Both of them are good coins, Ripple already has its own mainnet and is already coin top 5. Cardano has a lot of potential, mainnet will soon be launched, I would suggest you save both, give your friends some parts of Ripple and Cardano coins.
I hold some ADA and my main concern is Charles Hoskinson visibility and mediatic exposure in the crypto world. When reading about BTC or Ripple I get the feeling that no individual has the authority to talk about the project as personal.
Cardano, since, you know, they actually provide some sort of solution atm. Cardano hopes to directly implement their currency in 3rd world countries, interconnecting their economies in the 1st world through a public accessible blockchain, which has access to Smart Contracts, Decentralized Exchanges, and much more.
I will invest in both Cardano now and Ripple if it pulls back or I hit a homerun in another trade.
I would suggest to give Ripple 2000 instead of Cardano 5000, because Ripple is unpredictable coin and very risky, wherein Cardano is one of the strongest Altcoin in the cryptocurrency market. It has strong project.

Much depends on whether your friend trades or not. He can just sell all the coins and get dollars. But if he or she trades I would rather give Ripple.

I don't know about this two coins, but on information that I read here on forum I would say that you should give him 2000 ripple. I think that ripple is good project and team doing a good work with developing in ripple coins, but only bad thing about ripple is that ripple have more circulating supply, so price won't be much higher then it was ATH last time.
I think that 5000 Cardano this would be the best birthday present! But I would have left it to myself, and you can give Ripple.
Ripple is developing day by day.Banks and many exchanges used in ripple technology ripple have many futures.Ripple can perform 1500 transaction in a second.Although Cardano scalability is better than Ripple.

If you choose between these coins, I would invest in Cardano. I believe more in this coin than in Ripple.
Ripple has higher value than cardano so by not choosing Ripple, you are dumping that centralize coin.

I think the best option is to invest in both coins. I think this is less risky than investing in just one coin.

Ripple has no future it hasn't been getting high for a couple of months i will put my investment on cardano if i where you. because cardano has some promising future.
