I have searched and not found so I am asking a rather elementary question.... What is the significance of the number to the right of the period on bestshare? What does that number mean (to the right of the decimal)?

I take an example for you to know difficulty and target in bitcoin network
Today, the block with bloch height: 726543, was found by F2Pool  pool.
F2Pool got a hash value: 0000000000000000000a0e711d57f1a3916ba51df413256f15f220bdb9f22ed8,   19 x '0',  a0e711....
For this hash value, a difficulty can be calculated by a formula,  difficulty is 27.99 T.
Now, bitcoin network set a current network difficulty is 27.55 T.  Once 27.99T > 27.55T,  then,  F2Pool found the block, got $$$$$$.
27.55T  is about  27, 550, 000, 000, 000.

In cgminer,  when a hash is hashed out by asic chip, it calculates a difficulty with the hash value. Then, compare it with past maximum
difficulty value. Then, record a new maximum difficulty value as the best difficulty or call Best Share difficulty.

Best Share (difficulty) is the best hash value you mining machine has achieved or worked out so far in this run.

In bitcoin mining, an extreme small hash value is sought for a block header data.  Hash value will be from 0000....00 (64 x '0')  to ffff...ff (64 x 'f'). Which is a space M for sha256 algorithm space. This space M can be divided into a lot of small space n1, n2, n3, ......nm.  So,  smaller than 19 x'0'  hash values is a specific space for bitcoin.  So, this specific space is a target space (space T). Smaller than 19x'0' hash value is  called target.

I don't know what is distribution of sha256 output hash value.  But, normal disribution is bell sharp, medium section got more chance to come out, extreme chance on both extreme end. More extreme smaller space, more difficulty hash value will fall in this space.

well for starters, it could be that the post you got instructions from was made 5 years ago. much has changed and it's hard to imagine anything from that tutorial would still work.  but it also depends on your hardware...i suggest doing some further research on mining bitcoin. there are endless sites and tutorials and threads that are posted just this year. they will give you a much better idea of how to get started. if you still need help after that, come find me here and i'll do my best.

That's very rude, uninformative, and unhelpful. Proxy setup is a configuration issue. Not 1 single helpful sentence.

whoa there, calm down.  i said i'd help if you still needed it after you did some more research.  if you had responded with what kind of hardware you are trying to mine with, i could at least point you in the right direction or tell you if you even can use said hardware.  so what hardware are you trying to start mining with?

Hi everyone, this is my first post!  Cheesy

I'm able to use ckpool and I would like to use ckproxy. I'm getting this error:

(base) self@vm:~/ckpool/src$ ./ckpool -A -p
[2022-03-06 23:16:04.960] ckproxy stratifier starting
[2022-03-06 23:16:04.961] ckproxy stratifier ready
[2022-03-06 23:16:04.967] ckproxy generator starting
Segmentation fault (core dumped)  Huh

On steps before this, I followed this tutorial:
https://linuxadventuressite.wordpress.com/2017/11/26/how-to-setup-a-solo-mining-pool/

and my steps were:

$ sudo apt install build-essential yasm
$ git clone https://bitbucket.org/ckolivas/ckpool.git

cd ckpool
./autogen.sh
./configure --without-ckdb
make

edited ckproxy.conf (as recommended in the link above), and finally ran ./ckpool -A -p. Wondering what I did wrong, because it's been tough to guess. Many thanks in advance.

1.5T. I needed 26T right?

Almost there  Cool

nice work! I'm curious...how long have you been mining solo? it looks like your number of shares is similar to mine and i've been at it solo for just a week and half.  my best share is 11 digits so I'm still 3 off  Sad

you are on the list (update on the main list --> https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/groupbuy-solo-mining-blockparty-2022-number-16-5387628)

#################################

Blockparty Run 16 --> we start if the last 1 or 2 seats are filled

Hello all,

let's go to the next group buy from Hashingpower.

As already requested by some forum users I put a new group buy for solo mining. Start at the earliest after the next diff reduction.

