Bitcoin and Ethereum will not last forever. Time will come both of them will become obsolete and a better technology will prevail and replace them. But that might take a lot of time. For now, Ethereum is doubtless the next most trusted cryptocurrency. It will remain to be there alongside Bitcoin. Also, Ethereum is also fast developing. It doesn't run out of new updates and development. Other altcoin projects will probably remain inferior compared to Ethereum.

Nothing last forever in crypto currency, this crypto space is still new, under 20 years. Payment system is still new when it's under 20 years. There are also many new crypto projects incoming, does not rule out the possibility that new projects will replace ETH functionality in the future and people will start leaving ETH. The conclusion is, in this technology era, the better one will survive because the competition is trully tight

What's your opinion on this? Will Ethereum last forever? Or will it eventually die? Do you think it'll retain its place as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap for long? If not, why? Do competitors stand a chance against ETH? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
As long as crypto market is here, ETH will not die and yes there's a chance for its competitor to replace ETH but for sure, ETH knows what to do to address this and I'm confident that they are already working hard with the update so they can give a good service again with a lot more faster and a cheaper transactions. Many projects already came in the market and they are claiming as an ETH kill and yet, ETH is still standing strong in the market. ETH is the top altcoins, competitor must work hard to beat ETH because this is not an easy battle for them.

It's hard to say if it's gonna be there forever. But i believe it has a chance to surpass BTC and become the crypto #1. It's improving and makes a lot for crypto market and not only when BTC is just a store of value.
don't agree because btc can't be beat because if you remember cryptocurrency then you will remember btc

Ever since Ethereum was created in 2015, the whole crypto/Blockchain space improved in many ways that were never imagined. The ICO trend of 2017, and the current "De-Fi"/NFTs hype are all attributed to Ethereum's ever-rising popularity in the mainstream world. If it wasn't because of Ethereum, we wouldn't had a plethora of smart contract platforms to choose from. The crypto/Blockchain space would've been focused solely on finance, instead of serving as a hub for decentralized applications.

It's been 6 years since ETH came into inception, and now the smart contract platform is the second-largest blockchain network in the world. Some people compare ETH to BTC because of its focus on decentralization unlike any other cryptocurrency on the market today. As of this date, Ethereum has a large number of miners and nodes keeping the blockchain alive and healthy. If ETH continues to grow, it could live alongside Bitcoin for many years. But we all know that nothing lasts forever.

What's your opinion on this? Will Ethereum last forever? Or will it eventually die? Do you think it'll retain its place as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap for long? If not, why? Do competitors stand a chance against ETH? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
There is nothing that last forever, every thing nor every one will disappear one day. Etherium is one of what a man develops and eventually gonna die in the future, for now we all have use it in different ways, earning it, making profits from it, develops another contract through to it but it does not mean it will lasts forever.

Ethereum is the only altcoin that has a specific relationship with bitcoin, Ethereum will last forever as long as many platforms are still cooperating this is a positive thing in Ethereum movement in the future, now many also use the Ethereum network so that the popularity of Ethereum is always maintained in the top altcoin position

Indeed, ethereum is a coin that has the biggest community which made the erc20 network remained in its strong momentum and I think that's what makes it more effective on several projects that tie up with them. Being second to bitcoin, also gather praises from investors and holders, because in times of btc's progressions there's an immediate movements that attracts eth price to increase so fast due to bitcoin and ethereum exchange alliance like their specific demands on several trading sites.

Honestly, it sometimes comes out in my mind to question the capability of Bitcoin and ETH before but seeing their market improvement and development, I'd stop thinking negatively for them instead to become positive for their future. But we if are talking about forever, nah, we can't assure that and it was because our existence in this world isn't forever nor that someone could continue to take care of crypto.

Ethereum probably lasts a long time if there are still many supports from the crypto community and crypto world can exist. But, there should be the time to be over, nothing lasts forever. Other altcoins surely can overtake Ethereum although we don't know when it is. Just look at the BNB coin, it is one of the real examples of a strong competitor. I think it is only about time, the BNB price and its market caps are struggling to reach Ethereum.

Without Bitcoin, we would have not seen the crypto market and the blockchain industry as big as of now.

Without Ethereum, we would have not seen the big ecosystem for smart contract platforms as of now.

Ethereum contributes a lot to the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Don't let scam projects eliminate all contributions from Ethereum and Vitalik.

