There are hundred and thousands of coins that fall under the umbrella of alt coins, but there are only few coins that should be considered alt coins like ethereum, monero, ripple etc remaining are just sh*t coins. BTC is competing againest these few solid alt coin, not every coin is market is worthy enough to be considered alt coin.
Personally I agree with this definition, there are very few alternative coins to bitcoin and you can easily see this is the case when you go to any website that accepts bitcoin and you will see that they do not really accept too many altcoins with a few exceptions like ethereum, litecoin, monero or dogecoin.

But the rest of the coins of the market of which we have thousands of them are not really known by anyone except their developers and those that used their money to invest in them.

Impossible to say. Everyone's waiting for the altseason but there's no guarantee if it will happen at all. My opinion: alts will rise after BTC bullrun and even then it's a big question how long.

I do not think that we would see another altcoin season in the nearest future, because there are no announcements that would make it happen. BTC is the only coin that is doing business at the moment.

There could be but for sure, no one knows when will such thing happen in this industry wherein the market still, is struggling with the volatility of the prices of crypto. Recovery is still blurry so assuming for an Altcoin season would also seem to be untrue. Also if altcoin season stands for overtaking Bitcoin's place, it would seem to be absurd knowing how huge Bitcoin is to be taken down by alts.

First of all you shouldn't consider Ripple as altcoin Wink I understand that you used this example because it is listed on Coinmarketcap.  Wink Smiley
But I agree that most altcoins that have fallen almost to zero will never rise again. However, when the situation stabilizes, certainly many of those that have been "forgotten" such as Electroneum have a chance for huge increases.

It's difficult to know what any of this is really worth as actual current use-cases are thin on the ground. It's all expectation of future use, which is why the markets are so speculative. In the past I think alt booms have correlated with high market confidence... which is lacking at the moment. That being the case I would expect any new upwards movement to be led by BTC, thus increasing BTC dominance. Probably (possibly) an 'alt season' will then happen once prices are higher across the board.

Not your Keys, Not your Bitcoins
In my opinion there is obviously a lot of upside potential for many project/cryptocurrencies that are actively being developed. Most of the altcoins in the market won't see the sun again I'll admit that. And they don't deserve to.. On the other side there are projects like Ethereum and Stratis(i mentioned them because I actually now that the development is going on) which if they keep up the work and expand their network they will rise together with Bitcoin. That is not guaranteed of course, but it is a high probability for that to happen from my perspective.

I truly believe the Altcoin season finished in early 2018 and with more and more projects competing for a space on CMC but the actual market cap not growing beyond 250 billion over the last two years, for me just means that most altcoins are in for a round of pump and dump by signal telegram groups and that's it. Unless there is a real big cash injection in the whole COINMARKETCAP and some of the projects excel in innovation and tech, I do not see another altcoin boom coming in the near future.
Until now, perhaps everyone's definition of the altcoin season is probably the value of the altcoin pumped and dumped as you said, they need such green signals to achieve the profit goals they have establish, and in recent months, altcoins are recovering at a staggering percentage every day, the altcoin season has no end, it's still happening every day. But this is also a conspiracy to keep us in this market because without an altcoin season like now, people soon abandoned the market when bitcoin only made the value of altcoins go down every day, which meant killing everyone's hopes

I think since 2013, ICO not like now which a lot of tokens can created and maybe about scamming people, we can't simply make conclusion about it. In trading, profit or lose is something that can't be considered as scam because it is other people's decision. What i see in past is what scam people is something like cloud mining, HYIP and doubler site that easily took a lot of money from people.
There are certain rules in trade, which are regulated by the law of different countries. One of the violations is insider information about the issue or additional issue of tokens. This is an example.
I actually don't know about rules, because in past we can trade freely in exchanges. Specifically for bitcoin and altcoins, and i don't see any restriction for some countries and it is changed after trend change too. When a lot of tokens come maybe government only want their citizen not get scammed with that kind of investment and they make a lot of rules and now some exchanges force their users to do KYC.
KYC is made by many exchanges not because of problems with Altcoins. This procedure is done so that the Exchanges know their customers and in the future fight against illegal financial transactions.
Maybe i am wrong. Because i only know that in past every citizen can trade freely in altcoin exchanges. And now for come countries it is restricted like for example for US citizen usually can't trade in some exchanges. For ICO, in whitepaper said that make sure not US citizen.

Wait when the moment after Halving Bitcoin occurs, then I am sure there will be a time for the Altcoin season which will dramatically increase in price. I speak like this because of the experience in 2016 ago, where a year after Halving Bitcoin, Bullrun happens very quickly. So stay patiently waiting for the Altcoin season to arrive.
Yeah, probably worth the wait but some people don't like to wait and it seems that the waiting game is just too much to handle. That's why most of these altcoins hoarders are losing their faith in cryptocurrency, leading to selling it for a small price.

This proves that altcoins rely too much on BTC because BTC accounts for more than half of the market. The failure of Bakkt's launch made us more aware of that. Altcoins will return to the market when BTC begins to recover and rise again, at which point the altcoin season will begin.

I guess it will happen again. Probably as soon as everyone get back into crypto, just like it was in 2017.
Weak hands get shooked off and strong hands will dominate. Stack up your altcoin portfolio asap!

There is always going to be an alt season, it may just not be anything like 2017-2018. Many alts may die out before the next bull and we could see 10 to 20 coins going 10x. Last time was insane because every shitcoin went 10-50x also, I hope that doesn't happen again. Genuinely good projects should see an increase I hope. I think 2020 will be alt season, maybe some more known dumped alts in the top 100 will start to gain traction towards the end of 2019.

Never say never,,, and never say always;)

Just because it has always happened before does not mean it will happen again, especially when alt seasons have not had a long history yet. For sure, every time it happens means higher likelihood for it to happen again. If alt season happens a few more times in the next 10 years then for sure people can always look forward to the next cycle.

But it has not happened yet!

I think this could be like you said because the price condition of bitcoin which is not too good anymore makes traders disappointed because before Bitcoin is said there will be bakt that makes prices go up but instead it is only FUD so many traders are more turning to altcoin to try to take advantage of the moment on altcoin.
Partly the investor is unhappy with the fall of Bitcoin. And just against this background, perhaps the investor will now come to Altcoins. This is due to the fact that coins are at the lowest price ranges.

Perhaps, the investor is not happy to see the fall of bitcoin. But if they still hold bitcoin for a long time, I am sure they will be happy because they can see what they invest in bitcoin can give them a big profit. That will happen too with the altcoin, and more investors will come to the altcoin besides bitcoin because they can see a chance to make a profit again. And once that thing can happen, we will see another altcoin season arrives, and that means, we all can make another profit in bitcoin. That will trigger the market to recover fully. But that is only speculation since we don't know what will happen and we can hope that it will happen soon.

Actually I'm holding an altcoin and I regret it since all of them got dump when bitcoins price drop so badly, And I cannot even take to hold them up for a while since the stigma of losing still in my mind that's why I choose to trade my new alts when profit shows already in my stack. And I would suggest to hold those alts who are in top list since new ones are prone to dumps.

While our altcoins keep depreciating in value daily as we keep vigil for altseason, bitcoin dominance has crossed 70% and keeps growing in strength. Will there really be an altseason.

What do you mean by “Altcoin Season” I don’t think there’s such a thing because what I believe is all currency in crypto are independent so each will grow or fall by demand and not for what ever reason

The developer and marketing’s team will be the responsible about their currency performances so if this one will grow or that one will dump its them to be blame or praise
But what we have to do?choose the right one before investing and stop trusting shitcoins that will bring you instant profit
