It's a propaganda piece. Clear as day.
The Zcash devs are most likely not even interested in any rebuttal.
The only purpose of the piece is to exist as an easy to remember URL that can be routinely dropped into conversations pertaining to XMR from a SNARKS perspective. The question that most fatigues the SNARK developers at conferences is "Is it better than Monero?" to which the obvious answer is actually "No, it's not." However as recent reports indicate, these type of questions are often smeared into oblivion with retorts such as "Monero is a bitcoin clone" and other opportunistic gems targeted for an audience who don't know better. The existence of an easy to remember URL that can dazzle aforementioned mindless targets is all that this piece is really intended to be.
And you can bet any money in the world, Joel Valenzuela (aka Ass Clown of the Year) is already tapping away at the keyboard preparing another follow up piece for the CoinTelegraph.
Monero devs doing the hard research work for all the cryptoworld - the other coins steal it and FUD Monero - nothing new... Monero is so much superior to every other coin that it is getting boring. BTW instant XMR transactions in Kasisto are coming soon. Actually so much super stuff is coming that every cent I have or mine is going to Monero.

I think all the privacy concerns except one were made moot by the January 2017 RingCT hard fork. Have you taken a look at transactions using a Monero block explorer lately? Yes IP can possibly be linked to a transaction but that can be avoided easily using Tor or VPN and Kovri later this year will solve IP leakage permanently.

First off this paper has misleading claims that "66% of inputs so far" have zero mixin. Inputs that had 0 mixin before it was mandatory in early 2016 can still use a mixin. This is not really a problem.

This is precisely why we should actively be fighting an XMR vs SNARK war and leave lesser 'competitors' to rot.
You mean we should be slagging off Zcash instead of slagging of Dash?
No. Forget about Zcash and forget about Dash. Dash is a lesser competitor that should be completely ignored, but Zcash now only exists to reimburse the Zcash developers for developing SNARKS. It has no prospects of longevity other than that.
At this point XMR's chief nemesis is an Ethereum-zkSNARKs alliance. Everything else is a lesser competitor.
That's where the guns should be pointed.

I didn't read all of this "Empirical Analysis" paper and I don't intend to, but all the bold claims there are known for years (Edit:and possible solutions too). It seems to me like pure FUD.
