t depends on how much you want to risk and how big profit you expect. Bigger risk equals bigger possible profit.
Keeping ETH is probably much less risky than buying some altcoins, but the short-term profit is also quite limited. Buying alts can bring you much bigger short term profit, but is also much more risky.

I bought 5 ethereum when its price was $350. I was selling and buying ethereum but I missed big pumps. But I only hold 1 ethereum and I still hodl. I realized that holding is the best. I am planning to hold my 1 ethereum until 2020 and I wanna see what price it will be. I will also read my this post in 2020.
I have seen so many alt coins that were cheaper and I was holding on to ETH thinking it will pave out. I wish i bought altcoins with it as that would got me some profits.

Did not want to loose the only ether as i lost my Previous eth in Confido scam. Please advise.
You can split it up. Keep some ETH and also get some other alts. During the dip is the best time to buy some new Alts as you can profit when the prices start to rise again.
Ethereum is not going to give as big profits as in the past so keeping part of your money in ETH is only going to limit the amount of money you can earn if you really want to make a lot of money in cryptocurrencies you will need to take some risk at some point to make your money grow. 
Ethereum is good to hold, no doubt about it. But if you want to gain a lot more. I suggest you buy undervalued coins based on ethereum. Buy your ethereum with low supply coins but cheap and with potential in the future.
Well yes it is more profitable to invest in the alt coins of value less than a dollar , because you can hold many of them and even if they touch a dollar milestone than you would earn a huge profit instead of keeping a big coin well eth also had a good profit nowadays as it suddenly increased to 1400$ from 600% means profit more than 50% well you just hodl what you can avail in good amount whether it is eth or some alt coin which is below dollar

I yesterday spent 0.5 ether on buying alt coins. And some of them have already given me a good profit. This profit is greater than the growth of the coin ETH during this time. 
1 eth is a good start for investment and long term holdings but you should also invest other altcoins that has potential to pump, in the past days altcoins in the market including bitcoin is dropping its value and now they are starting pumping again.

I think you must invest your eth to other altcoin if you want got a profit .i recommend you invest in ripple ,because ripple have good future for holder.

Mathematically it will be better to buy other alt than holding an ETH, compared to prices rate increase other coins has so much pump compared to eth. For me eth have become just a mode of payment or used in transaction lately.

really what you say, part of eth you save and the rest buy altcoin to get profit, I suggest buy Worldcore .. because the price is down Investing in coins is too slow. Yes at present ETH has move significantly in less days so chances are that uprise may not now that huge and in comparison buying some altcoins can give you some easy money if they rise quickly within a short span of time. Keep some small % in ETH and rest altcoin can be bought. For e.g
