Do you think Bitcoin will remain the most dominant coin both short and long term? Even though it does not remain the most dominant coin, this will not be the same as saying that Bitcoin won’t exist long term.
when you say dominance both short and long term , there's no doubt about it, no other coins can dethrone Bitcoin of being a king of all coins, price really matters.

I think that bitcoin was and will be the dominant coin. I see no reason to change the dominant coin. it is pointless. so bitcoin is the best coin and in its superiority one can not doubt

Bitcoin is the pilot coin. This is a fact. At this moment, all other coins are easily affected by changes in bitcoin price. However, we can't say if bitcoin will still be the best coin in the future. There are still other underestimated coins but their shine is still far to see from today but is not impossible.

if we compare about bitcoin value, yes it will be remain dominant, because the bitcoin price is far apart from other coins.
but it we talk about users, i think the ethereum network will surpass it.

It will probably remain dominant as it has the pioneers advantage; I say dominant, but it could only be ahead of all other cryptocurrencies by just a few percentage in terms of market cap.

In my opinion, bitcoin will be the dominant coin and longest coin in the long run because its parent bitcoin is derived from altcoin, and bitcoin becomes a legitimate payment instrument that starts in some countries so that this coin will continue into the future

Bitcoin, I believe, will remain the dominate crypto currency, but will not maintain it's first place rank based on market cap. I believe the ETH will overtake BTC in the not too distant future - "The flippening".

I'm extremely excited about the off chain developments (LN) that will increase BTC's mainstream adoption. It's simple, if there are issues or design constraints we must identify it and fix it.

Too many people are interested in the fact that bitcoin would stay on top and its price would fluctuate, then down, then up, to make a profit. But he deserved it!  Smiley

I think bitcoin will remain dominant cryptocurrency for a long period of time. Because bitcoin has now valued more than facebook and others. The network effects are really powerfull at scale. Bitcoin also is constantly improving even there is ups and down in the market. It has no intellectual property in cryptocurrency. Every cryptocurrency has to make their entire code base publicly in order to earn trust of new users and bitcoin is one of them. And that is a good consequence of being decentralized currency.

I think it will at least for the upcoming few years.

The issue is that almost all other cryptocurrencies are heavily dependant on BTC, and whatever happens to it, the rest will also experience.

I noticed during the market crash. The rest of the altcoins were behaving almost like BTC, going up and down in accordance with the BTC pump and dump.

Thus, I believe BTC will continue staying dominant unless another coin really proves being better than BTC, and beats BTC.

Yes of course. All alt coins came from the same root which is bitcoin. Even those forked from bitcoin they cannot dominate it. Every time people heard of cryptocurrency bitcoin comes first to their minds and alts comes second. So whatever happens in long term, bitcoin will still remain the dominant coin.

Tested by time and trials I can say that it's a big YES.
Even though it does not remain the most dominant coin, this will not be the same as saying that Bitcoin won’t exist long term.
When it became not the most dominant coin? I know that guys about what you are thinking that nothing lasts forever, technology is upgrading. But bitcoin is different, it's here to stay for a very long time and while it's here it will be a long time before it will become bitcoin 2.0 or an upgraded bitcoin will be launched as we've seen forks that most of it failed.

I can't say about short term, but if it's price starts increasing rapidly like last year, it should be pretty good to invest in for short term and it might the dominant among the other coins.
As we know bitcoin already is pretty good for a long term investment, as it's price is increasing and holding your bitcoins patiently would result in a lot of profit. So, you can say it is dominant and will remain dominant for long term.
Even if some other coin beats bitcoins, it would still stay among the top coins as it was the first and the original cryptocurrency.

It all depends on what type of dominance you are talking about. Bitcoin is suppose to be a global decentralized currency that should make global transactions a lot easier and cheap. It's supposed to be a good option for common daily purchases, and since it has a fixed limit cap, and is not tied to any governments it could also work as a store of value, just like gold. Basically is gold improved, holding all of its benefits, but going further because gold can't really work as a payment method and it's more dependent from the centralized financial system.

For this specific purpose, I do think bitcoin will remain dominant. Maybe not in the short term because right now there are coins that still have faster transaction speeds, and lower fees (even though the fees are much lower right now on the network). But on the long term, and if the lightning network succeeds, then I think BTC will be the most advance coin for these objectives.

If you consider just marketcap dominance, then I don't know. Maybe in the long term it will, because if it succeeds as a global currency, it will need a huge market cap, but in the short term, I do think that ethereum might switch places with BTC. Simply because ether will always have a much larger supply, and it's suppose to be work as a platform for tech companies, and now people are even talking that it could find it's place as a "bond" simulator. If it ever does this, and invades Wall Strees, then it's market cap will be even bigger than BTC.

Not saying this is a good or a bad thing. Both coins are great, and have different purposes, and I think both will be dominant in their goals. Don't really care about which coin will have the biggest marketcap.

The answer is definitely, bitcoin fans will always be and dominate, because bitcoin is the most trusted crypto currency of the global community, for the long term I think bitcoin will always be the top currency crypto

I know that most people just check coinmarketcap and that number which defines BTC Dominance, and it is much lower then before. But as Red-Apple say,new coins are created every day and they take some volume and marketcap, but 99% of them have no other application then to make some quick profit for team who are behind the project and those who invested in an early stage.

Only coin which is maybe a serious competitor to BTC is ETH,but with a three times smaller volume and some 75+ billion US dollars smaller marketcap(todays data) it is still far away to become king in the castle.

One thing which is most important is that BTC is only decentralized crypto currency,I think this is the greatest advantage that he have against all others coins.
Even though, many might say that nothing is really certain in this world, specially when it comes to market dominance, but there are statistical records that may allow us to pronounce that bitcoin is really dominating the crypto market world. We can review given data, that gives given status of the competing coins in the market.

Yes it'll remain dominant for at least a decade, Eth can give it good competition if bitcoin price goes down further. But in near future there is no chance for any other coin to dominate again bitcoin.

some interesting math that I feel I should put here because it is very relevant to the topic and what you said Cheesy

Market cap = Price * Supply
BTC MC = $9664.16 *        16,866,237 = $162,998,012,966
ETH MC =   $919.21 *        97,628,909 =   $89,741,469,355
XRP MC =       $1.12 * 39,009,215,838 =   $43,527,653,309

and that's how people are determining bitcoin's "dominance" these days!!!
