If you be given a gift of 1BTC by someone and for you this amount is already something you did not expect. Will you sell your bitcoin right away and convert it into cash or just keep it for a better price to come or invest it or what?

If it was a gift, then the purchase price was 0 dollars. unless you know how to trade, or are really on top of the news and think you can predict the trends based off of it, you will always do better to hold.

think years, not months.

if we pull up the historical btc price chart, it only really goes up ( the mt gox slide is protracted, but doesnt follow the general, undeniable uptrend. therefore, it seems like in this very bullish market, you would do well to simply hold the btc. at the very least, wait for us to regain 5k again. we will most likely surge past it (to be honest, wait for 7-10k)

The way I see it is that regardless of how much bitcoin you have, you don't actually own money that you can use until:

1) you convert the bitcoin to USD or whatever usable currency there is in your country
or
2) Bitcoin becomes so widely accepted that it can be used anywhere.

Haha, don't take this the wrong way but you see it wrong. If you have money in your possession, you have full control to make the decision to spend or save you do in fact own money...by definition.

Understand the point you're trying to make, but you're still incorrect. Even though the utility of money is use as an exchange for goods or services, that remains true when you save money. You're acquiring more of that utility and increasing it's power as your balance grows.

You might be confusing the concept of "paper gains/losses", which doesn't apply to money but investments. Meaning that even if you've shown a gain on a statement you don't actually realize the gain until you sell.

I would be so glad to have it and im not going to sell it or convert it into cast instead im going to hold it and keep it in my wallet because there is a big chance that It will increase more especially when the price of bitcoin pump. I will invest some of it so that when I got lucky i will get a profit but if not its okay because only few of it that Inwill put in investment so that i wont regret if i lose it.

It would be a very happy day if someone can be inspired to have a good heart to share to me a big 1 BTC but I really doubt it if there can be anybody out there who will do it for me haha. Anyway, just in case there can be a big miracle and it will happen, I might keep it for one year and see how Bitcoin can be doing one year from now...and I would wish that its value would soon be getting into the $10K level...and then I will convert half of that to fiat money I can use for a small business and let the other half remain in my wallet (I must buy a physical wallet by then).

Now, I am begging for anyone who can read this response to please consider me in your list of possible beneficiaries of the 1BTC Raffle 2017 so I would have a chance to get a little bit rich through your generosity. I can even accept just a tenth of that amount...so that more can be beneficiaries. Just PM me and I would gladly share my BTC address to you. Thanks a lot.

If im need of money on that point then im sure i would able to sell directly on those bitcoins specially if you dont have too much interest on it then you will do such thing since you wont really bother to keep it for long term but if you do know its usage and potential to the time it has been given to you then you will surely save up that bitcoin for long term since you do believe on its price increase on near future.

If ill be given that big amount of bitcoin I'll definitely withdraw 40 percent of it so we can pay our loans and debts. Its been a burden in my family paying those every month but we dont have a choice since we badly needed money when I gave birth. I will hold the remaining 60 percent hoping it will get big returns in the future.

I will choose the latter, it's a gift that's why i should keep it and make sure that the price will be the highest before converting it into cash, and i think it's really impossible to received such a big amount, well nothing is impossible though it may happen to me , i just hope it will happen soon.

I think I would keep as BTC the USD value that the coin represented when it was gifted to me.  As the coin appreciates in value, I would sell small portions of the coin (to keep the fraction worth around the same as the 1 BTC value was originally) and invest in some solid altcoins.

In other words, keep the principal, diversify with the gains.

But then again, all of this could change and should be reevaluated if market conditions warrant adjustment.

With the current price getting a coin as gift is simply big. In the past days when the price was around $450 I saw my friend receiving a single bitcoin as a gift. During those days I was not a bitcoin user, thinking those days at present makes me realize how I missed those days.

Well it is unexpected for me if i will receive 1 bitcoin from someone. If i received that kind of gift, i will not spend it right away. I will invest it and make it more bigger. And after i earn a lot from it, maybe i can also give back 1B or higher to that person who gave me an opportunity to earn more bitcoins.

If I was ever given such a perfect gift; I will split it.
60% of it will be Bitcoin; I will invest it by holding it till the price top high then sell it.
Then the remaining 40% will be used in buying Ethereum; like bitcoin, I will also hold it till the price is high, then I sell them.
Its a double win  Wink

I think for me i will keep holding and only 10% i will be spend for something and 60% is for trading bitcoin to fiat since we do not know when the price will increase and decrease better to trade your 1 bitcoin is enough to make a good profit in trading but you should not to sell them all or trade them all just few percentage to sell if you made a profit the current price and sell again if the price is continues to increase just few percentage and sell them again if the price increases just don't sell them all because we do not know if the price continue to increase or not..
But bitcoins if the price was decrease a lot and sell again if the price was increase again with good profit..

1 bitcoin as a gift from someone for sure I will invest it into bitcoin and altcoin. Where as I can earn huge profit for investing as my money will grow. Bitcoin price may increase in the upcoming years so I think holding is the best I can do.

I will definitely hold it, 1 bitcoin now is worth $4500 but in the next month it can be $5000 if I hold it longer it maybe can reach $10k, so the longer I hold the better the value will be, it can be a great investment for me
I prefer to just hold it not to invest it, the sites nowadays is full with scammer so I like to play safe

I convert 0.3BTC into ether. And keep this for 6 months as a long term trade.

I hold 0.3BTC in my wallet. I never cash it out before $10k clearly.

I use 0.4BTC on day trading, this would generate me some income every week.

invest it of course, you can get the best out of your money if you let it earn so investing it would be good. That way while waiting for bitcoin to increase its price again, your money is also earning some profit through investment.

Depends on the situation.  If i need cash they I will convert it to cash according to how much I needed.  I cannot use Bitcoin to buy my basic needs, I have to convert it.  And if I do not need to convert it then, I will just hold it or possibly invest it in an altcoin trade to try my trading skill and earn more bitcoin.

If I ever someone would give me a gift of 1bitcoin definitely I would be happy. I will cashout little to spend for my family and some of it I will hold for a good profit. I wil hold for a long term investment as the price may increase and I can earn huge profit.
