

Bitcoin itself won't be taken over/replaced by a different cryptocurrency unless there is some major shift with the cryptosphere or a lot of the fiat financial systems start to move into cryptos and everyone pushes for a new one.

Bitcoin can change and be modified, but there's a very small chance that Bitcoin will be replaced in the foreseeable future.

It can be possible or maybe not bitcoin was the first successful virtual currency ever created and ..,
after the success of bitcoin other created there or currency because they also wanted success that end up alt coins..,,
Maybe someday bitcoin experience a problem that can the answer that it will be replaced by other..,
The bitcoin was Introduced in 2009, Bitcoin was created by a developer or group of developers going by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Initially the value of the currency was set by users on forums until the first exchange outlet was established. It is known as a "crypto-currency"; meaning that the money and transactions are secured and controlled through encrypted passwords. Since its introduction, Bitcoins have been gaining momentum worldwide, with over 1,000 merchants accepting the currency.

Maybe because all of us want a very fast transaction that no confirmation needed maybe if some coin is meet our expectations maybe that coin will be surpass bitcoin but it needs a lot of upgrade in all that bitcoin have because that will catch attention of the investors and the people who will using it.

There's no need to replace, and you are right with it that bitcoin needs upgrade and that is being tackled by devs already. But I believe that there would be one day that bitcoin will be replaced in terms of it's features and the original will remain. And being replace of another coin, I'm not considering it to happen at all.

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?
Eventually, Yes. Anytime soon, No.
Because the way technology is moving right now, its not that hard to believe that something better will be created in the future, so yes it will be replaced one day for sure, as history has taught us that everything will eventually die out no matter how good.
But it is true that you don't see that happening any time soon.

Yes the life cycle is limited for each and everything in this world and even bitcoin will die someday or will get replaced by something new and innovative technology in near future but as of now I think bitcoin is safe and moving in a positive direction.
Well, I guess it's good to back an investment that has been doing really great and that is bitcoin, however if you still believe that there is a chance it will replace, I guess it's good to consider altcoins that are popular now such as Ethereum and Monero, and I'm sure there are a lot more you can find out there.

ETH and XMR are doing great at a moment and moving really strong but I don't feel that it can be that powerful in future that can take place of bitcoins and will able to replace it but anything is possible so only thing we can do is wait and watch.

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

It makes no sense because Altcoins keep springing up but all of them one way or the other forks part of Bitcoin and if this scenario continues I doubt if any could replace Bitcoin but they can exist as good coins but not to take the place of the premier coin.
Yes as we know that bitcoin is the first and master crypto currency and all other coins are the copies of bitcoin then how can a copy replace its original. It is hard for any of other crypto currency to replace bitcoin and to become the first crypto currency of the world.

Bitcoin is like the founder of cryptocoins, there are many crypto currency out there because bitcoin. Without bitcoin, all cryptocurrency will never happen. But, i think bitcoin can be replaced by another cryptocurrency IF something bad really happen into bitcoin. Other popular cryptocoins will rise and replace bitcoin like Doge, eth, dash and many else.

Just look at the value of bitcoins and compare it to those altcoins and those altcoins are not anywhere in the list to compete with bitcoins so I don't think that any altcoin can be that powerful that can replace bitcoins in near future.

ETH is pretty big to be honest, 1/6 of the marketcap of bitcoin is no joke, if another big coin like ethereum start to be used like a currency i could see bitcoin in danger to be replaced or at least not the standard the facto anymore

it's all coem to the usage and merchants accepting the new currency, which is tied to people first using it more and the marketcap, which attract interest from merchants and other business
