Why does mining take up so much ram? Is it possible to do something about so I can start mining?

It is done, the wallet now has 2 aliases : @blockology and @1blockologist but need checking for sure, I did solomining for both addresses but who knows someone else had other purposes and find blocks quicker than me.

I wonder where to check the aliases, because usually they are on boolberry.com/networkstate but now that link is empty.
BBR daemon has the RPC command get_all_alias_details() for listing all aliases. The following uses my script (https://github.com/teknohog/bittools) for a cleaner printout:

Code:
$ cnfo.py --listaliases | grep blocko
1blockologist                    1Cv4vnSqasdDN3fmVii6SMedjg2deD1SnKkMcVa3juPx3HGxCFTMnitX4y2YSKYbT9DGeKHxYHkLxjH1W9R5YdRYEPbLHPR

We have large whales in BBR that wisely bought low while CZ was absent. Moving forward a % of them want to divest some of their holdings.

Meanwhile there are whales that would like to enter BBR but find it difficult because of liquidity.

I am going to facilitate an OTC market. If you are interested in large BBR purchases OTC I can help facilitate this.

For full disclosure, I own 2.275% of BBR but will not be selling it OTC or anytime in the near future for that matter. I am facilitating this market for others.

keep the word up! I've been working behind the scenes trying to get this going too

and
second it is payment id?

altogether as one string this doesn't work for you? no payment id

Do you have address alias ? Is @1blockologist reserved ?
Edit. Now solomining for 1blockologist for that address 1Cv..blabla lets have the BBR way...

We don't have an alias

Would like to reserve @blockology @1blockologist

two blocks needed! we will only be testing the mining clients as other people are interested in the decentralization of the network already in a competitive way

Why does BBR mining come under DDOS? Its not even that valuable at the moment. Why is someone even doing this?
It is probably mined by small group with FPGAs, and they are responsible for DDoS attacks. As someone said earlier this is private coin...
Not likely. No FPGA that I know of has the internal memory for the scratchpad, and if you're going to use external RAM chips, you'll basically have to reinvent a GPU to match the memory access speeds.

Even Monero and Aeon don't have FPGA miners (as far as I know), and they only use a couple of MB of memory, vs. 100+ MB for BBR. In fact, they are more efficient on CPUs than GPUs, because at that size you can use the higher-level caches of decent CPUs.

Scrypt of Litecoin ended up with FPGA and later ASIC miners only because the memory usage could be compensated with extra computational work. It's like generating bits of the scratchpad as you need them from a smaller amount of data, instead of storing all of it in advance. Unfortunately, that won't work with BBR, because the scratchpad comes from the blockchain itself.

Disclaimer: I developed some FPGA and GPU miners back in the day.

Alias @1blockologist has been created, very lucky got 2 blocks in 8 hours, now will create @blockology also mapping to that same address.

Actually the miners just have to update the scratchpad correctly.. currently it only seems some are doing it correctly, this one for example:

https://github.com/tpruvot/bbr-cudaminer

Is using the initial scratchpad.bin which you download and then increments that scratchpad with the new hashes which are given by the pool when a new block starts.

So this miner is just requesting the last block and works well, other miners start with the scratchpad.bin you've downloaded and with every round the request more and more blocks.. because they are not incrementing the .bin...

The longer they run, the more blocks are requested up to a certain point where its so slow that the connection drops

The scratchpad has always been a painful piece of work, I don't know how many times I've had to re download it. It just keeps getting bigger n' bigger, there have been times I've had to stop mining because of download

restrictions of my ISP. If 1blockologist is going to take over development,it would be a good place to start and sort this out. It is so painful to have to re download scratchpad after a reboot because you've had to do

some update that requires a reboot, or suffered from a power failure.

Cheers Jon  Wink

I wish the scratchpad can be generated in gpu memory like that genoil ethminer or claymore ethminer. is it possible dev mbk ?

I get some reports from users which are unable to connect to https://bbr.suprnova.cc after mining sucessfully.

Your scratchpad.bin is outdated, get a new one from here: https://bbr.suprnova.cc/scratchpad.bin

It seems not all clients download them reliably.

It is probably mined by small group with FPGAs, and they are responsible for DDoS attacks. As someone said earlier this is private coin...

can't we make it more expensive for them to do this, more machines to DDOS?

The network has rate has more than doubled since my announcement and subsequent price increase, so keep up the public fight

Are there code upgrades that could/will make setting up and maintaining mining pools easier?

clintar2 mentioned there seems to be memory leak in the miner, I wonder if other communities encountered this, or if it could be a unique problem with the wild keccak algorithm

No DDoS, but the clients get "out of sync" over time.. They seem not to update the scratchpad.bin - it should be incremented with every new block, but the miners keep requesting the last X blocks when they started.. Which reaches a certain level a some point where it fails - you need to redownload the scratchpad.bin and it works again until its outdated.
