There is no Slack group for Monero. Maybe you confused with the Slack group for HyperStake, which is completely unrelated to Monero.

Aminorex is a sucker for pompous verbosity.

I get that a lot.  I think of it as using the best words to most accurately convey a thought, sometimes at the expense of easy reading.  Some people prefer 8-bit though.  Capture the essentials economically:

Fastidious connectors are good though.  They are less likely to spread diseases.

Prophylacticated barriers prevent communicable diseases.

Translated from verbose pompousity:

Condoms are your friend.

That was pretty economical, you have to admit.

But not extremely explicit/accurate in it's meaning.

This has potential:  http://test.casheer.net/mission/

I'm glad you used the word potential.

Casheer platform launch October 2015

At least they have a "Passionate community builder and fastidious connector" on their team Smiley

Aminorex is a sucker for pompous verbosity. Just read his comments through that filter. There's some decent information to be gleaned. Maybe not this, though. You should be extra-wary whenever devs or CEOs start talking magnanimously about shit that *might* be released in a year from now.  I generally assign such projects a probability of 0 of ever coming to fruition.

For the record, the install script from the getting started page successfully installed 0.8.8.7 .

actually, it specifically installed: 2014-Dec-29 21:35:35.066784 bitmonero v0.8.8.7-f4675dc

interesting daemon notes:
2014-Dec-30 00:41:28.434234 [P2P4]###### REORGANIZE on height: 369806 of 369806 with cum_difficulty 319681729064686

2014-Dec-30 00:41:28.547030 [P2P4]REORGANIZE SUCCESS! on height: 369806, new blockchain size: 369808

so, at least the daemon is excited!

and im assuming this is still the old database because it was gobbling up 33% RAM on my 16 gig system.

But I was able to run simplewallet, and it gave me the new mnemonic, and found my old coinage.

Noob-approved method to get monero updates (im the noob):

(i'm assuming here Ubuntu, with the ability to have multiple windows of terminal, and that you know that ./ will execute a file, and using a GUI to drag .n drop files, because I'm a noob, and you could be one too, and thats OK, because linux)

1. exit wallet, daemon
2. rename bitmonero folder to bitmonero_old_date (for archive purposes)
3. goto http://www.monero.cc/getting-started/index.html , and copy the second linux command thing listed under Source (item #2 on the list), paste into terminal
4. Watch the magic of compiling. Choose NO for download blockchain (you should already have it)
5. When finished, fire up the daemon, which can be found (with other executables) in bitmonero/build/release/bin
6. Watch the magic of p2p blockchains
7. goto the bitmonero_old_date folder, locate all of your wallet files (.bin, .bin.address.keys, .bin.keys) - copy these files to bitmonero/build/release/bin
8. goto bitmonero/build/release/bin and run simplewallet with your old wallet file
9. write down mnemonic in as legible handwriting as possible
10. send me some monero : 46aRPgXEgqf23G2VU5fy4oeKBGpU6uXSv57CkXKrz4EbDwDeh573QQhZYeyjriWAMUhNoBHMUwkGV2A 2ppWwAx4JT9HNJ9h

(edited twice - once for type, once for more details on daemon version)

Will there be a Missive Today/Tonight?

For your info:

What about new missive?

Do missives stay officially Monday's or core devs have changed Missives' schedule?

Let's be realistic about it. The Monday schedule has been the exception rather than the rule. Consider the "Monday Monero Missives" to be a bit of alliterary license from here on out.

Missives will be released when we have something ready to report, often weekly, but not always.

Yet another showcase where Monero could safe-the-day by preserving anonymity: http://slur.io

ADD: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/slur-io-going-hate/

Not sure if the association with such a thing would be worth it. Bringing XMR into this kind of mix would only create a bad image for the coin.

I would argue that it is a beneficial, pro-social application, and would make XMR awareness grow within an important, activist demographic.

welp, its not like we have any control over who uses the currency. Its only a matter of time (if slur.io gets off the ground) before people realize that bitcoin is easily traced and they start looking for alternatives.

Interesting application of cryptocurrency though.

Muther of fuckery. When the Alphabet Agencies get wind of this then a shit storm will ensue. I would expect it to occur on the first sale of something incriminating and juicy for the media.

EDIT: as per a commentator: Unless the Disseminator of the info can be validated then all kinds of false releases will occur for the quick buck.

Nothing really new, other than the medium/method of exchange for the info/currency.

You do realize that journalists write articles every single day where they relay information from individuals "closely involved in the project" etc., correct?
In some cases the identity of the source of the info is actually unknown to the journalist.

IN the USA, under law, journalists are no longer allowed to keep sources confidential. http://rt.com/usa/nyt-risen-leak-espionage-336/

Cool, all the more reason to utilize Slur or whatnot, so that a journalist doesn't know the identity of a source.

Sounds like he's saying they were coerced.

NSA probably dipped into the dossiers of judges who would not comply and showed them what they had on them.