Bitcoin is the root of everything related to crypto/Blockchain tech. It paved the way for other projects to gain traction in the mainstream world. The same can be said about Ethereum in the area of smart contracts and "De-Fi". With how successful the world's second-largest cryptocurrency became, it looks like it'll last a lifetime. The community is alive and vibrant as ever with new projects joining the ETH ecosystem. Without the original smart contract platform, Binance Chain and other alternatives wouldn't had existed today.

It's a good thing the Ethereum project has a talented person like Vitalik Buterin. His high-level IQ will lead the project towards non-stop success. As long as he's alive, Ethereum will only grow bigger in price and mainstream adoption. Just my thoughts Grin

I agree that nothing last forever but at least as of the moment, Ethereum is here to stay just like bitcoin. With different projects and ideas that's being made on its chain.
That makes it more reliable and there's more on it to be made which such ideas that's being done by the developers who never stops making new projects.

Ethereum have changed cryptocurrency sphere for good!  We have more services on ethereum network more than any altcoin out there. The future of ethereum is however great if it continue on some of the important concept that made it great! Decentralisation is going to be huge in future finance and many other sector. Easy and cheap transaction will lay a good solid foundation to mass adoption of ethereum  and these are few things ethereum foundation should focus on!

There's no certainty in anything in life, and even less in crypto as still new and fast developing industry.

Will Ethereum last forever? Hell, no one can 100%  be sure that Bitcoin last forever (or anything else for that matter), let alone some altcoin project that has competition like Polkadot, Solana, Cardano etc. But if you ask me will Ethereum outlive huge majority of other altcoin blockchains, I would say yes.

It is hardly possible to say now that any cryptocurrency is eternal. Nobody knows what will happen to cryptocurrency in ten or twenty years. Now we can say which types of cryptocurrencies are promising for growth and development. Of course, first of all, it is ethereum, which has the most developed platform and network of smart contracts. After the completion of the current update, its popularity and demand will increase several times. It is predicted that according to some characteristics, ethereum may well surpass Bitcoin.

It depends upon how successfully they are going to migrate to the new algorithm, now there are other forks or copied out of the same code that can do the same job as ETH like BSC and it is gaining popularity and if there is any messing up with the migration then we will remember these as a novel idea that messed up big time. Time will tell what will happen in the future.

Ethereum's potential to last forever is impossible in my view, there will be many more to be perfected in the future, basically they also want to occupy the second cryptocurrency, is it possible that Ethereum can maintain its position forever.

We can see this possibility from the number of coins that appear on the market, in general their competition is more stringent and open, which will later come out as the number two cryptocurrency are those who have won the trust of the public, both in quality and quantity.

However, for the next 2 years, I still believe that Ethereum is still able to maintain its position as the second largest Cryptocurrency, considering that for now the movement is still very good in the market, and the market trend is still very stable. .

Nobody can tell wether it will survive the test of time like what have already said. Ethereum will most likely have Eth 2.0, 3.0, 4.0...until ETHernity to compete with new blockchains that also uses smart contracts.

Gen 0 - Bitcoin
Gen 1 - Ethereum
Gen 2 -
Gen 3 -
Gen 4 -

so on and so forth.

Nothing last forever, but I believe it will last long enough. So far as crypto exist Eth will. The only thing there will be, there might be more advance blockchain than that of it in times to come which will reduce the way people adopt and make use of it, and in turns it will also reduce it's value.

Ethereum won't die because of the adoption in our daily stuff. Recently, India becomes the fourth country to roll out blockchain-powered educational documents and they'll use ethereum blockchain to do that. Not only this, miners will continue their activities for ethereum as all of them know that they'll be on profits in the upcoming bull cycle. Also, there are more competitors of ethereum in current market and vitalik will sure to do the best thing for ethereum.  Wink

It's hard to say if it's gonna be there forever.
The main point is as long as there will always be miners/node (POW) or Validator (POS) and then ethereum will still alive. This is how ethereum network was running. Internet could become the main reason why it will be last forever. These days internet has become the main thing for anyone.
As long as the are validators or miners and it will still alive

The main advantage of ETH is decentralization, and the disadvantage is known to everyone is scalability , the author correctly writes that everything is not perfect, and perhaps we will see a new project on velechin that will be compatible with ETH, but it will not be soon.Once ETH finds a solution with scalability, it will not be equal to it.
