Hash Rate is rising Price too!

I believe from past experience hash rate follows price. Not the other way around.

yeah and then we all know what happens after the hashrate spikes after a price spike, when all them opportunistic miners find themselves with boatloads of monero.....

.....pump?

First intraday support band for XMR looks like 260k-270k range.  Second support 248k, and third support 228k.  Such a wild ride!

Of course on a daily or weekly basis, it's still in a confirmed uptrend.  That won't change any time soon unless it breaks all intraday support levels, hard, with a bullet, which is a <1% chance.

My guess is that we make new 2016 highs in August, somewhere between 500k and 600k.

So … what is the consensus on how far XMR is going to retrace from this current move to ~ .003 ?

More importantly, what do you think would happen if 1 or 2 Gh/s were added to our network?

A 2GH/s hashrate for Monero would require a ~80x increase in price and market cap if we assume no change in mining technology; namely still the same CPU / GPU mix.  So we would be looking at around 160 for XMR/USD and a market cap of around 2 billion USD, in order to support such an increase in hashrate.

My take is what is driving up the hashrate in Monero and down the hashrate in Ethereum is the change in XMR/USD and ETH/USD, since the cost of mining is effectively tied to fiat.

If Ethereum gets into trouble with their hard fork change to a Centralized Virtual Currency (FinCEN definition) and some of some of the capitalization moves to Monero then the impact on Monero will be first felt on the price and then on the hashrate and not the other way around.

My nodes are showing 24.09 MH/s for the Monero hashrate so it is climbing.

It's like traders are looking for a coin to use in case btc crashes after the halving . Eth is pretty unstable now especially if you consider the upcoming hard fork, and the litecoin seems outdated. Monero has a good chance to be the chosen one this time.

hope you are right Cheesy

I would really like to know why fluffy has not responded to my question in the main thread when I see him posting drivel on reddit. Has the team given up on BCT? Even smooth has been conspicuously absent recently. I figured it was the holiday weekend (US anyway) but now I wonder.

I have been busy and reduced time on forums. Not absent though. No idea about fluffypony, but I know he has not spent a lot of time on bitcointalk for quite a while and has been more active on reddit and twitter (and maybe others).
