I think both are promising projects with solid teams behind them; good choices! My bet is both will do well over the next several years. Continue your research and only invest what you're willing to lose.
Uniquely 5000 Cardano is better than 2000 Ripple. I think in a year's time the price for Cardano will grow several times.
Ripple is one of the first cryptocurrency in the world used by banks in transactions. It has a very large market capitalization, ranked third by coinmarketcap, just behind Bitcoin and Ethereum. I think the ripple is quite promising. However, ripple is not my priority. The ripple is managed by the company, and I do not trust the ripple. so I would choose Cardano. Cardano has a professional development team, it has overcome the weaknesses of other altcoin. I believe in the future Cardano will grow stronger and maybe it will beat the ripple.
I would choose 5000 cardano instead of 2000 ripple. Ripple has higher value than cardano so by not choosing Ripple, you are dumping that centralize coin. 
It seems to me better to invest in Cardano, but I think the best option is to divide the investment between these coins.
I would probably have invested in Cardano. I think this coin is more promising and will grow in price faster than Ripple.

Ripple slowly but surely dies. All signs that this coin will not survive until 2019. So it's better to invest in CARDANO, brother. If in doubt, look for more coins.

I think that Cardano has more perspective future. Ripple overvalued from my point of view. Cardano unique Blockchain with innovative solutions and it is not full correct to compare with Ripple.

Having Cardano is a better choice I think. Many do hate Ripple and it is overrated so I don't think it's a wise choice.
my advice for you, better now you invest to Ripple (XRP) token, Ripple have a good potential next month, I keep a lot of Ripple , I hold. if a trader, we must dare to take risks, I predict have a chance to succeed.

I don't like Ripple that much, but still this "coin" gave incredible returns to its early holders, and it could happen again.
Cardano is more technological coin, representing own blockchain, which has some major releases in 2018 according to their roadmap.
I would always go for Cardano. I am not a very big fan of Ripple and I am very uncomfortable about its association with the bankers. On top of that, I have a feeling that XRP is much over-priced right now. On the other hand, Cardano has a lot of future growth potential, as its technology is quite solid.
That ripple that cardano both have a sturdy construction, the only thing that sets them apart is the idea. ripple idea is more like me it will be used...I can't say that about cardano. 
Whenever a question like this arises I have always answered as dividing it in 50-50 but for this question I would suggest 75-25% towards Cardano, Both of them are having huge total supply so both are risky in my view.
The best option is to divide the investment between these coins. So you risk less.
