Verified awesomeness ✔
I just got an email from "[email protected]" saying that trading will be suspended for 24 hours. It reads:

Quote
"Hello everyone! and apologize for the delays and lack of communication are currently working on some design improvements / server. During the week we will update this page with the status of the project, given the final stage where we are.

Steps for Tuesday March 4, 2014:

Please check if your balance in this file is correct (Same your wallet balance) .. And replay asap if you see any problem."

And then there's a PDF file attached.. which I will not open. I don't believe this email to be legit.. it has several spelling mistakes and why would Bitstamp ever need me to confirm my balance. Seems very fishy.
It is a scam email. Ignore it. I have posted about this, which you can see if you click on the link posted above (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.5522452).

A VC Fund performing an Audit - that doesn't seem right...

Is the rumour true that Firestart are aiming to buy Bitstamp?

That was not an audit - that was a joke. I've never been worried about Stamp... Until they published that "audit".

Would love to see statement of assets and liabilities signed off by a reputable audit firm on a regular basis.

Ditto.

Given bitstamp's #1 status they should step up their game regarding audits. The previous audit was rather unsatisfactory.

Dear Bitstamp clients,

On November 22nd and 23rd, 2013 an on site due diligence was carried out in respect of Bitstamp Ltd. on behalf of a 3rd party.

Bitstamp’s balance of BTC was validated by temporarily creating the largest single Bitcoin wallet and in the process the largest Bitcoin transaction in history.

The report identified that Bitstamp held 100% of validated BTC balance and USD funds. No material issues were raised as a consequence of the 3rd party’s investigations.

Original statement

Best regards,
Bitstamp team

1. When do you expect to announce the deal if succesfully carried out (including the name of this ''3rd party'')?

2. Will the transaction value be announced as well?

They did not reveal the third parties who audited, 0 trust for now. If it was http://www.firestartr.co/ , still 0 trust, it must be by the big 4 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Four_%28audit_firms%29

How so if goxers were left living under a bridge?

Wrote to support some 16 hours ago, and didn't bump the message. Lets see what happens, so far no answer, but that is still ok since I suppose support is crowded since the closure of gox.

Anyone from bitstamp to comment on this? It has been 6 days
What kind of SEPA transfer? Withdrawal, deposit? How much? Are you verified? do you have 2FA?

It a SEPA withdraw, nothing serious 200 USD, I have been verified for months now, answered KYC 2 months ago, and I do have 2FA. I just wanted to test the withdrawal time, but seems there is a problem with them. A month ago everything was going smoothly, transactions never got "in process" for this long, it was max 2 bussines days. And it's 5 now, and no one from support is answering. For me, it is kind of an alarm, since we all know how it was with gox

We always aim to process all withdrawal requests as fast as possible to the best of our abilities - for most customers this means on the same or on the next business day.

If any of our users notice an unusually long time before getting their withdrawal request processed without receiving any communication from us, please contact our support by submitting a support ticket and we will make sure to look into your case and resolve it accordingly.

Also please remain patient and refrain from bumping the ticket with additional messages until you have received a reply as this bumps it to the bottom of our queue and may thereby further delay our response.

is there any data showing that Bitstamp and BTC-e are helping investigate the theft of coins from MtGox.   They should be in there helping to find accounts associated with the coins.  It's in their own interest and the bitcoin community to show that it can self-police and help find thieves.
And I'm sure that naturally, you'll be the first in line to contribute to the BTC self-policing fund? Or should it just be them?

I'd be happy to.  The only folks who don't want to see it are people trying to hide money.

You can't stop it and it will happen more and more (exchange cooperation in thefts).

Where I live, we say "mind your own bussines", I think the best that Bitstamp and BTC-E can do is do their own thing, they already have more on their plate than they can handle without playing internet police.
