It can be possible if new cryptocurrency will be better than bitcoin, people always trying to use stuff that better and profitable, but now it's impossible.

Bitcoin is an experiment, so, it is possible that some other coin with more technical features may be replacing it in a few years. Bitcoin as a lot of limitations; many of the other cryptos already surpassed those limitations. There are a lot of cryptos out there so that means that the bitcoin killer was already developed or sooner or later will

I really don't understand what most of you guys are saying on this thread... There have been no arguments as to WHY you guys think that bitcoin will not be overtaken by another currency.  All I've read so far is basically that Bitcoin will not be over taking because it is more widely accepted in the cryptocurrency world, and because, well, it's bitcoin.

That's not a very valid argument.  Bitcoin has been shown to have many flaws in it's code that devs are now working towards fixing... There are still debates going on about block sizes, anonymity, fungibility, etc. etc....

Simply saying that it is the most well known and that it is highly priced/sought after for is not a valid argument for Bitcoin.

We don't know what will happen in the future, but as of now, we can rightfully say that bitcoin won't be replaced by any other cryptocurrency.

There are some good crypto currencies but for me bitcoin is the real deal. No crypto currency will be able to replace bitcoin that easy.
Especially the bitcoin eco system is very strong these days.
Simple comparisons alone, the number of support and backers of bitcoin is dramatically superior than any other crypto currencies. The number of adoption and integration, is also obvious that bitcoin's superior.
These reasons alone already proves that it's never going to be easy to replace bitcoin.

But bitcoin will surely be replaced by another crypto, but not today. There's someone/some group bound to make a better crypto but it's probably going to happen in the next few decades.

I agree with you.  bitcoin have established it's fortress while other cryptocurrency are just digging for their foundation.  I never removed the fact that it is still an open market where everything is possible to happen.  I also believe that in due time bitcoin will have it's rival and it may possibly be overtaken by it.  But it is not now.

Very good answer and I can't agree more.
In fact, I personally believe that in the future we will have many virtual currencies, in the same way we have now many ''offline'' currencies in the world.
In business and in the most countries people use only a few main currencies like USD, Euro, GBP etc.
It will be the same with virtual currencies and I'm sure that Bitcoin will be always on the top, one of the main used virtual currency.

If there is a crypto currencie able to change the world that currencie its bitcoins, the other may follow and reach the same level, but the rank of bitcoin is and will always be king of currencies, it has opened the doors of crypto world and since then the world is learning.

I will have to agree with that. That is why others are called altcoins I think. But what if the forum is litecointalk. Is bitcoin an altcoin to them also?

You hit the jackpot. Your argument has hit the point and the reason why other coins was named altcoins is because they will complement bitcoin. Alternative coins are there in case bitcoin will fail. And so alternative coins are not meant to destroy or replace bitcoin as long as it survives. It serves as a support currency to bitcoins.

Bitcoin is the reference currency for the cryptosphere, it'll always have a purpose doing that if nothing else

Not for now though but some day another cryptocurrency will replace bitcoin. I suspect it would be DAO, its demand will grow later when its DAPP are being used, voting and smart contracts come in real. The Project is too big to fail and so it will soon be great. I believe in BTC so much but dare I say it you should also invest to DAO.

Ethereum is doing very well, but I don't think any crypto will replace another, simply be used for a different purpose.
yes I think a lot of other nice crypto currency. however bitcoin is the beginning of crypto, bitcoin market share and strong deployment. I believe bitcoin currency will remain the largest and main cypto in the world.

Theres a possibility that this will happen if the bitcoin price will be stable like currency because traders, bitcoin user earn in not stable bitcoin. So i think if the price will be stable they need to replace another coin that will become like bitcoin but as of now it looks like it will happen in the next century.

Yes. Like all technology it will become deprecated one day and replaced by another technology. Proof-of-Work is already turning out to be a failed technology because it centralizes the miners with the most wealth and this will lead to PoW deprecation.

Nothing lasts forever, but in few years horizont I dont see how Bitcoin can be replaced by some another, more popular cryptocurrency. The Proof-of-Work method encourages low cost of electricity when mining, so the Bitcoin mining moves to places with cheapest electricity (toward better effectivity), and has nothing to do with wealth unless you believe only lanrge scale operations get cheapest electricity.

Remember, Bitcoin is just an experiment and until it is code stable and a complete and easy solution it can still fail. Wink

The bitcoin will adopt the next technologes and evolve. So there bitcoin itself will not die, it will improve.
i hope that you are right because if this wouldnt happen then bitcoin would be in a huge trouble, i hope that bitcoin will never go down
I also hope that bitcoin will never go down. I have great hopes for bitcoins and the future of humankind.
Bitcoins will be the top cryptocurrency in the coming days and guess it will be modified to stay on the game.

I would be already buying a lot of a supposed real competitor against Bitcoin, but guess what, bitcoin has just no competition, and seeing how things are going, I doubt Bitcoin is ever going to have any competition unless someone comes up with something as mindblowing itself, but that only happens every hundreds of years, so we are safe. Just keep buying and holding Bitcoin, we are on the winning team.
