Hi all.  I don't know if I am supposed to just reply to this thread with a new question or start a new one.  Let me try replying and someone can tell me if I did it the wrong way.  Thanks in advance.

I am trying to solo mine using cgminer 4.11.1 to do some hobby/lottery solo mining using 3 GekkoScience NewPac USB ASIC miners.

No matter which flags I use I cannot get past the error of Share above target.

My start command is here ...

       cgminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u BTC_address_removed.Worker1 -p x --gekko-newpac-freq 200

And my results are here ...

Sure thing.

Just send it to the solo pool address.

we have 0.0175699 left in the account

I went light on fees and will try to push it.

Good got it confirmed and saved a dollar or 2.

Note my trezors are a mess due to multiple transactions the wallets slow down and take a long Time to clear.

At the moment fees are decent so I consolidated the ck funds and they now sit in this address below.

 about 0.01755 btc

https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1ECKcYnb3iVmqodaR3fFodnhRFmBssZeUF

Make note if you want to donate to it.

I want to update this.

I have 0.01755 btc in my coinbase account that is the donated money.  I made a lot on my doge holdings on my trezor wallets and found my trezors froze the doge for 4 days.

So I am less happy with using the trezor for longer holds.

I have 0.01755 btc which is about 1053 usd held. I will hodl it till June or till coins get to 100k.

So coins are on coinbase and are safe.

I will then send to ck.

Thanks, everyone! 1PiY here...

I've always watched this thread closely over the past 5 years and have always appreciated everyone's support and kindness for one another. Usually I just mine away in the shadows...

Keep mining, everyone, it AIN'T over yet!

And THANK YOU @ck for making this wild ride a possibility  Smiley
You're most welcome and congratulations. It takes serious balls to throw that much hashrate at solo mining and it paid off for you.

I have 2 questions. I am running a somewhat Dinky 70TH/s setup. Is it possible for the 10PH/s maniacs to literally steal a block from me? Also, I noticed whilst re-reading the intro "Unlike regular pools, ckpool never mines transaction-free blocks due to its ultra-scaleable code which has miners on both new blocks and transactions concurrently." and I was curious what the problems are which are associated with "Transaction-free blocks."

Thank you for at least the idea of a lottery pool. I guess I just want to be assured it truly is one.
No, there's no stealing of blocks. These days with blocks being only 6.25 BTC, transactions are a bigger part of the reward than ever, regularly constituting over 10% of the reward. Now that bitcoin is exceedingly popular, transaction counts increase and a block without transactions do not benefit the network at large, delaying transactions. There is also the risk of creating an invalid fork when building on transaction free blocks, which has happened in the past, invalidating all blocks built on that fork.

Hello, newbie here!

I'm using cpuminer-multi with -u my_address -a sha256d -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -t 4 with my_address being my wallet public key... It has been running for a couple of weeks now but if I try to check my stats with https://solo.ckpool.org/users/my_address I receive a 404...

Can someone please help me understand how to fix this?

cpuminer output looks good, I'm receiving jobs from the stratum channel... e.g.:

[2021-02-28 23:41:55] solo.ckpool.org:3333 asks job 4294967295 for block 672620

Thank you!

As stated in the post above CPU Mining for BTC is really not that advisable. If you want to earn some crypto with your cpu I would advice mining an Altcoin whose mining algorithm favors cpus like Monero or Veruscoin. After collecting some rewards you can exchange them for BTC or you can use hashrate rental services like nicehash (if you trust them) that pays their workers in BTC. But dont expect much profit unless you own a few high end server-grade processors.

CPU mining for bitcoin is like mining rock for gold with a toothpick. The rock never shows any effect whatsoever and doesn't even known you're mining. That's how the pool is. Please don't waste your time CPU mining bitcoin (or GPU mining for that matter.)

Thanks for this explanation, it's really useful and intuitive. I also found additional reference where it's explained more in-depth:

@HarrySquater The difficulty set by the pool is basically just an accounting method which allows a bit of feedback from the pool to you. If the pool only accepted 21.7T shares then none would see their hashrate because the pool wouldn't know how to calculate it. By also accepting shares lower than the network difficulty however the pool can calculate your hashrate and give you an indication that you're actually mining and you can see how well your mining rig is performing. So no, you don't need to adjust the difficulty set by the pool.

Thanks for the response. I already read about that stuff and rn I'm playing around with a few  USB Antminers but I would also like to know what is the information that is being logged by the miner. In my case I use BFGMiner.