~15-18 users for each 0.01 BTC can participate. A higher number is not useful, otherwise a possible profit will be much too small.
If smaller amounts than the minimum amount are allowed in a single case, then the calculation of the rewards will be based on the amount of BTC deposited.
Hashingpower is rented on Nicehash and shot on the solo pool.
The status of the group run can be observed during the runtime via the Live View link.
Here you can see what our hashingpower is and what our highest share / bestshare is.

If a block is found, the reward will be paid out to the participants.

Lets go and let us find a block

In the past we had found 9 blocks --> 188 BTC!
Block list: 385022, 394940, 394946, 395087, 396941, 399709, 401934, 706369, 712217

Those who want to participate send their BTC to the following address 3KWE8HcunSfvfNBy3CdXZdQ2HyvierBxeT and post their participation with the following template:

Please send your coins only if there is still a place available.

Again two people have sent coins although they had no space. The effort to manage this increases and increases.
FROM NOW I CONSIDER EVERY TX SENT WITHOUT HAVING A PLACE AS MY PERSONAL DONATION.
If you are unsure, ask first!

To make it a little easier in the new year, I've decided to do the reservations differently.
In the new year there are only reservations for people who pay at least 10 block party runs in front.
If the quota is exhausted, the place will be automatically free and someone else can use the place.

Specifically, we start with the Blockparty Run 2022-1 and if someone sends 20x 0.01 BTC at the first time, he is practically permanent until the Blockparty Run 20.
If someone joins the Blockparty Run 2022-7 and sends 10x 0.01 BTC, he will be a member until Blockparty Run 17.
This simplifies the organization and places are not permanently taken by the same people, unless someone sends 50x 0.01 BTC for the 50 planned Runs.

If we should not create at the end 2022 the Runs, for which someone already paid, the last Run in 2022 all payments are used around longer to run.

Please send reservation amounts only when you read an OK from me!

Hello all, willi9974 when do you plan to do the next block run? I want to either join or buy some hash to mine separately at the same time at solo.ckpool to increase the chance.
we start if the places are nearly full, hope this week...

TTBit is a cheap and rude Gekkoscience copy.

It should not be bought and little people know support for it.
Also, this pool thread should not be the place for hardware specific discussion. You should go to the hardware -subforum.

I'll stick with the Newpacs then.

Hi

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Possibly a can of worms here but is it possible to run NewPac and TTBit in the same install of CG Miner 4.11.1?

My NewPacs work in isolation (on the Gekko windows installation) as do my TTBit (on an older TTBit version 3.92 i think...)

Having read through a lot of the relevant forum posts I can see that there are 'issues' with TTBit miners for a variety of reasons, but every little hash helps!

I do have a PI4 ready to mine from but for now, I am using Windows 10.

All help/advice is appreciated (and without being too arse kissy, it is impressive reading all of your achievements over the years and the community spirit you have!)

edit: and I am mining solo with CKPool, so hopefully this is the right thread!

Are places still available, I'm interested in joining.
yes, we have seats free.
send your coins to the btc address in the copy & paste template and write your TX, your value and your voting.
you can post it here or in the german main topic, that is also in englisch (and german).

See you

Hello, is there a way to get notified over email if you hit a block?? It would be a nice feature. Thank you.

Just get a wallet with an app that notifies you of a deposit, nice hash, binance whatever
1) Those are third party sites and not under your own control: not your keys, not your bitcoin. Don't think that is very smart.
2) some sites do not accept coinbase transactions as a deposit so if one is to use one of those 'wallets' then make damn sure they allow it.

When you say make damn sure they allow it..... How does one do that?

Ask them  Wink

I received info back from Coinbase.com.   Answer: "you can not and should not use your coinbase account to receive any mining rewards or block reward."  So, that's out.  I am running a full node so i can always use that address.  Good to know that coinbase doesn't accept/allow that.

I use the BitCoin QT wallet, I control my private keys.  Sure it's an extra step to send coins to Coinbase, but at least I control the keys to my wallet.

I second the opinion of using Bitcoin core. It's what I have always used and yeah it takes like 300GB on my hard drive but that's not that much so it's whatever and I control my private keys and it's all mine to manage.
