I like the logo.

Perhaps add some gloss to it like the Apple logo? Or not. It's cool Smiley

4. In order to maintain ISO 4217 compliance, we are changing our ticker symbol from MRO to XMR effective immediately. This change primarily effects exchanges at this early stage, as we are sure that MRO will continue to be used colloquially and in general discussion. We are aware that this may cause a little confusion, but we feel it necessary to make this change early on rather than later when Monero is more widely spread.

Sorry guys, but Im not happy with how things are going! The logo is dull and plain as hell and doesnt stick out among 100 generic insurance company logos you can find in any phone book. Thats not even the troubling part. What really grinds my gears is that apparently you tackle the "professional" approach to run this project from the wrong end, submitting to some BS ISO compliance codes and choosing generic company logos for a project like this in a community like this is clearly the wrong way to go. You are supposed to think outside the box and not try to fit in it! This is the Crypto Revolution and not some credit card scheme 2.0. Please take the courage to be original, the community will thank you for it.

Agree.

Logo has zero artistic value...
Zero connection to money...
Orange has zero connection to money...
Was the person who made the decision Color Blind?

Over the centuries few things have inspired Great Art... as Bank Notes and Money.

Just google "Bank Notes" and get a blast of Great Retro Art = money:

It's not too late to ditch this amateur hour fail.

I like the Missives post and hope to see more of it regularly to keep us in the loop. Thats where Monero could shine over Bitcoins detached development team. Pls go on!

It's open source. Why not fork and launch your personal revolution? One could argue that's the point of open source.

You could even put in the emission change instamine you were demanding earlier. Tongue

I understand and agree to an extent. But how does one shy away and be orignal in terms of most Crypto Coins, when in turn that means shying away from the "Crypto Revolution". Originality lies within the code and the future that will be added on top.

Bittrex and Poloniex will both incorporate the latest rpc changes that were made to monero - you can just send from one exchange to another then.

what to do when i got this one?  Huh

Code:
2014-May-12 06:23:00.201575 [P2P1]ERROR c:\temp\bytecoin\git\bitmonero-master\contrib\epee\include\net\abstract_tcp_server2.inl:307 send que size is more than ABSTRACT_SERVER_SEND_QUE_MAX_COUNT(100), shutting down connection
2014-May-12 06:23:00.209575 [P2P1]ERROR c:\temp\bytecoin\git\bitmonero-master\contrib\epee\include\net\levin_protocol_handler_async.h:638 [90.220.5.84:18080 OUT]Failed to do_send()

is this a problem ?

It won't break your daemon but it does cause extra connections to be opened. If you see a lot of them it is best to restart your daemon.
thanks for your reply

yes i have 100's of them inside my log, but after a restart it runs smooth again.

i just hope it does not happen while im sleeping  Grin

otherwise i would just make a small Catch n replay script that restarts the deamon from time to time.  Roll Eyes

A few of them are no big deal. Nothing really bad will happen if the error occurs while you are sleeping. Just restart it if you see a lot of them.

This is the most pressing bug right now IMO. It needs to be fixed soon. I have increased the max send count to 1000, but this is probably only delaying the inevitable.

The logo doesn't seem work that well on dark backgrounds, so I took the liberty of brightening it up a bit on http://kippo.eu. I hope I don't get sued or something.  Roll Eyes

^^ I'm truthfully being honest and not trolling at this point in the space time continuum...

But that logo for Monero, with the orange and black, 2d look with no dimension, depth nothing, and futuristic/childlike font...looks awful...

Truthfully truthfully, it looks extremely childish, kind of resembling a pokemon ball...I doubt anyone looking at that logo would take Monero very seriously....

Logo is very professional. You are used to seeing coins with logos that fit the mold when it comes to crypto currencies. This is a logo I would expect to see from an actual company

Bingo. We talked to actual advertising/marketing professionals independently about which to pick. This was consistently in the top so we deferred to their judgement. 90% of cryptocurrency logos are garbage that solely appeals to 15-25 year-old Western males. This is money, which is something to be used by everybody. Maybe that's not the current state of crypto, but it is the goal in the long run. This is also why this coin is named Monero, not Quazarcoin or something like that. Wink

Whole heartedly agree.

Satishi's paper described how one block is settled on, with the assumption of a random walk (not always correct, but correct to a point). As far as the actual network, there was another paper that measured bitcoin's propagation delays but I can't find it right now. There have also been some threads looking at propagation on ultra-fast coins such as DOGE (60 seconds), but again I can't find the links right now.

Also interesting to play with is a node simulator I remember seeing. I think someone posted a link to one on this thread, but at 200+ pages, it will be hard to find.

Thanks smooth!

Is this the propagation paper you were talking about? http://www.tik.ee.ethz.ch/file/49318d3f56c1d525aabf7fda78b23fc0/P2P2013_041.pdf

Good read on that one.

This one wasn't bad either, for a precursor to understanding a node simulator: http://www.cs.sun.ac.za/rw778/files/2014/01/2014T1.pdf

Yes that's the one I was thinking of. Good job finding it!

The logo is final. Minor design tweaks (kerning is still not quite perfect) sure. Revs in a year or two like everybody does, sure.

Major redesign since it failed to please 100% of the people 100% of the time, just no.

Any idea how many coins there are mined daily?

1440 blocks * 16.5 = 23760

Actually its should be a little less than that
