I have not experienced any problems with poloniex since I have not recently done any withdraw.
Anyway now it looks like Poloniex has temporarily disabled NEM deposits and withdrawals. It is written on the balances, deposits & withdrawals site, not on alerts & notices site. No reasons are given. Has anyone else experienced this?

Poloniex has been having some issues with their withdraws and their support, so they are now in a bad position in terms of trust. I think people are starting to migrate to other markets now.My polo problems were actually due to my mail transfer agent. Maintaining an MTA is too much drag, but I definitely need a new one. Any good mail hosts that take XMR?

When creating a paper wallet with the gui do you create a view only wallet? Or a regular one and then delete the wallet file from the computer after writing down the seed?

Regular one. View wallets are created from regular wallets, i.e., a view wallet is basically the private view key + the public address of a regular wallet.

In USD terms we are down about 10%, so BTC's USD fall is currently being mirrored (roughly) in Monero's fiat value. For now...
I hope it will change as alt money looks for quality and the recent P&D frenzy cools.
If it fails the worst that can happen is me ending up breakeven or with new monero

Well HitBTC has lots of fakevolume, watch their orderbooks... they are way to small to warrant such a volume
Yes fake volume like was done on the Chinese btc exchanges until those exchanges were forced to stop. Yeah they have 2x the vol of Polo
Others have reported issues with HitBTC.

Withdrawals are now working fine for me with no problems. Poloniex was just overloaded.

Poloniex has problems these days, Tether is a bit controversial lately. Probably combo of those two. Also, volume on XMR is usually lower after it has moved up, fading away little by little, until it gets boosted again.
