The only other crypto currency I can think of replacing the bitcoin is the Ethereum. Many bitcoiners are buying it.

I think  so. The Ethereum trading volume is even higher than the bitcoin at the moment. So people are interested in it.

God, I really hate when people bring these kind of arguments to the table in what makes the best cryptocurrency/money... The price demand has nothing to do with the functionality of the currency or makes it any better. If that's the case, gold would be a much better choice because it's valued higher per unit.

There are still lots of issues facing Bitcoin and ethereum... Because the prices are high doesn't automatically make them better. There are other stuff out there that could be deemed better if they were priced the same.

Yes ethereum is doing a good job now but still it is below bitcoin and really far. A lot are supporting ETH yes but with popularity and usage now it is still bitcoin who have the most. Maybe someday it will change.

bitcoin and eth is not only about the value/price and how big the trading volume is.
the important part is the technology. that is what makes a coin valuable. and as far as i see it bitcoin and eth are very different and both have a purpose.
but bitcoin can be replaced if there is a coin that serves the same purpose as bitcoin and does it better.
I think it's safe to say that the majority of the people don't give a damn about the technology side of Bitcoin and other crypto currencies.

They just focus on the price going up higher and higher so they can make money in a very short time. That's all they care about.

For me personally the technology side of Bitcoin is very important because its decentralized nature allows us to store money outside the reach of banks and governments.

i agree with you that a majority is ignorant and just focused on the price. but also they are the ones that suffer a lot from scams and hacks. and the best part is, then they scream the loudest that they where misinformed and tricked and nobody told them that ....
and i don not mind that, but the problem is that they also give a lot of bad advice and information about bitcoin to other people. and that is sad and dangerous.

no i do not think so, that bitcoin can be replace by any other currency, bitcoin is getting popular day by day. people are entering in the world of bitcoin on daily bases, they are investing their money in bitcoin, some people are also using bitcoin as in place of fiat money, some shops are now accepting bitcoin for shopping, and the government is now taking serious decision about bitcoin legalization, therefore i do not think so that the bitcoin is going to be merge or replace my any other currency.

I believe so because nothing is permanent in this world. There would always be changes. Some say that it's ETH and now it's ETC. It really depends on the people. Someone will create or already created a cryptocurrency that can make the bitcoin obsolete. It may not be clear now but in the future when someone will be interested in that certain cryptocurrency and pump its value then maybe bitcoiners will transfer some of their funds to that cryptocurrency and later on make the bitcoin's value lower.

I LOVE THE LIR PROJECT
i dont think that wiill happen. it is not possible for other cryptocurrency to replace btc. bitcoin is gone far above other cryptos.

When you understand anything is possible you will understand your statement is wrong. It certainly is very possible for another crypto to compete with BTC but the question is not if, but when.

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

actually it could happen if there would better, faster and more popular crypto, but at this moment there are none like this so probably nothing will change bitcoin

there is a possibility that bitcoin will be replaced by some more advance, user friendly  altcoin in the future.  I say it so because in this world the only permanent is change.  We can have this strong belief that no one can replace bitcoin but it is still an assumption.  If only bitcoin can evolve and adopt all the advance featurs of it's counter part in crypto currency then it is impossible for it to be replaced.

So there getting hard to replaced it.
You may be write but, this all depend on time... in the past time the rate of pound was high but this time the price of pound is low... so pound is replaced in Euros..... so the BTC may be replaced after some times if others gain this much popularity

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

Yes. After 20-50 Years I think. Bitcoin will be dumped and new Altcoin will be used as a Bitcoin. There will be the time that if all the blocks are mined and all the Bitcoin is now on dumped, there is a possibility that new Cryptocurrency will be the Top 1 in the list. Ethereum is now on Top 2 and now, we observed that ETH is now on demand. Maybe next year or 2, ETH price will be doubled. But we don't know if that will be the prediction or not.
this is very irrational for me because it's just a prediction. whether too easy for dumped bitcoin and said will be replaced with another altcoin. and we know the alt could just daughter for bitcoin. I can say it's just a dream for me.

there is no reason for bitcoin to be dumped anytime this soon. even in 20-50 years. fiat has been around for hundreds of year and it has evolved ever since to match the new age and improve.
so since bitcoin is code and it is so easy to change it, even in the future there is no reason for it to go down, it will evolve and match the new world and the new technology.
also eth will be long dead by then lol
codes can't easily be changed actually. if it is they would have edited for the block size
bitcoin may not be dumped as of now since marketing of newer coins isn't that massive but once a better coin thats designed to last without issues will rule someday.

If it will be 50 years then that is a lot of time and maybe one of us is not posting here anymore. Hell, even 20 takes a long time and there is a lot that could happen. Maybe it will not be called a coin anymore.
