I ran some more tests on testnet, this time with mikaelh's builds:

hp1: 25 blocks found in 28.77 minutes = 0.878 blocks/minute

hp2: 49 blocks in 21.4 minutes = 2.29 blocks/minute

hp1: 6 blocks in 12.4 minutes = 0.484 b/m

hp2 is looking much better. I ran hp1 twice, once before and once after the hp2 run, to see if the first run was bad luck but it seems not.

These numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, they were run on testnet which has a pretty low amount of processing power run on it. So if someone with a nice machine was mining will I was testing hp1 it could have thrown off those numbers. I do not know how to tell what's happening on the network as far as total processing power or the number of other miners at this point. Is it possible to run a private network for testing?

I'll still be running hp2 though.

Another interesting point is that both hp1 and hp2 were reporting around 2k pps.

I looked at the log files from my tests again and if "ProcessBlock: ACCEPTED/ORPHANED" means that someone else has mined a block then there was more mining going on during the hp1 tests. Not much more, hp2 still found blocks at 2.3x the rate of hp1.

Just checked over my logs with this build have 3 "ERROR: AcceptBlock() : incorrect proof of work" on 2 different machines that are not listed as orphans, anyone get that?

Hey, to compile that for windows x64 what version of mingw64 and gcc should I use?.

I used the MXE build environment to build the binaries on Linux. It simplifies the process a lot.

Here are the versions used by MXE:
MinGW-w64 Runtime version c28722c
GCC version 4.8.1

Other versions may also work.

Are you using a service provider such Amazon? If yes, how much does it cost you to run that per hour?

4.5$ per hour

I wonder if a big botnet or some rogue sys admin with 100s or 1000s or good machines has jump in. Difficulty is already 8.35.

URGENT!!!!!

Has anyone else just seen a 25% drop in PPS?  I'm getting this on every single machine/VPS I have running.  Happened in the last 30 mins.  Perhaps due to the >8.0 diff increase?

Yes pps dropped even more than 25% on my rigs.
Yes down from 6143 to 4208

same drop here..

Same here, but I've gotten two blocks since the drop, which seems luckier.  I wonder how the difficulty gets calculated if not by PPS.  Because a network wide PPS drop you would expect a diff drop too. I derped, per Aggro's post below.

Edit: in another thought, the difference in diff rise between releases of hp1 and hp2 indicates clearly that hp2 is doing better.

I am using two similar Core i3's. One running WIn 7 32 bit on 4threads is giving 700 pps while the other running Win 7 64 bit on 3 threads is giving 1.5k pps.

Seems that the x86 version is lagging in performance.

Maybe we'll stop having a block per second now.

Looking at the information panel of the qt help window, I just counted 10 blocks in 40 seconds Sad

Yup, blocks are being produced quite rapidly. Also difficulty seems to be climbing pretty fast. It just hit 8.1.

and i get orphans....
might want to check you're not on a forked chain.  Maybe delete and redownload the blockchain.
