If I am not mistaken it is the last year of Westbrooks contract, and they have only Lebron and AD for more than just one year, that means they are going to actually drop to a very very low salary levels, and they will have open books for anyone.
Lebron signed a two-year extension with a player option the last year. AD has a contract until 2025 with an early termination on the last year. So the Lakers still have these two-giant contracts for two years. They will be able to open $47 million when Westbrooks's contract end. I do not know if that will be enough to get what they need to surround AD and Lebron with the cast they need to get a championship. They have no other asset they can use to trade. They have no first picks to use for trading.
Good contenders in the West now IMO are the following teams.
1-Nuggets
2-Dallas
3-LA Clippers
Those 3 hot teams are capable of moving forward and bring good competitions with other playoff contenders from the West. Maybe we can also add NOP, Memphis and the Suns.
All are good at adjusting and with a healthy squad, we can count them through the competitions with the
rising stars are really tough from the west side, it will be good for the fans to see more competitive squad
in bringing entertaining playoff series.
I am still not considering NOP as a contender this season. They are still very young and inexperienced. Though they are at the top of the rankings right now, it is just the regular season. It will be different when playoffs begin. Also, I only consider the Clippers a contender if Kawhi will be able to remain healthy in the playoffs. Otherwise, they are good for the second round. And even though GSW looks bad right now, I still consider them a contender. They are a different beast in the playoffs.