Hello everyone! I was able to connect to the pool and start mining. Although my hash rate is tiny I would like to know what exactly happens when I get a message like
`Accepted CPU 1 Diff 17k/10k`
Do I somehow need to adjust the difficulty that is set by default (10k) to be closer to the pool difficulty which is currently 21.7 T?
Any reference articles on that where I can read the explanation myself? Tried looking it up in few places already but to no avail.
Thank for your help!
Forget mining with CPU or GPU. It does not make any sense even as lottery.

Not seeing stats for such slow rates is normal on this pool. Actually it makes no sense at all to try with this. Please consider NEWPAC usb miner if you want to have some fun with bitcoin mining (at least to see your stats Smiley))). Not for earnings. You will earn nothing. It's also very doubtful as a lottery. Use solochance.com to estimate your chances of finding a block.

LOL, not even sure if this a serious "accusation" or just a "joke" I surely don't have the greatest sense of humor.Roll Eyes, however, if you carefully read my post and the one which I replied to, you will see that I dropped a bomb of possitvity and optimism and explained "in some detail" how solo mining chances are not all that bad compared to the lotto as opposed to what has been mentioned in the post I quoted.

With that being said, I am sure you are not a newbie just as sure as I am of that fact that I am nowhere near experienced, we all are here to learn (maybe except for the other person you compared me to Grin).

it was a drunk accusation mikey  Tongue  but i will give you this, you take criticism well.   you didnt get all keyboard warrior like i did  Sad

Stale shares are normal your miner may have been working on some work and a new block was found before it could submit hence stale work. getwork fail not sure about.

Thanks.   Just wasn't sure if it was normal or not.  I found the info below - but i think maybe it was my miner's network connection.

ST: STaged work items (ready to use).

SS: Stale Shares discarded (detected and not submitted so don't count as rejects)

NB: New Blocks detected on the network

LW: Locally generated Work items

GF: Getwork Fail Occasions (Pool server slow to provide work)

RF: Remote Fail occasions (Pool server slow to accept work)

Is something up with the pool?  Been mining a few weeks now, never a stale share or a GF - but  yesterday i had 17 stale shares and GF: 2

ST: 1  SS: 17  NB: 3600  LW: 1623749423  GF: 2  RF: 0

Does that occasionally happen?  I'm a newbie with btc mining.

The most known lottery in Poland: you cross 6 out of 49 numbers. 6 are drawn from pool.
The chance for hitting all 6 is 1:13 983 816
You can win 2,5mln EUR

Bitcoin, chance of hitting a block a day with 70 Gigahash (I mine for fun with) is 1:14 993 148
You can win about 180k EUR

Actually buying a lottery ticket every day to win 2,5mln EUR is wiser.

A great analysis but I have reasons to believe that it's a bit far from accurate, the 1 in 13m chance you have with the lotto is once every week, while the odds for hitting a block which you mentioned is based on a shot every day, so for this to be a bit more accurate you need to multiply the lotto ticket cost by 7, and then if we were to assume that the average lifespan for the miner is 2 years, then you will need to multiply that by 730, so if the ticket price is 2$, you will pay $1,460 to match the number of trials that a miner can have.

I am aware that there are other prize catogires of 3,4,5 matches but I think the prize is too small ot be considered, you also need to keep in mind that when you hit a bitcoin block you keep all the rewards and nobody can share them with you, where in the lotto, you are subject to share the prize with x amunt of people, on the othre hand, playing the lotto means you won't have to pay the power bill, no matiance, no cleaning no dead PSUs or a firmware glitch.

There are many more factors invovled to determine which would be econcmically better, I don't have the time, skills nor the desire to do that in-depth analysis (pehabs someone who does play the lotto and solo mine at the same time can do it) but I do tend to agree that perbaps and most likely playing the lotto is cheaper than solo mining.

With that being said, Solo mining is way more fun!! Grin

hey mikey,

i dunno what crawled up your ego and died to make you such a technical negative "karen",  but youve been a big ass debbie downer on simple solo mining questions asked here. you're starting to sound like another previous member who started their own mining site and only comes here to criticize the "not so experienced coder" members.   please take your negative criticism to more advanced areas of this forum.   we want simple stats, that say my puny 450Th will give me a
Chance per block: 1 in 376,480
Chance per day: 1 in 2,614

thats enough info for us noobies.
thank you kind sir
please take it down a notch on your expertise
