Thank you for this input as I will be doing this very soon. I am very excited to leave, but understand that I may get homesick/miss people. I can see why it is important to understand the culture, before immersing yourself in it. There is a desire for home, but there is also a desire to be free...which to choose.

I agree, You will also feel the importance of your family's presence when you are alone in other country working. The sacrifice of being away from them just to give them a better life is one of the way to show them how much we love them. Sadly, there are family members who also take advantage of the person who is working abroad. My prayer is that all of the people can stay in their own country with better opportunities so that they don't have to leave their families. Its not always about the money we can give but also our presence and time to bond with them.

Good point. I think I can answer this by experience. My mom is working abroad, and although she has only been there for a couple of years, I sometimes feel sad that she's not around as often as before, not only me, but my siblings as well. Even if we're already adults, we are so used to the set-up that my mom is around and could help us at any time, or can talk to us whenever we like. It's a big adjustment, but it's not that evident because we're adults now, and we just don't want to be crybabies about it. But, it surely is a big sacrifice not only for the person working abroad, but also, for the family that is left behind. Fortunately, technology makes everything closer.

Working abroad will never easy as it is never easy taking on different culture than yours. Being away from your love ones and celebrating holidays alone, but these sacrifice will teach you to become stronger than how you can imagine in terms of physical, emotional and mental strength. And in some fortunate aspect becomes stronger as well. Its sacrifise to be miles away but always you are hoping that in exchange of those lonely days are crying nights, you wil get the kind of life you have always dreaming.

Its a sacrifice that not all people can understand.

I can understand it. Because I am residing many thousands of kilometers away from the city in which I was born. I hardly visit my hometown once every 3-4 years and as a result I have lost contact with a great many of my distant relatives and friends. And as you said, don't expect everyone to understand all this.

Working abroad does not always means freedom as it means a lot of sacrifice for yourself and family you left. Its a sacrifice that not all people can understand. Everyday you are counting days when you finally reunite with your family and will never have to leave them again.

I worked abroad and have some experience about it.
Yes, it's sacrifice if you have to separate from family, wife, children etc.
But, what if you had to live your country because of war, no possibility to find job, if you lost your family, home etc.
In such cases, it's greater sacrifice to stay in your country than to go out and start new life.

Second is to know the rules of your target country. Some country especially in middle East have very strict rules and  if you guys come from an open city then u have to adjust a lot in their rules.
Third and most important is be mentally, emotionally and physically prefered.,you will come there to work. You need to sacrifice a lot of things and even your family. As for my experience homesickness is very hard to beat especially when you are used to do things with your love ones like celebrating ocassions. Here you will celebrate those days alone.
So if you guys have other tips on working abroad please comment here and share your thoughts.
I hope this topic can help people who wanted to go to other country for work.I wish you goodluck guys.!
Working abroad is a difficult situation between you and your family. You have to give up many things just to give them good life. Sacrifice, hardwork, patience and diligence are some of your virtues that you need to have and to bring when going abroad to work.
If you are already there, you need to familiarize yourself with the important places like police station, hospital, banks, market, pharmacy and government city hall or ward office so that if you have a problem, just in case, you know where to go.
Yes, and practice your patience to get longer is more important.

It's a sacrifice because you get separated from your friends and family. It is also inevitable for discrimination to be present in the country that an overseas worker is in, especially because of his/her different race.

Adjusting to the new settings can be quite tough. My hometown is just a few hundred kilometers from where I work and reside. But even then, it took me many years to adjust to the life here. The cultural shock was severe, in the beginning. I was not fluent in the local language and the natives were always looking to fleece money out of me.

Yes absolutely correct. It is very hard because first and foremost, you are working thousand of miles away from your family or love one. In that reason it is very hard to wake up every morning realizing that you are the only one in your home. Then you need to work alone, in the morning no one will cook for you, no one will wash your clothes, no one will help you just your self.
Working abroad is so hard,  your enemy in their is homesick, loneliness.  Here in my country more of filipino is OFW.  They sacrifice for their family,  to provide their needs. Especially if you have your own family,  because you always think your children,  and your partners in life. More sacrifice because you cant go home for your children birthday,  christmas,  and new year.

Yes sacrifice is really the best word in working abroad especially so when it is your first time to go abroad. Sacrifice in the sense that you will leave your family and need to work abroad for them. You will be missing a lot of activities with your family while you are away with them. A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, and must empty ourselves.

As a citizen of a country that there are more people that work abroad than work here in country its hard to have relatives working abroad. We only see them once or twice a year and if were are lucky each visit would be 1-2 months the first time my relatives went abroad it was hard and during the holidays its easy to miss them but today we are sloghtly coping with it and throught techonology such as skype we are able to talk to them on a regular basis. My tip if you are planning to work abroad be tough and patient and think that you are working for your loved ones dont’t let the sadness get to you because think of the brighter future your family would have.

We all agree what you have said, it is hard to work abroad and lots of sacrifice, and it is one of the reason why one family will be separated because of that, while you are away and you feel sad and emotional you need to look for other things that will help you conquer that sad and most of all they are doing meeting other men/women and after that they will have a relation until you and your family will be broke up.

I really think it is, it is difficult to work away from your country and home. It's even more difficult to work away from your family. You really need to take care of your health because no one would take care of you if you get sick. Working abroad is a lot of sacrifice. Most people who work abroad are those people who would like to provide for their family.

I guess it can be very difficult, it's been 10 9 years now that I am living in another country. I am at 800 km of my family and I guess compared to some of you, it's not a lot. However, not seing my family whenever I want makes me sad sometimes. Especially when you have friends in your new country that can see every week their family

It is indeed a huge sacrifice. A great many people from my country have the inclination of leaving to seek greener pastures abroad just to make ends meet to help the rest of the family back at home. This however comes with serious consequences. First and foremost, the developed countries frown against immigrants without the relevant documentation that will permit them work legally. Obtaining these documents could be tiring.Secondly, many immigrants aren't employed into very good jobs that will attractive huge salaries because of qualifications, education, and the like. Also, pressure from the family back at home can be so unbearable to the extent that immigrants find it very difficult to make life comfortable for the people back at home. These are a few observations that have been made.
Granted, working abroad is a lot of sacrifice. However, the requirements to work without stress complicates things the more.
