Why do coins have to be a store of value? All that does is lead to hoarding. How much bitcoin gets spent? Very little, people think of it like gold, or stocks.

The value of doge is that it can be used as a currency - in other words, to buy and sell real things in the real world. The inflationary side is a plus because it means people spend and tip instead of hoarding.

I disagree, the dogecoin has almost infinite amount of coins still mining everyday. This price volatilty is all purely hype of the people promoting it. People love “doge” so they love dogecoin as well. It has been promoted furiously through the years but it is not based on anything new, there is no technological background, just peoples love. As soon as doge loses its community, it is going down hard.

Since Dogecoin is an inflationary currency, it cannot be used as a store of value. The high supply of DOGE would make it difficult for price to ever increase, limited only by the people who support it or by pure hype.

Not having a development team that would take care of the stability of the cryptocurrency, would limit its ability to grow in the future. Even though Dogecoin is used for tipping and micropayments, it will reach out to a point where it becomes completely obsolete, eventually resulting in its death.

I wish that someday a new development team would take over Dogecoin, and make improvements to it for the long-term stability of the coin. Something like a hard fork to limit DOGE supply would be great to start with, but it will be up to the decision of the dev team and the consensus of the community for it to become a reality. Just sharing my thoughts.  Grin

Dogecoin seems to have a good future when its given importance only on the trading platforms. Same as other digital currencies it has the varying nature which will be preferred by users to profit. Also it get importance in the gambling network as gambling sites list dogecoin acceptance.

Highly inflationary even. But hoovering on a stable satoshilevel for monthes, so these two effects ballance out each other: adoption vs. mining.
The current lack of a devteam itches me too, if comparing with litecoin. Still stuffing all scrypt coins into the same bag here.

That is certainly true. Most scrypt coins out there lack true development and innovation, making them as tools for speculation, rather than becoming a usable cryptocurrency. Look at Litecoin for example, it lacks true development and innovation, copying Bitcoin's footsteps as time goes by.

Most recently, there has been support for LTC towards the adoption of SegWit, which could be plus for the cryptocurrency if it becomes active. But other than that, I believe that it needs more work from development and its community to help it reach new heights.

As for Dogecoin, it has a high inflation rate, and lacks development too. The bright side of these mentioned scrypt coins is that they're great for micropayments due to their cheap rates (like DOGE) and faster transaction speeds than Bitcoin (like LTC). Just my opinion.  Smiley

Dogecoin's greatest feature is its big community, it's got one of the biggest subreddits, always active. Of course, tech wise is just another altcoin, but community goes a long way. I can see it getting its good pump from time to time.

I think dogecoin has also a room in the future like other competitive altcoins. I think sending transaction is not the issue because mostly of them are already fast and easy. All of them have common features and small differences. Their success will depend on the users.

Agree it's a fantastic crypto.  What I like best is the quickness of confirmation times, which is so much better than bitcoin.
A lot of the altcoins are having instant transaction right now, like nem it just take a second to gets delivered. I will not gonna surprised if that wasn't a special thing in crypto.

Dogecoin and other cryptos are no different. Treat it as a currency, and do amazing things with it, and you'll never go wrong.

Yes I think it'll survive,  but I'm gloomy about its future price prospects.   In that respect I think bitcoin is gonna do much better.   But who knows,  doge could surprise us all.  Look at what dash is doing.  You just never know with these things.

It was hovering against USD as Bitcoin was rising. That doesn't make it a good alt to invest in though, even if it is better than some others that tank whenever Bitcoin goes up.
Maybe the rise yesterday was it, each pump is smaller than the last, as it should be with an inflationary coin.

I mean, at the end of the day, it is a coin based on a meme of a dog with bad English, it probably won't stay the course long term.

We live in an era where memes are everything. I mean Trump won the presidency with a meme.

Doge is by far the friendliest coin out there - it has had very good mainstream press (thanks to sponsorship of the Jamaican bon-sled team and that Nascar guy).

I'm not worried about the lack of new development, it works just fine, so why mess with it? Sometimes focusing on the social instead of the technical is just what a coin needs to make a breakthrough.

So economy impact rising, investing still not advised. That would render a future for tipping stuff, reddit style and such. DOGE has a nieche future where the biggest coin could not prevail (TX Fees!)

This is exactly what Dogecoin is, without ever really having said so. It is a niche coin, with a famed legacy of tipping/charity/generosity in the crypto community. So many other coins try to develop in their own niches (ETH for smart contracts, Monero for anonymity) but very, very few actually get used in their practical, intended sense. Doge has a niche market, and its future lies there.

Dogecoin is simple and funny way to introduce people to crypto. It is just fun. I don't think it will be top 5 currency, as there are more promising candidates like Byteball, but it will be top 10 still.

Take a look at the blue line at https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dogecoin/#charts that's the total value "Market Cap" of the complete currency.
Just "price" reaching 106 Satoshis like has been on 9/27/2014 pump or 126sat from 1/28/2016 (duh! actually that IS higher from pure BTC valuation) does not paint a complete picture. We are at 46 million Dollars now.

The mood point is about selling DOGE to a millionaire like one million cash, black suitcase style, over the counter for any amount of DOGE placed on a piece of paper. That might just fail. Exactly at this point the definition of "investment" fails.

So economy impact rising, investing still not advised. That would render a future for tipping stuff, reddit style and such. DOGE has a nieche future where the biggest coin could not prevail (TX Fees!)

Yes, DOGE will have a future... On Yobit, trading for 1 satoshi.
Just monitor all the altcoin you have because time to time they have a possibility to disappear if some other coin will edge them and has a great value, make sure that you will go on the flow on the community of altcoin and do not put your money in one coin you should invest in multiple altcoin to minimize the risk and also always careful invest only the money that you can afford to lose.

Dogecoin is an inflationary coin. While it may have a stable price and be very useful in micro-transaction, it is unlikely to attract speculative investors. So the price is not likely to take off.

That can be a good problem for DogeCoin. This coin can be packaged as a coin just to have some fun and can work in the long run. The fact that there are no updates and activities related to this coin can tell us that there is no good community built behind this coin and that is something we don't like. Having a community backing and working for any coin counts a lot. I am hoping that soon developers of this coin would be seriously working to make it another serious digital currency that can stand and compete with the rest.
you just don't know , bitcoin user = dogecoin user more than 50%
i believe top 3 cryptocurrency owned by people are dogecoin included
so i can say , bitcoin community member = dogecoin community member too.
